A good season from young Harry which saw him take on some of the big forwards of the game and winning a fair few contests for a skinny 20 year old. With Gov and Barrass spending a lot of time on the sidelines in 2021, Harry came in when he needed to and played his role. Statistically, his best game of the season came in Round 19 vs St Kilda where he racked up 16 disposals and 12 marks but the board will remember him fondly for his role in the passage of play that ended with JK kicking the winner vs Richmond in Round 13.

One of the few positives from our season was the form of Jamaine Jones (when he could actually get on the park, whether that being because of injury or being Simmo's favourite player to drop). The rookie listed player gave us much needed depth in the small forward department and looked lively, knew where the goals were and tackled strongly when he was given a decent run at it. His best return of 3 goals in Round 2 v the Dogs and 21 disposals in Round 7 vs Freo showed he has the ability to be a long term forward for us. Uncontracted for next season, however.

In his best season for us, still only managed 11 games despite being in the best 22 for the majority of the first half of the season. Coming in for Round 3 v Port, he held his spot all the way up until Round 11 vs Bombers after which he was injured and didn't return until Round 19 v St Kilda and then again in Round 23 v Brisbane. He scored votes in most of his early season games and seemed to be on track for a nice year before he was injured then seemingly banished. Highlights of his season included 21 touches, 6 marks and a goal against Port in Round 3 and 16 touches, 9 marks and 2 goals against Fremantle in Round 7. Out of contract this year and may look to return to Victoria for further opportunity.

Proving to be AFL quality this season, Snake put in some strong games in 2021. A victim of a forward line that boasts power talls such as Kennedy, Allen, Darling and often a resting ruck, Waterman at times struggled for continuity in his game as he was often squeezed out. However, with games such as 15 disposals and 3 goals vs Fremantle in Round 7, 17 disposals and 2 goals vs Adelaide in Round 9 and 22 disposals and 9 marks vs Collingwood in Round 20, he should be thereabouts the best 22 next season.

Hard to argue against the fact that Gov ultimately had a very poor season in 2021. Missing several games through injury and never really taking a game apart like he has shown he can summed up a disappointing campaign for the AA premiership VC. Statistically his best games probably games against St Kilda in Round 4 (22 disposals and 10 marks), Round 5 vs Collingwood (20 disposals and 5 marks) and Round 9 vs Adelaide (22 disposals and 10 marks) but he would want to put in a more consistent campaign in 2022 given the size of his contract. It came out at the end of the season that he was struggling with a hip complaint for a large portion of the season which could explain some of his poor form.

A good season from young Rothy who seemed to have cemented himself in the team and played the first 15 rounds before missing a couple to end the season. It's been said on this board that he needs to take the game on a bit more to really announce himself as a best 22 player so he should have an opportunity to do that in 2022 as he ended the year in the seniors. Games such as Round 5 vs Collingwood (23 disposals and 15 marks) and Round 9 vs Adelaide (24 disposals and 10 marks) show that he has the tools to be a first choice defender.

A pretty strong season from Cole which saw the small defender play every game. Firmly entrenched in the 22, Cole put up some encouraging numbers this year such as a 22 disposal 8 mark game against Gold Coast in Round 1. Had a nice patch towards the end of the season too where he polled votes in every game from Round 18-22.

Witherden struggled to consistently play for the seniors in his debut season in blue and gold but when he did play he usually managed some strong numbers. A renowned kick of the footy, Witherden usually took kick in duties and often hit risky shots and should hopefully add a different element to the backline in 2022. Some of his season highlights include Round 5 vs Collingwood (30 disposals, 9 marks and 4 tackles), Round 9 vs Adelaide (30 disposals, 12 marks) and Round 22 vs Fremantle (25 disposals, 6 marks and a goal).

Ultimately a disappointing 2021 for Liam Ryan when compared to his AA 2020 campaign and he never really got going as he never managed to string more than 4 games together. Still managing to kick 24 goals is not a terrible return from him given his lack of continuity but he would hope to get a better run at it next season to get back to his best. Ryan is our first player to be awarded BOG honours and did so in Round 12 vs Carlton where he recorded 4.64 votes from 17 disposals, 9 marks and 4 goals. He only went goalless in 2 games this season and had at least 3 goals on 4 occasions. Ryan was our biggest negative mover this year, coming from a 2nd place finish in 2020 to 17th in 2021.

Apart from some fitness issues, I think a lack of effort was a big factor in Ryan's slide this year.
He threw himself into more contests and was more active around the ground in 2020, and that was the reason for his massive improvement. I'm not sure if the shorter games and shorter season had anything to do with it
Hoping he shows more of it next year, and most years after that.
