Until someone tests positive 3 times, the AFL rugs policy has no credibility.

There is more to it than that isn't there. Wasn't part of the underlying theme that it was a poor irish farmer against the english police and politicians? I think this has made him an australian icon (icon more than hero) because it typifies the "little aussie battler" refusing to give up against the greater odds. Chuck into the mix the armour to help give the tale some legs.
Yeah, I'm aware of the 'legend' of Ned Kelly. To me the true Aussie hero has always been the Digger. But that's just me.
