Player Sponsorship BigFooty Player Sponsorship Event - Trevor Barker Medal

Remove this Banner Ad

Gday all,
Due to our disappointing season, the date is already set for the Trevor Barker medal this year.

As always the sponsorship receives 2 tix to the event and it is usually popular so please reply if you are interested to go along and I will raffle the tix.

Event details as follows:

Date: Wednesday 19th Sept 7pm
Venue: Palladium @ Crown
Dress: Cocktail, evening wear.

I can also have additional tickets purchased, if you would like to sit with other BigFooty members for the event, if you dont get a gig as part of the player sponsorship. These are $250pp until Aug 31st, otherwise they are $300. So I will be doing the raffle by Aug 14th or something most likely.

Please Note: Getting in early that we need to get interest in the player sponsorship up for next year if we want to go ahead with it as this year we are about 9 shares short of the minimum required to cover the cost of the sponsorship so I had to front a little extra cashola than I wanted too.

I am keen to go as always, so will go in the raffle!

If you paid for the shares we were short then you should get one of the tickets, no question boydie. I doubt anyone would disagree.

Anymore takers for the raffle??

I will do the raffle in the next 48 hours

Appreciate the thought, if everyone agrees then I guess I am ok with it, but also happy to be in the raffle if the majority disagree

Well my suggestion got 6 likes!!
I think you deserve one. If you don’t feel comfortable with it then put my name in the draw as well and if it comes up it’s yours.....
( just letting you
Know that I’m not usually lucky with these type of things though )

gday all,
sorry I stuffed up RSVP dates and was a little later than I thought so haven't done the raffle until now!

Decided to put myself into the raffle (I had most shares so higher chance anyways) and pulled my name out 3 times hahaha so I am taking that.
The other name pulled out with the 4th attempt was goodie23
If your still keen mate your in, otherwise please let me know ASAP.

Is anyone interested in the $250pp discounted tix for us at all?
I can sort out with the club and try and get us all on the 1 table or at least the table next to each other.

Cheers

Early request for next year - Rowan Marshall. Get him and I’m in for 4 shares ;)
You want to put the BigFooty Saints curse onto 'the Project"?
Not sure we wanna risk it.
I'd prefer to put the curse on geary.
No guarantee we run the sponsorship next year based on how many shares were sold this year. Not sure I'll get approved off the good lady wife to chuck in the extra (although to be fair she doesn't know that actual amount! haha) to ensure we get over the line, seen as we will be building our house next year.

Few happy snaps so far

Okay, so the night as I remember it. The thread and live stream seem to have covered most of the stuff onstage so I'll mostly deal with the offstage.

So there was a VIP function beforehand which meant the plebs had to wait penned up like sheep at the top of the escalators while the players sucked down a few cold ones with those who shelled out some extra dough. I met up with Boydie and we waited without drink in hand and growing frustration. Finally they let us into the atrium where Boydie caught up with lots of people and I wandered somewhat aimlessly behind.

I did however pull the same stunt as last year, I speed read through the silent auction and saw the first three turned in sheets would get a bottle of wine. I popped down a minimum bid on an item I fancied and slipped it in the box.

The other fundraiser in the atrium was selling Dare iced coffee bottles at $50 a pop. 1 in 4 had a slip of paper denoting a prize inside them, didn't see many people buying them but the most visible prizes were definitely from Linen House as people wandered around with towels and boxes full of linen.

After meeting up with a few others we were urged into the auditorium where funnily enough I haven't been since the Saints gala ball in 2014. We sat at table 57, second back row in the centre. Boydie was on my right, a bloke in a loud shirt who introduced himself as "The Fish" was to my left. The Fish and I did not speak much during the night.

It wasn't long until entree was served up, listed on the menu below. Being a carnivore, I gave mine to Boydie.

Here's where the night gets a little bit hazy and jumbled due to a long (Wednes)day at work and a few frothies. Did manage to grab a few of the players for a pic and a chat with another BigFootyer (whose username I've forgotten, sorry!).

Benny Long: Just expressed some enthusiasm for how he's gone about the year. He was a bit embarrassed but nice about it.

Jack Steele: Talked about how his move to run-with helped his game. He sees it continuing into next year. Already eyeing off pre-season which starts in November!

Brandon White and our man Freezer: Clearly enjoy each other's company and a little bit of ribbing. White looking forward to continuing to grow, we talked a few highlights, one of which Freeze claimed White brings up on a fortnightly basis. Freeze is somewhat stuck in limbo and was non-committal about his future, it's a tough spot to be in. As a BigFooty sponsor, getting kind of used to that sort of awkward chat.

Billings (annoyingly the pic with him isn't on my phone!): Still hoping to move into the midfield next year, also taking on board more responsibility. He's come a long way from the shy young bloke I sat next to at the Gala Dinner (he kindly claimed to remember).

Young Jack Steven: Think he already had the award in the bag when we spoke. Just like onstage, did not sound like a man who's leaving.

More was said, and I'm sure through sheer weight of words some of it was worthwhile, but I don't remember at this time.

The mood of the room was interesting throughout the night. Richo received a mixed response, some cheered, there were a few stony faces while he was speaking. Summers spoke well, his crack about supporting our new pres but not in a Tony Abbott way was very well received. Plenty of kind words about Stevens, perhaps more so than Gilbo (although there were mutters when highlights in a Dogs jumper were shown, especially since one was against us). We had a very big Gilbo fan on the next table, if you heard whooping whenever Gilbo's name was mentioned that was him.

The atmosphere was a bit subdued, many comments expressing disappointment about the year on and off stage. There was determination in voices more than optimism but that can equally be put down to exhaustion and dealing with annoying fans. Eric Bana narrated the highlights package and whoever wrote the copy must've struggled to come up with optimistic phrases for that many losses.

The auction was as flat as the description in the main TBA thread. The Mercedes only just snuck into its reserve range and I'm not sure anything else got sold from the live auction.

There was love and hope in the room and not just for Gilbo from his biggest fan. Gresham, Steele and Roberton getting their awards allowed the crowd to show their appreciation, Steele placing third was also cause for excitement. Sebby Ross got a good reception for his second placing and Young Jack Steven got the wraps he deserved for this year when the blindingly obvious was announced.

The official part wrapped up at 11 and the crowd started to drift off. I departed at 11:15ish after Boydie and I failed to get a photo with the very fanciable Alicia Loxley. A good night, the mood understandably a bit flat but still a good night. And more expensive than planned, I bought the centrepiece from my table for $30 and thought I'd escaped a Saints function having spent the least ever (hey, I have a mortgage now). At the train platform I received two surprisingly pleasant yet annoying texts in a row. Boydie got a photo with Jane Bunn and I spent $500 on the silent auction item I'd put the minimum bid on...

Guess who's tossing the coin at a Saints game next year?

Howdy all,
Apologies for delay, took me a day or two to get over the hangover and then was away this weekend for the NBL Blitz in Ballarat.

Anyways, goodie23 covered most of the night pretty well
Highlight for me was photo with Jane Bunn who is a big Saints fan!
Had a few drinks in the casino along with what seemed like most of the playing list but didn't really want to annoy the players while they were enjoying themselves
