6 in a row at home not 8. 2 were in QLD.
8 wins in a row from 8 games at home with a half capacity crowd cheering them on , versing a team that can't leave a hotel room every week
Id say yes they are. Wins have mostly been on the back of 1 or 2 players having big games rather then an even spread.

They are definetly not travelling as well as there supporters think or the way gerard healy talks them up , is he married? His wife probably wishes he got as excited arpund her as he did commentating an eagles game .

Even the pies game we were 4 goals down.

Weve been winning but barely getting out of 3rd gear.

Good signs but frustrating too.

Hopefully we go mental in the next 2 months and win every game by 100.

Not a good sign - we need to have a look at % & be top 2. Who knows what opportunity that might provide.

The guys coming through are the good sign, Rotham, Brander are a couple with a question mark pre season.

Dry track bullies might be more appropriate.

West Coast have two ways of winning games, both of which work much better in fine weather.

Firstly there are bursts when Naitanui is in control in the centre. This results in clean ball to midfielders and quick good forward entries to Kennedy/Darling one out due to the 6-6-6 rule. As an opposition coach of course you'd prefer they are trying to spot them up with a wet ball, because in good conditions there's really nothing the defenders can do .

Secondly most games have periods where midfielders start to tire and the game degenerates into long kicks forward at either end. West Coast dominate those parts of the game because of their contested marking ability. To take advantage of that, west coast regularly select teams which are extraordinarily top heavy on paper, yesterday they had 8 players over 190 including three genuine talls at either end, a 195cm wingman- and most of their midsized backs and forwards do their best work overhead.

The side effect of all that height and that style is of course they are outmatched in wet games where the ball is hard to mark and precision entries are a struggle.

People can say why not pick a team for wet or greasy weather but the eagles have spent their salary cap and draft picks going big, and their selection options are limited by the list decisions they've made. At the end of the day they play half their games in a sunny state and the weather usually fines up everywhere by the business end of the season, so it is not a bad choice of strategy.

That's fair, if the Eagles play in a rainpoor final it brings them right back to the pack with their strengths taken away.

Back to old ways? Or are the tigers just far better than them?
For ages all we have heard is that we werent better than them at any time these last few years, because we only ever beat the eagles at the G and that they would beat us anywhere else because they beat us in perth.

Now we have had a game at a neutral venue to settle the argument.

After the sooking when they were in the hub at the start of the season, it's not great putting a performance like that first game outside of WA. How many weeks have Vic teams been away from home now?

The difference is that unlike West Coast, Richmond can actually beat decent sides away

WC won a flag beating all of the top 4, undefeated in Melbourne and a record away from Perth of 8-3

Richmond won a flag 12-2 at the MCG and 0-3 against the other top 4 sides away from Melbourne then playing home finals against all 3 of them, earning just the one.

Nothing comparison.
