What a disrespectful POS he is. I don’t get it. She is just doing her job. Just like he is supposed to be doing his.

You can’t be disrespecting, intimidating or bullying people in their work place like Bailey just did. But yeah sure, no problem here says the AFL.

Exactly. A POS. It’s only a matter of time before the Geelong people realise it.

Does this mean we can add it to all the other conspiracies of why Geelong is currently rorting the system?

They probably already do. There will be a point of time though where his output on the field isn't worth putting up with the rest of it.

Someone mentioned Aker previously in this thread and that is good example.

Some of you are really overthinking this. Bailey is a simpleton. And a total w@nker. Engaging his brain is simply not an option for him. Same as when he’s out having a few beers and his mates hand him a bag. Simply can’t think through consequences. What u don’t know is whether he is dumb as dog sh1t or whether he’s a petulant little fck with no understanding of what is right or wrong.

Aker was 30 when he left Brisbane. If Smith stars in the same way then I'm sure we will happily let him spend his twilight years at the Doggies like Aker.

Bailey needs punishment not for the sake of the lady in question, the AFL or Australia.

He needs it for himself.
Noticed no one replied to this one. Am I wrong? Is Bailey going to improve his behaviour without any consequence being enforced? I’m not just talking about a suspension, but when the issue gets brushed aside publicly, it suggests to him and others that his behaviour is acceptable.

I’m surprised there were no consequences for him when Abbey Holmes interviewed him on field last week and he said he’ll probably just get on the piss during his break.

I think he has a screw loose.

I think the general response from most of us has been a strong acceptance that he’s a knob. There’s not a lot that I find especially likeable about him. He’s not the first cats player to fit that description - I loved Scarlett as a player but he was a dickhead. If I remember rightly Travis Varcoe was a bit of a dickhead very early on in his career and grew out of it, maybe Smith might, maybe he won’t. Ideally he won’t get the ‘you’re good so you can keep being one’ treatment and Dangerfield (yes people don’t like him but he’s not an actual dickhead) or someone else will tall him to wake up to himself

I don't know if suspending him is the right call or not, but there's no way we'd do it during a final. It's a dirty game like that sometimes. There's some serious overreacting and some brushing it off, which I'm guilty of myself, but it shouldn't be accepted the more i think about it, he needs to grow up, it's a team game, we don't need this, right now. If that was someone in my family treated like that I'd be pretty dirty.

I am not shocked that Geelong didn’t seek to punish him, but I am shocked that the AFL didn’t decide to step in and at least fine him. He flipped the bird (for like the 20th time) to someone doing their job and this time it was ignored. Lachie Neale literally just copped a fine for it. Not to mention losing the plot and hurling abuse.

I think the AFL know he’s winning the Brownlow and don’t want to bring the result into dispute.

Be interesting to know what else has been brushed under the rug, considering the CEO of the AFL felt compelled to drive to his house to give him a pep talk.
💯
He’s what ,the AFLs most followed player (instagram) isn’t he?

Got a bit of the buddy’s around smiths antics about it.
-The AFL love their hero’s and will do ANYTHING to keep them as such

That said buddy genuinely seems like a decent bloke who enjoyed himself off the field but always shunned the spotlight
Smiff seems to enjoy the limelight both on and off the field

Do people genuinely believe he was spoken to because they thought his ‘nose beers’ comment was serious and he’s still on the gear as opposed to a ‘wake up to yourself’ chat from the AFL

Probably deserves to be dropped for the prelim final because of it. My feelings may change on that though at around 10.15 on Friday night
Just thinking about this again, he absolutely deserves to miss the prelim for this

Some people just like being a bit of a dick. They think it gives their personality an edge.

It’s an open training session, he knows that. He could have got treatment in the rooms, but chose not to. He knows that.

If he didn’t look like some Byron Bay surf model, no one would give his antics a second glance. He loves the attention.

He is not the first and won’t be the last nobhead to play footy

Probably the best comment in this thread.

Bailey is vapid. And I don’t think he thinks more than a second ahead. Together with zero impulse control, it’s a winning combination.

Was it anything homophobic, racist, Islamaphobic or Anti-Semetic??
If it was just threatening her and making her feel unsafe for just doing her job then probably nothing to see here.
If it was anything from the top line though then look out, this will be a 100 page thread in no time.
So many couldn't see i was being sarcastic but the irony is the people in charge of running this competition/game/sport or whatever it is meant to be deemed there actually was nothing to see here !?!?

What worm mate? We are in a preliminary final, smith is an all Australian and coach’s association MVP and he’s just had a run in with a photographer that will probably get handled via a fine and someone at the club telling him to get his act together.

He hasn’t brought the club to its knees.

While he was at the Bulldogs, I can only remember Smith reacting once to an over the fence remark, and that was during a Collingwood game, not long after the bag of coke photograph came out. It also put him off his game.
Smith got a lot of support from our club, including our psychologist who is often mentioned by our players as being the reason their problems or situation turns around, there would have also been other supports in place as well, and we were hearing leaks before he was traded that he was high maintenance and players and staff were getting sick of it. The tantrum over channel 7 filming him at our training camp, as told by Watson, a case in point.

Since going to Geelong, his behaviour has become more erratic and aggressive. To carry on like that, not at a game, but at an open training day, is inexcusable. I don’t know if the Geelong Lasse faire approach to the players suits a player like Smith. It would suit an older player with a partner and family, but leaving him to his own devices as long as he delivers on field, seems negligent as an employer to me.

His behaviour before our game, talking to himself, punching himself in the head, really concerned me, and obviously our players knew what a fragile state he is in because they didn’t target him and ignored his behaviour.

I don’t like Geelong admittedly, but I would hate to see this situation deteriorate further, we have seen too many players having their lives permanently harmed because no one intervened.

Good post. Every club has them and all supporters look past them as they are their dickheads. Some are more than others…and Bailey is elite.

On Scarlett, was he a dickhead? I knew he was direct but I never saw him as a dickhead.

What did the Cats admin do when Stengel did what he did? I can’t remember.

Not that I’m calling for Smith to be suspended. Someone needs to slap him silly to see if they can smack some sense into him. But the AFL has no role in the reporter incident.

Just thinking around the comment above re “laissez faire approach” the Cats apply not suiting him. It obviously works across almost all the squad. And sure they play up occasionally…everyone does (except for Cotchin 👍). But they quickly pull them back into line. Hence the Stengel question.

Smith is a repeat offender though and whilst each on their own is minor’ish (except for the actual drug taking), the sum of them all is starting to be a lot bigger.
