Not talking trading just drafting where other then the very beginning we have been very good big my biggest blunder is this.

Pick 5: Leigh Brown over Darren Glass.

Missed the boat here IMO, had the right idea with the two bookends. CHF/FF and CHB/FB in the draft just we took the wrong guy. Should have gone with the local without doubt. And i know it was a very close decision as well as i have read comments on this by Phil Smart. This IMO would solve one of our biggest problems.

i heard that smart wanted glass, but drum over-ruled and went for brown because he had a bigger body and would be ready to play

Is there any point to continually scrutinising past draft choices. Hindsight is a wonderful thing... This subject has been done to death lately.

I havent seen this particular selection discussed much at all.

It really doesn't matter now does it? It's the future draft picks that really count. Smart has probably been overruled too many times to count in the past.

Collard would be up there. Pick 31 in a very strong draft equates to a top 20 pick in many other years. For a pick that early to last less than 12 months on the list when we desperately need youth is disappointing.

It's just adding the pain to painful going over past blunders...

It's also forgetting that around that time we also drafted Haddrill through the rookie list who was better than Glass at one stage before his knees turned to liquid...

It just goes to show as well that the people who say Smart is an absolute dud don't know their arse from their face...

This one is made more costly by the fact we traded so heavily to get Tarrant.

We may have even gone for a Collard type coz we'd let go of Medhurst.

Should have targeted a midfielder or full back instead.

But its water under the bridge...

Especially when you look who went just afterards. We could of had Kurt Tippett who went next pick as the ruckman/forward to replace Jlo or Alwyn Davey or Bachar Houli.

He's still in denial over the fact that Leigh Brown is an absolute hack, i could hardly believe he critised Freo for trading him

riley dunn (great name, sounds like a hollywood movie star doesnt it? would have no problems with the ladies) wasnt one of fremantle's more memorable moves in recent history

other ones - the guy named warren, played one hell of a quarter against melbourne

Dunn was a two time u18 AA, hard as nails and highly rated. Geelong really wanted him. He was a good pick but just didn't turn out.

We were after Beau Waters (speaking of movie star name) but Dunn was too good to go past at the time.

Murphy instead of Chaplin in the same draft was a mistake though. Chaplin was highly rated but we went for Murphy (and all the reports said that he was a great athlete but was mentally weak i.e. head dropper).

Chaplin isn't flashy but is a solid kpp that you build a quality defense around (i.e. Bock type player).

Aaron Fiora ahead of oh wait... :D

In reality I think your biggest blunder was not sending Murphy in the opposite direction Tarrant came from. Once Tarrant arrived Murphy had no use and Cuddles should of seen this and acted accordingly

Deal for Croad is my biggest trade mistake.

We should have just taken McPharlin for nothing and hung onto pick 1 & 4.

Would be nice to have Hodge or Ball running around in the middle about now.

Problem is that due to our stupidity, if w had done that McPharlin would now be playing for someone else. We used (or should I say wee going to use) our preseason pick on Fabian Francis. Then due to salary cap issues we lost that pick.

You are dead right that it was a shocking trade though.

It could have been Ball, Hodge or Judd btw.

I left out Judd presuming that West Coast were always going to take him and we had committed to Polak before draft day.

But I agree, different people in charge of our club...We may have had Hodge and Judd running around together....
