The board think they have found a winner with Nick Austin.
They were extremely impressed throughout the interview process with his presentation and blew the other candidates out of the water.
Also loved his background having worked in recruitment and also list management. Very highly rated in the industry.

Just some further information into the Brandon Ellis fiasco, to clear up some truths.

- Carlton was very keen and made their intentions known that they wanted to bring Ellis across
- There was never an offer on the table from Carlton, it never got to that stage.
- Brandon and his management didn't come back asking for more money following the pursuit of Stephen Coniglio ending.
- The key reason why Carlton withdrew interest is because Jack Martin became gettable.
- There was disagreement with SOS who preferred Martin & Agresta/Lloyd/Liddle who wanted Ellis.
- Agresta camp felt Ellis was a better fit as he was available for $400-500k, wouldnt cost a draft pick, and you knew what you were getting as opposed to Martin who was going to cost more in both money and draft picks and was more on potential than actual performance.

Okay folks. Feast your eyes on this lot for some conversation points. Quite a few things we would have guessed ourselves, and a few other things we may not have.

Sent to me from someone who wishes to remain anonymous due to the board's liking for feasting on the corpse of rumour bringers. My words, not theirs.

I vouch for nothing but it's discussion worthy ... Just not in this thread you repeat offenders.

- Jack Martin absolutely loves everything about Carlton. Has never been happier in his football career. Says it is the best decision he has ever made.

- Stocker went home for personal reasons not disciplinary. Club is very excited about what he brings but are making him earn his spot.

- The Club will let Simmo decide if he wants to play on or not. They will not push him out.

- Eddie will retire if we get Papley. Will play on if we don't. Papley is still in play for us.

- Murphy and Kruezer will play next year.

- Ben Silvagni is seen as a slow burn. Could be something. Just needs time.

- Polson will play this year in the backline. Club is bullish that he has found his spot.

- Club still can't believe we got Kemp so late. Will be best 22 next season.

- Club thinks Josh Kelly is gettable. We will try to bring in more First Rounders via trade.

- Geelong has 3 Firsts which we are trying to get one. Paddy Dow's name has been thrown up with Marchbank. Constable involved as well.

- The other first rounder is GWS's which Adelaide have. If Adelaide get Pick 2 compo for Crouch then it is on the table.
The deal would involve Freo players from SA and SPS going home to WA.

- Other players that we have spoken to:
B McKay (Well Harry has)
B Crouch
T Viney
C Blakely
J Caldwell

Some contrasting conversation points from another shy ITK....

Expect Carlton to have quietest Trade period in years. Happy with list and what is developing. Papley deal on the table if Swans interested. Will make a play for Williams and maybe a talented youngster looking to come home but little else.

It appears the talented youngster may be referring to Caldwell based on Soapy's comments in another thread.

EDIT: Credit to Stamos for stumbling on this gem on the main board

Adam43 counts as an ITK, IMO...

Crouch at the right price is on our hit list. We won’t trigger band one compo to get him.

Jye is seen as a good get and very gettable. Lots of competition though.

Sorry forgot to add:

The club expects lists to be reduced from 46-40 next year & if this occurs, thinks the scratch matches will be the best option due to reduced list sizes.

If we go stand alone in the reserves the club will pay for top up players, last year teams spent between $400k - $1mill to operate their reserves sides.

Papley is hope more than anything as Swans want to much. Who knows. Saad haven’t heard anything at all. Personally doubt it. Names I’ve heard we are talking to are Williams Graham Wright Crouch Drew Caldwell McLean and another 1 or 2 other young interstate players. Have no idea how close

Personally think Williams is exactly what we need
