With rumours circulating that Chocco and Wocca are good as gone I am acutely interested in who the RFC would replace them with. I always think how Bomber Thompson turned us down because of our basket case status. We are in the strongest position we have ever been in and can attract some primo coaching talent to the club. I thought it's time for a dedicated post to write down our wish list of possible replacements

Knighta is on top of mine and I also like the idea of Ling. I think that the Gold Coast development coaches would be worth a crack also, although I doubt they would move out of QLD.

I'm not that cluey when it comes to coaches so I'm keen to hear others suggestions

Fire away!

Also, I know other threads are going about this issue but I'm more interested in replacements (because it is looking pretty likely they will go). I thought that this will merit its own thread eventually and didn't want to take the other threads off topic :)

If Choco goes, I'd like to see RFC chase Jared Crouch from Sydney or Simon Lloyd from Freo to replace him, but I imagine it would be tough to shake them loose to do the same job at a different club.

Tim Clarke seems to be doing a great job at Coburg, judging by the quality of the cameos we've seen from Dea, Astbury, White etc. but not sure if he would be in the running or stay as VFL coach next year.

No idea who whould be a good opposition analyst to replace Campbell though???

Would be happy to see a new ruck coach as I'm not a fan of Blade.

Comedy Laidley option?

Says on wikipedia Brian Royal's nickname is Choco. How can you have two chocos running around in one club? AFL needs to step in and put a stop to this. 2 Chocos yelling at players on game day could get confusing, they might crap their pants and completely forget the game plan.

As far as I am aware Campbell is opposition analyst.
Maybe Dean Laidley then? Pretty sure he's a very good tactician. Not so great people skills. No idea what he's doing these days though?

Not sure how much people skills affect being an oppo analyst.

We should seriously look into Worsfold for one of the assistant coach roles. Opposition Analyst would be perfect for him. Would already know the ins and outs of most sides. Choco can stick around as youth development, and Wok can try his luck at the Dogs.

All aboard the Worsfold train.

I don't even know what Campbell does. :p

Knights for Chocco's spot would be nice.

Campbell spent several years as an assistant at Whitten Oval, and now splits his time between the Tigers' leadership program, opposition analysis, and work with the VFL team.

As for changes i would love to bring Knighta back. I would definitely look at Neeld as a new midfield coach.

I know Adam Simpson at Hawthorn has a big reputation and Richardson who is now at port (i think) has always had a great reputation but never seemed to make that final step to being a senior coach, but he has been at Collingwood, Carlton and Essendon from memory, and as we poach everyone from Port he should be high on the list.

If Leppa was to leave as well i'd love us to look at Matty Scarlett, Lingy is in the media now and i can't really think of anyone who has gone back to assistant coaching from the media?? What about Chapman if he retires come the end of this season?

I'm happy with that. Is Worsfold keen to a) be an assistant and b) move to Victoria.

More Geelong people the better. Richardson would be a good get but he only just went to Port. Money talks though.

Campbell has already done time with bulldogs, why go back?

If chocco goes (his odds have shortened) I'd prefer knights over word fold but wouldn't complain getting worsfold. I think knights is a bigger chance for us.

Then again, I've always thought having knights as our stand alone VFL coach would be very good, so maybe we can have both at the end of the day!

This is an interesting article on a coaching course that's starting to spring up for current players. Interesting that its taken this long for these to exist in the AFL, seems for years soccer coaches have been doing UEFA C, B, and A licenses.

The guy mentioned in this article that i'd love to get to Tigerland is Lenny Hayes

No idea on both counts, I'm just saying that he would be the perfect man to have in the coaching team.

Different roles that Knights and Worsfold would be suited to. Knights would be the Williams replacement.

I like Alan Richardson in a development role , I was actually very keen for him to be appointed coach when Dimma was appointed , he has a remarkable ability to develop players .
Richardson is actually the one I would most fear as being able to lead Melbourne out of the shit fight they are in .
I believe by far our biggest concern should be the bond Choco and Dustin may have built up and would it see a un signed Dustin follow Choco ?

Would be over the moon if we got Scarlett in board but hate to see Leppa go. Cam Mooney would be another great get. Surprised me how switched on he is but hard to see him drop his media work.

No chance. He knocked back a 100% payrise from a club with a gold wrapped future. No way he would flush his career down the MFC toilet.

If Choco was moving over to a top 8 club, maybe. MAYBE. But Dusty to Melbourne? Nothing to be concerned about IMO.

As far as suitable replacements for Choco, Knights and Ling would be top of the list- are they available? A successful coach from a top 4 club with a winning culture would be a pre-requisite I'd like to see.

Neeld & Knights for mine are the 2 we should be going after. Knights as the VFL coach and Neeld as replacement for Choco. With Clarke I would move him into Campbells role.

Will Mick Malthouse still be at Carlton by the end of the year when they miss finals?
