Are there any disadvantages to batting out of your crease to fast bowlers?

I can't think of any.

You take LBW out of the equation.

Sure if the bowler is bowling 160ks it might be an issue.

But other than that, are there any disadvantages?

If not, why don't ALL batsman do it ALL the time to fast bowlers?

Makes the short ball more deadly, and it gives you less time to pick up the ball. It essentially gives the bowler an extra couple of km/h.

Also, if you forget you're doing it and so don't touch your bat in every ball, and the keeper is awake, you could get opportunistically stumped.

You could always get stumped on the leg side if you lose your balance trying to whip one off your pads.

Deano used to vary where he stood to mess up the line of the bowler.

Used to vary it by a couple of feet.

Then again he was good enough to carry it.

Was messed up by Hadlee and Ambrose, but then again those two messed up Australia and more than a few batsman in their careers.

If not for the rumoured wandering pants and big mouth, would have played a 100 tests for australia, certainly better than many who came after.

Averaged 45 against some of the best there ever was.

Someone of his talent would smash up the rubbish served in international cricket now.

Deano was batting well outside his ground against SA in a shield game once. As the bowler ran in, the keeper went back and David Hookes walked in front of the keeper. The bowler bowled it wide so Jones would miss it, Hookes took it and threw the wicket down, running Jones out.

There are advantages and disadvantages in every tactic.

of course.

That said, deano was an outstanding batsman, and I'm fairly sure there are now rules to prevent fielders changing position once the bowler starts his run up.

wasn't there a change in the rules after the brits did some dodgy movements about 5 or 6 years ago moving fielders across rather than moving in?

Happy to be corrected on that.

the point remains that Deano did very well throwing bowlers off their line by varying his position from about a foot in front of the crease to a couple of inches behind.
