Extremely boring final.

I reckon since 2000 there's been about 1 interesting womens final. waste of money always lop sided boring match with no new champions.
2002 (or maybe 1) hingis capriati final was a good one and thats about it. As for pre 2000 i can't really remember many of them as im not old enough.

and I'm a girl who plays tennis but find mens tennis way more interesting.

You reckon?

But it's completely stupid, how can someone as dominant as Federer be in danger of losing his #1 ranking?

definetly, nadals moved a hell of alot closer now. i may be wrong but i think federer has lost 550 points, nadals gained 200 so the difference is now 650 points, when prior to the aus open it was 1400 points :thumbsu:

i love it in the womens game how henin loosing in the quarters has actually made her more further away from every1 else :thumbsu:

Absolutely, its like 1 masters series win away for Rafael now.Remember Federer has heaps of points to defend, even on clay...where he won the Masters tournament beating Rafa.If Rafa wins that tournament beating federer on clay, he will only be 300 points behind, which means a masters series finals appearance.

Roger had two early-round losses to Canas in the two American tournaments coming up, surely he'll re-gain points there. Can't see Nadal getting past Roger in the rankings this year, Novak might though.

Agreed. The ATP rankings should be over a two year period. That would be a simple solution.

Nothing against Nadal, but no way should he have been a chance to be #1 just because Fed didn't make the semis.

For 2006-2007:
- Federer: 6 grand slam wins, 2 finals, 2 Masters Cup wins, 6 Masters Series wins, 5 finals
- Nadal: 2 grand slam wins, 2 finals, 2 Masters Cup semis, 5 Masters Series win, 2 finals

depends on rogers clay form this year, he is defending 1 slam final, 1 masters series finals and 1 masters series clay champions this year..surely thats 1,800 points right there and if Djokovic overtakes rafa in the rankings and rafa is seeded 3 and meets federer in semis on clay, he might lose a huge chunk there.

Not sure if he will play Dubai this year, interesting he is also defending 300 there. With Rafa playing dubai this year and if he wins it he will only be 50 points away from Federer.

http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/news/match_reports/2008-01-26/200801261201341748343.html

Australian 15-year-old Bernard Tomic became the youngest boys' grand slam champion in tennis history when he won the Australian Open junior final in Rod Laver Arena.

The Queensland wonderboy showed he has the grit to match his talent, coming back from a set and a break down to defeat Taiwan's big-serving Tsung-Hua Yang 5-7 7-6 (7-5) 6-0 in the final.

After a tough fit to level at one set all, Tomic turned on an exhibition to take the final set in just 21 minutes, giving up just seven points along the way.

It was the second successive year an Australian has won the event, following West Australian Brydan Klein's victory last year.

Tomic, who turned 15 in October, became the youngest boy to win a grand slam event by two months, breaking the record held by American Donald Young, who won the Australian Open boys' singles in 2005.

Previously, the youngest Australian to have won a grand slam event was Ken Rosewall, who won the Australian Open juniors as a 15-year-old in 1950.

Rosewall won the men's event three years later, the first of four Australian Open titles spanning 19 years.

tsonga will move up to 10 or 11 if he wins today. it's great to see that the hack davadenko will be out of number 4 in a couple of weeks :thumbsu:

I thought someone said in another thread that he'd now be ranked 8 if he won and 18 if he lost?

lol its extremly complex. gonzalex will fall out of the top 10, so will nalbandian. ohh lol he will be number 9, because youzahny will move into 8 after making the quarters, tsonga (if he wins) will be 9. :thumbsu:
