Well my background is Italian and after still partying from the 2006 world cup, I realised italians have had some great footy players. So here is my team:

As Madonna said :Italians do it better:rolleyes:

Carrozzo Stephen Silvagni Cassisi

Licuria Prestigiacomo Camporeale

Dipper Ricciuto Peter Matera

Mercuri A Rocca Giansiracusa

Phil Matera Fevola Delulio

Rucks: Alessio Misti Deledio

Inter: Russo, Vince Cottogio, Saverio Rocca, Libaterore

PS KOUTA is half italian too (his mum), but cayse half greek no good!

I may have missed some great players, but this team would win most games they play.:thumbsu:

Nope your half right. He is half spanish & half Italian. I grew up with the guy I should know!
Ok thanks for that, but my presumption was that we were referring to surnames. I don't know how many of the other players listed have both parents of Italian heritage . Licuria is a Spanish name, I believe.

Care factor.... zero. :p

I am waiting for the Illegitimate team of the century, the team of bastards!

Rigoni
Rischitelli
Marchesani
Foschini

can someone detail Nick Dal Santo's background? The names a giveaway but is it both parents or just the old man?

I like to think of us as the soccer champions.

Think about it, Italy beat every other side fairly(ish). They had to blatantly cheat to beat us.

Australia could not even beat Italy with the Italians playing with only 10 men on their side,

Back to the footy:

B: Vin Catoggio, Stephen Silvagni, Scott Camporeale

HB: Joe Misiti, Laurie Serafini, Gavin Crosisca

C: Robert DiPierdomenico, Ian Stewart, Peter Matera

HF: Phil Matera, A Rocca, Silvio Foschini

FF: Ron Barassi Jr, Sav Rocca, Mark Ricciuto

Rucks: Steve Alessio, Sergio Silvagni, Tony Liberatore

Interchange:

Brendan Fevola (should be a certainty if he can maintain his form), Peter Russo, Renato Serafini and Mark Mercuri

Hopefully, Dal Santo and Rischitelli can make this team in a few years. Ian Stewart's dad is Italian but Ian's mother's surname is Stewart.

Italy played by the rules and are crowned the worlds BEST.
Apart from when that bloke was in the box in the last minute against Australia and tripped as though he'd been shot multiple times in the calf, yes.

If you get tripped as your body momentum is going forward, where do you expect to land! on your feet.get over it , Aussies will learn from the experience , and hopefully go further next World cup.

Fabio Grosso. He's actually not that type of player but that one moment near the end of the match will always convince Aussie fans that he dived and he will always be a diver. Many people will forget or even attempt to learn that he is a fine player who isn't temperamental and he is actually known to be a quiet person. A moment like that changes reputations though.

As for Italy's performance at the World Cup, the Azzurri aren't known for thumping teams. Usually, Italy will always do enough to win. For instance, Spain went out to thump Ukraine 4-0. When Italy faced Ukraine, the Italians won 3-0 with 2-0 minutes left. When Italy does play an attacking game, the Azzurri won't try to thump you 6-0 or 7-0. If the margin's sufficient, they sit back and defend or slow the pace down. Italy had control of the Ukraine match and it wasn't necessary to do what Argentina did to Serbia and Montenegro. Against Australia, the Aussies did dominate possession and they did have the fitness and stamina but they lacked a quality finisher. Guus didn't put on Aloisi earlier enough (he also mistimed a bicycle kick) and let's face it, Viduka is the most overrated striker in the world. He did well in a holding role but his finishing was very poor. Chipperfield had Australia's best chances and he's a left wing-back. Italy's greatest striker, Luigi Riva, even said that after watching the match, what the Aussies lacked was a world-class striker.
