Couple of left field options. First one, possibly not as a direct replacement for either of the two we'll potentially lose, but what about Ricky Ponting in some sort of role (part time, I'd imagine). Not a football person, but an accomplished elite sportsman with great experience and a leader.

And a little less left field, Jono Brown as a forward coach - apparently there is rumors linking him to this sort of role at the Pies next season. Would love to beat them to the punch! Simon Black maybe another?

And if Leppa leaves, a few have mentioned Scarlett. I've heard he's a pretty strange and reclusive fella, and kept to himself a fair bit. Not sure he'd translate to a great coach. But another who may be available (not playing on) is Darren Glass.

Again, I would love for us to chase Worsfold. Could be a chance to be a development role if he wants to walk away from West Coast.
Could be a chance as there is/was a rumour that he wants out of WA entirely account he and his Wife have split. The rumour was on facebook so i don't know how true it is.
I'd also throw up Gary Ayres name.Done great things at Port Melbourne as is a great developer of kids,Ideal replacement for Choco really.

Jade Rawlings could give some great stories about his time in coaching.

Richmond under Wallace and his own little foray.
Brisbane under crazy Vossys second and third year.
Melbourne under Neeld and I think Bailey. I think he was an assistant during the 186 game.

I wonder what his win/loss is as an assistant coach but then again Neeld had a good one while at Collingwood.

He's only served under Neeld at Melbourne. Came on board in 2012 I believe, same year as Neeld started.

Vlad the fat prick wants Roos so Roo$y it will be

I dont mind the sound of that, means we get to keep Chocco for a bit longer which can only be a good thing. The more time he can put into our development the more I like it :thumbsu:

Neeld & Knights for mine are the 2 we should be going after. Knights as the VFL coach and Neeld as replacement for Choco. With Clarke I would move him into Campbells role.
What n earth would we see in bringing neeld into the organisation, the way i say it, ea of the off field staff contribute to making quality decisions that combined take the club forward. Neeld proved he had very little to contribute in that regard when it was all said and done. Ill choose to ignore his CV where he had a gig with one of the premier clubs as that means little, its like attributing CBA multi billion profits to a bank teller, simply a bit part in the org

Maybe,Maybe Not.2 more jobs more than likely up for grabs at the end of the year,Wce & Bris although Scott Burns is almost 100% to takeover from Worsfold from what i hear.Would Chocco be interested him the Brissy job?

Not sure raw junior development and larger than life boundary coaching would be Neeld's go, RT, more a tactical man and a developer of partly mature, fully committed players, IMO.

On a different note, every time these discussions come up as to who will be senior coach or which assistant will move where, I am dismayed by the number of 'suitable' candidates.

The AFL is an enormous business whose present and future worth in so many ways hinges on the decisions which come from the coaching box of the 18 clubs, yet we blood and train so few coaches and provide virtually no career path into AFL coaching for anyone who exists outside the AFL environment.

Every kid over 12 who can kick a football will come under the scrutiny of AFL scouts, the next batch of umpires are in training, the next non-football playing media performers are in training, the next statisticians are in training, the next physios and doctors are in training, they will all get years of schooling and the best help available...isn't it time we asked; why do you have to play football for 'x' number of years to 'qualify' as a potential coach? Is a brief post-career apprenticeship an ideal background for senior coaching, or is a proper 'masters' or above over the best part of a decade, the best background into coaching? Where are our next generation of coaches coming from?

It clearly isn't going to be solely from the players, judging by the uptake numbers since the inception of a program designed specifically to put players into coaching roles.

It really should be the next feel-good story coming out of the AFL.

The league takes candidates from all regions, invites them to a draft camp with full testing and eventually, each club takes on a handful of outside the square, non-playing football brains as apprentice coaches. The AFL fund their existence at the various clubs. At worst, for no cost, clubs host the outside opinions of some good football brains and have the chance to influence their development. At best, we uncover one or a few people who are really capable of improving football.

The future direction of AFL clubs is guided to such a huge degree by such a small pool of potential coaching candidates, with such a narrow pool of entry into the available roles. It's not a healthy situation and I'm sure we could do far better.

Agreed. The days of 'Make the back pocket the reserves coach' have passed. We need to look at COACHES, conditioning staff. sports psychs - not just ex-players.

There was nothing wrong with Essendon were trying to achieve with Dank - they just went too far down the wrong path in the wrong way.

Comedy Laidley option?

Says on wikipedia Brian Royal's nickname is Choco. How can you have two chocos running around in one club? AFL needs to step in and put a stop to this. 2 Chocos yelling at players on game day could get confusing, they might crap their pants and completely forget the game plan.

We have 2x Mark Williams already running around. Add another Choco and Melbourne won't know who to poach.

Knights, Ling, Eade (if Choco gets the Melbourne gig) would all be guys I'd like to see at Punt Road in coaching capacities.

Could we perhaps get Dermott Brereton on as a replacement development coach if Chocco leaves?

Dimma + Dermott would be a bloody tough coaching combo. A bit of bad cop bad cop to continue to get that fighting spirit into our guys.

Ps Dermi is very eccentric at times and sometimes a bit stupid but he picks up a lot in the game that others miss. Take tonights AFL Teams for an example, picked up a little part of Rances game that he can work on and picks up things such as tactics to draw high tackles way earlier than most other media/coaching personnel.

Just a thought. I know he did some stuff with GWS for a bit. Could be good.
