Free Agency Brad Crouch [joins St Kilda as a RFA for pick 23]

I reckon the Saints are bluffing. Crows will match and a trade will get done for pick 17. If Crouch is worth 600k a year, he's worth giving up pick 17 for.

If the Saints flat out refuse to trade for him, it would be a good way of ensuring that no restricted free agent ever signs for them again.
You think the AFC behaving like dix is gonna make StKilda look bad??
Reality check bro.

If they weren't eligible for a top pick there'd be no kerfuffle.
Brouch ain't worth a band 1 compo in any universe, and wanting it to be the case don't make it so.

Watch the Filth get 2 first round picks for Treloar...... Never. Same sh1t..

The whole point of approaching free agents is to get them for free.
If Saints are using pick 15 there are three midfielders reportedly available at one club who are arguably all better players.
Whether Crouch is worth pick 17 is irrelevant.

And the AFL. Surely the only thing which should matter is the total of the contract. Not the age of the player. Or the other mystery meat elements.
Nothing matters more than public perception.
The AFC got too desperate for pick 2 and completely screwed the pooch in the media. After that there was no other option for under the table negotiations.

For sure. The AFL had to come down hard on the proposed manipulation.

But average per year is a terrible measure.

2 x $800k is not better than 6 x $600k.

Would you ever want to live in Adelaide? LoL
Dan Andrews said something similar... & look how that has turned out.

I bet you don't know much about Adelaide at all...

Or Adelaide f’ed up and he wasnt interested in staying on $750 x 4 years.
It's no secret Brad wanted a 5th year & preference was to stay. Said as much in public many a time.

Sure

Sure, but the whole FA system is a disgrace.
There's guidelines but not rules. Everything is subject to AFL interpretation so they can manipulate the outcome.
If the AFC had been professional and STFU, there's every possibility they could have wound up with pick 2, but they put the AFL into a corner and after that there was only 1 outcome.

The NGA academies, MRP, Free agency, umpiring. It's a full on sh1t show, and it's not by accident..

Love the way the Saints played this. Simply wouldn't mortgage their future on a half decent mid. Played it smart. If they miss on him, it's not a big loss really. If they get him, it's on their terms.

Correct Tyler. It also sends a message to our young group that from now we will pay fairly, but not overpay anyone.

Great clubs like Brisbane, Geelong, Hawthorn and Richmond have done this during their Premiership eras in order to keep their teams together. We want to keep our lads together as they continue to improve.

Who knows, maybe the Crows won’t match our bid. Maybe they take pick 23 and move on. I really don’t know what they will do.

But I listened to Lethlean tonight and I firmly believe that if the Crows match our bid then we move on and that this won’t be a surprise to affected parties. Our interest in Brad was as a free agent, with the emphasis on the word FREE.

Saints intend to use our 1st round draft pick at the draft table this year for various reasons. We won’t be trading that away.

There's scuttlebutt around the Lions changed the offer for Daniher from 4 x 600 or thereabouts to 3 x 800 to trigger band 1. Saints could have done the same.

That would mean overpaying Crouch $200,000 per year. We have a whole list that we need to pay on merit. Saints may have paid $50,000 extra per year if it was guaranteed Ban1, but $200K per year is just crazy stuff.

You are also ignoring that Daniher is not going to play for free in his 4th year. Plus good big forwards earn more, and are harder to get. There are more mids about than key forwards and so Lions decided to stump up.

Daniher 3 x $800 = band 1
Crouch 4 x $600 = band 2

Maths isnt my thing but arent the totals equal ?

Yeah it's totally equal, I mean in 3 years time Daniher has made 600k more and body permitting can sign another contract.

You serious son? Do you work 20% more hours at work to get paid 20% less per hour and it's okay because it adds up? lmao

Does a $12 million over 4 years player in the NBA equal the same as a $10 million over 5 years? No because he takes up more salary and can make more money year 5.

Sorry, but this is dumb.

What it all really boils down to is this - What is Brad Crouch worth

Based on what he has delivered in 8 years at the Crows $500k add $100k for free agent premium

Personally i dont believe the Crows want to keep him specially on a $600k x 5 year deal

So what would be the point of matching ? To get a better return ? What could they possibly get from the Saints ?

6-7 spot upgrade on their compo pick at best and thats not going to be worth the hassle or the energy - MOVE ON and Thank Brad for his 8 years of service to the adelaide football club

pick #23 - Brad Crouch

Curious.

Why do some people think that other clubs now get involved?

He's not going for less of a contract, and he will now cost more from an asset point of view (picks, players) as an OOC if he refuses the Adelaide match.

If said potential clubs wanted him and wanted to get involved they could simply lodge an offer with his manager as St. Kilda did. But they didn't. Defies belief that they would now that they have to trade for him?

Either I'm missing something (entirely possible) or that thread of thinking goes against logic.

Exactly, I said similar weeks ago.

Crouch is only worth what someone is willing to pay, and the Crows receive a FREE compensation pick for his worth. Where that is in the draft is linked to their finishing position (last), so they are lucky in that sense as it would've been much worse.

All the Crows fanatics slinging sh!t and vitriol at the Saints is ridiculous, the Saints are only paying Crouch what he's worth. If the Crows have any anger it should be towards the AFL for it's silly rules.

The Saints only have interest in Crouch as he's FREE. The Crows are entitled to match the offer and keep him. It's not that bloody hard. Take your anger elsewhere Crows. This is why we don't have guns, a bunch of morons always end up shooting someone innocent.

No. The value of a contract always dictates what you should trade for a player regardless of age, or contract status.

/Sarcasm

Looks like St Kilda have been played
How so ?? We have offered crouch a very reasonable contract we learnt from hill last season crouch was strait up not worth any more then we offered him we either get him or we don’t we’re no more worse of then before Adelaide are the ones in a no win situation
