As another exhilarating season for West Coast draws to a close, I am once again with you to count down the top Eagles of 2023 as chosen by you. This year is a little different however as it is my last year managing the joyous task of having to relive all our 100 drubbings at the end of every season.

That honour falls to Bender_ for season 2024 (and beyond if he can be bothered) who has bravely volunteered to keep this tradition going. Three cheers for Bender_

As for the count - we are blessed to exist in a period that is probably West Coast's worst ever but we still had a few dominant individual performances throughout the season which we are here to celebrate.

Tom Barrass is the reigning champion having won it from Tim Kelly and Shannon Hurn in 2022. I have a few rounds left to tally but go nuts with some predictions below. Or don't - I don't care, I'm retiring .

3 cheers for Squashie for doing this for so long.
And 3 cheers for Bender for taking it on for at least one year.

Did I miss any?

Thanks squashface

You are the best!

Did I miss any rounds?

I will try and check myself but if you notice any could you let me know please.
You missed Round 6 v Port

3 cheers for Squashie for doing this for so long.

You voted in every round

1. Kelly
2. Allen
3. Bailey

Slim pickings after that.

4. Hunt
5. Duggan

Ummm

6. SPS (I vaguely remember him having a handful of decent games in a row, or was that last year. The awfulness is blending together.)
7. Ginbey
8. Jones
9. Witherden
10. Hurn

But I'm really guessing at who was slightly better than the worst at that point...

You missed Round 7 v Carlton, Round 17 v Brisbane, Round 18 v Richmond, Round 19 v Carlton, Round 21 v Essendon, Round 22 v Freo, Round 23 v Dogs and Round 24 v Adelaide

I missed heaps this year. Too many games where the only person I felt deserved a vote was tim Kelly followed by the 4 worst performers of the opposition team.

Just FYI, next season there'll be no wiping your arse for you campaigners. You miss a round and you're ****ed as far as I'm concerned.

There's a new sheriff in town and it ain't Reggie Hammond.

Before we get underway tomorrow - here are the listed players who didn't manage an AFL game in 2023.

It was another year of accessing most of our list where we only had five players not play a game this year which is the same as last year.

#9 Nic Naitanui
The retiring great. Naitanui was plagued by achillies problems from the preseason which ultimately saw his season being canned around halfway through the year. A generational player who changed the way that the ruck was played, Nic retires a 3-time All Australian, 2-time John Worsfold medalist, WCE Life Member, and 2-time BF WCE POTY. Congrats on the career, Nic - we miss you already.

#22 Isiah Winder
After managing 6 games in 2022, Winder was unable to add to his tally in 2023. Injured for most of the season and only playing 6 games in the WAFL, his form at that level was strong however where he averaged 24 disposals. He was delisted and redrafted as a rookie last year on a one year deal so he remains uncontracted for 2024.

#38 Jordyn Baker
Baker is a Category B Rookie Listed player who is in his first season with the club. He showed signs in the WAFL where he played 10 games and averaged 16 disposals per game. Is probably a fair way off but has time on his side.

#43 Tyrell Dewar
Our next Category B Rookie Listed player, Dewar also didn't appear at AFL level in 2023 but did feature as an emergency. He's a natural and classy forward who has some traits that hopefully project him into being a quality AFL player. He played 10 WAFL games where he averaged 10 disposals and kicked 6 goals.

#45 Coby Burgiel
An injury plagued first season for Burgiel which saw it ended prematurely with hamstring surgery. The number 29 pick in the 2022 AFL Draft only managed 3 games at WAFL level this year where he looked classy and versatile and averaged 20 disposals. Hopefully he gets a better run at it in 2024 because he seems to have a bit to work with.

First up we have the players who played but failed to poll a vote

Limited opportunities for Trew in 2023 who spent most of the year in the WAFL (where he showed form good enough to finish second in the BnF). He finally recorded his first win of his career in Round 23 v the Bulldogs where he came on as the sub and kicked a goal. Is currently uncontracted for season 2024.

During our injury crisis in season 2023, the first year ruckman made a surprise debut in Round 16 v St Kilda as the sub. He recorded 2 disposals, 1 hitout and 1 tackle but was clearly not ready for AFL footy. Has time on his side so will hopefully get a better crack at it next year and beyond.

#34 Jack Williams

John Worsfold Medal placing: 36th (5 votes)

I'll preface this with the note that it is entirely possible that someone did give votes to Jack Williams in any of his 10 games but as many would just give votes to "Williams" I would count those as Bailey votes given that Jack didn't have any standout games. So if you are reading this and are thinking "hey I gave votes to Jack" then I say to you - too bad, be clearer with your voting when we have guys with the same last name. Lord help you Bender_ next season if both Bailey and Jack have good years.

Anyway - Williams had a far improved year in 2023 where he played 10 games and seemed to be the preferred second ruck in the side. He averaged 6.9 disposals, 3.2 hitouts per game and kicked 5 goals across those 10 games. Williams will be looking to add a bit more size and hopefully continue his upwards trajectory in 2024.

#42 Harry Edwards

A forgettable year for Hedwards who had pretty much his entire season wiped by injury which saw him only manage 2 games in Rounds 9 and 10. Contracted for 2024 so hopefully gets a better run at it as he has had some decent games in the past

Playing a lot more consecutive games than I remembered, the mature aged midfielder didn't rack up amazing numbers this year but seemed serviceable as depth in an injury ravaged year. His best game statistically probably came in Round 6 v Port Adelaide where he recorded 19 disposals with 5 tackles. Out of contract at the end of 2023.

Never really got going in season 2023 where he only played 4 games in a year plagued by injury and form. Jack Williams seemed to overtake him as the preferred second ruck but Jamieson still recorded his highest disposal count of his career this year where he tallied 17 disposals in Round 12 v Collingwood. Contracted until 2025.

A tough year for the developing key defender who featured as the sub twice as well as being subbed off once. Didn't get much continuity in his game in season 2023 but had a few decent showings where he recorded early-teens disposal counts. Statistically, his best game was probably in Round 12 v Collingwood where he recorded 13 disposals and 3 marks which is also the only game he polled votes in.
