Agreed. Mattner easily. Thompson is good, but Mattner's possibly the best tackler I've ever seen. Everything from his ability to chase players down to the way he makes his tackles stick and he rarely gives away a free kick with a poor tackle.

Thompson on the other hand just seems to tackle anyone and everyone, regardless of whether they have the ball or not. Once he's made up his mind to make the tackle he won't change his mind even if the player manages to get rid of the ball in the mean time. I'm not trying to be too critical, I like his style. But he's no Mattner.

Thompson doesn't chase down and tackle players charging through the midfield at full speed either. Many of Mattner's great tackles have been like that.

Absolutely love Mattner's tackles most of which cause turnovers. Thommo is great as well, only problem is he insists on hanging on too long and throwing them to the ground resulting in frees against.
I also noticed some very good tackles from Van Berlo and Knights on the week end.....good signs
