goodie23 update on this event just received.....

have an update for you regarding the long-awaited Player Sponsor Meet and Greet function. I was initially planning for Saturday 10th December however the new coaching staff have changed the pre-season training timetable and the players will be unavailable on that day now.

So, it’s most likely going to be on a Wednesday night in December probably around 5.30pm. This date should be confirmed by mid next week so we can finally put something in the calendar.

Once I get more details I will post but until then, anyone interested based on those details?

Hey Boydie

Thanks for all the management you do for us. Like a few on here I live interstate so can't make events so I put in to support our community on here. I'm more than happy to support the sponsorship again next year.

It looks like I'll be travelling down to Melbourne more often in 2023 so hopefully I can align my calendar to make one when it comes up.

Event report

Club said to rock up at 5:00, managed to get there about that time and score a park. The area was fairly busy, Sandy Dragons were training, think men's and women's. Waited in the atrium briefly and browsed the shop before being escorted into the gym that had been set up for the event. There were about 15-20 tables set up, some with lights with the Saints logo, some with food, some with both, some with nothing. A pair of stools at each table, plus a couple of serving stations on the left, one giving out soft drinks, the other food (party pies, burgers, sausages in bread).

Found sasaint, then encountered a wild boydie plus kosifantutti. We chatted a bit and not long afterwards the players filed in. There were a few scratches, no Kingy, Sharman, Byrnes, not sure who else was missing. Our boy Windy was there and we were able to have a chat with him. A common theme was the boys liking the coaching changes that have come through the club, Banger is still a machine, Lenny is respected and even BJ got a rap. Over the course managed to talk to a few boys, Windy, Owens, Keeler, McLennan, Bytel, Higgins, here are the highlights (other attendees, please feel free to correct).

Windy
  • Doing a business course, one unit at a time, not sure about his future on that front
  • Loving working with the new coaches
Owens
  • Heading back to Japan soon
  • Very enthusiastic about tackling, got a bit of a spray for demonstrating this enthusiasm on the track
  • Bounces off Windy well in conversation
Keeler
  • Big unit, left knee currently strapped
  • Found draft night a bit frustrating, expected to go higher, was excited when he found out the Saints had nabbed him
McLennan
  • Would like to shadow Wilkie, always played defence and figures The Accountant would be a great mentor
Bytel
  • Really likes the shake-up, feels pre-season is his best, heading away but will train with Willem Drew (Port) as there's a connection I can't remember
Higgins
  • Real character, just good for a chat, feeling good about next year
I'm sure the others can add more detail, truth be told I was quite distracted by the food.

Thanks again Boydie!

Goodie's report is spot on. I would add

Windy is looking cherry ripe. He will be a ripper this season and most of the players I spoke to pick him as having a huge year ahead. I also spoke with Jack Hayes who can't wait to get back on the ground. He is loving being at the Saints and as he said to me, it a whole lot better than being a concreter in Adelaide! I think he will continue to make an impact on the team as soon as he gets back as he sees himself as a senior (mature) player who can lead on field. Breifly spoke to Matthaes. He seems so young and his body is still that of a school kid. He expects to play early but for his sake I hope he spends most of the year in the gym. Oscar Adams was very happy with how he is progressing so I hope to see more of him in 2023.

Overall I was very happy to see how fit the senior players looked and how enthusiastic the younger players were. Bodes well for the next few years.

Once again a big thanks to Boydie for pulling the sponsorship together and I'm looking forward to participating again in 2023.

Go Saints.
