does anyone else think we can potentially turn him into a brad sewell type?
it might be because i think they look similar and seem to have similar builds but it could be a win for us

I'm hoping he can turn in to a Chappy "type".

He seems a neat player who reads the play well and can find the gap between the big sticks.

If he becomes that type of player we will all be happy.

Both of a fairly similar size but the Caff has him in height.

Sewell is a stronger body, yet 4 years difference you would expect that

Macaffer HT: 187cm Wt: 88Kg
Sewell HT: 181cm Wt: 86Kg

hey i was right! I also think that they are completly diff types of players but i would be mistake if sewell started off his career in the same possy.

The last time I looked at Macaffer's body, he looked very strong. He could well become our version of Sydney's O'Keefe. We will have a midfield to be taken seriously if both Shaw and Macaffer make up the numbers. Another good rookie pick-up for us.

O'Keefe would be the style of player we'd be looking at. Robert Murphy is another possible as well.

Macaffer does have midfield potential though.

i dont mind this kid , but i cant see which position he is going to make his own as yet. not doubting his skills , just nothing exceptional stands out at the moment

have a few hbf better than him, ditto with forward flankers and he would not be in our top few midfielders.

We were bloody offered O'Keefe as a trade for Nick Davis and we did not want him. Obviously he was just starting out and no one knew much about him then. I wonder if the recruiting staff would change their mind if they could turn back the clock.

I'm hoping the same.

There is always the tagging or utillity role which he would be fine in, but I would like to see him play a Ryan O'Keefe role. Playing him up field is a waste of his accuracy on goal.

Also with Leon and Medhurst 28 turning 29 this year, Lockyer 31 this year. And Didak moving to the midfield I would consider it pretty important that Macaffer gets introduced into that type of role where he can play half forward flank or midfield like O'Keefe.

John McCarthy, Jaxson Barham, Simon Buckley and Sharrod Wellingham are the players I would try to develop into the tagger role instead.

Not sold on him yet. Will watch with interest this year. Boy if he turns out to be a constant 22 player, we've pulled another one from the rookie draft. Would be a great effort.

Hmmm, a very useful trait to have, particularly on a Saturday night...

Agree though, he does have the potential to be a 'Chappy type' How good would that be

Agree with this.

I'd be happy with him used in either position really.

He offers a bit on the HFF as he is just so clean with his disposal it would be a real benefit having him delivering to our forwards. He also has good goal sense and would be dangerous himself. I'd like to see him win more of the ball though.

In the middle we really have a need for a tagger. I'm not overly confident in our other options and I think Macaffer might be the best of the lot. McCarthy and Francis are our best alternatives IMO. I'm not that confident in Barham, Wellingham, Buckley or Cook at all for various reasons. Macaffer went alright on Pendles in the intra club match apparently which is promising. I wouldn't mind seeing him developed into this role at all.

I hope this doesn't happen, but, if Meds has another year like lastyear does anyone else see Mac possibly overtaking him? Just a thought, and touch wood it doesn't come down to that. I'm very interested in seeing how the Mac will evolve as his career and development goes further.

Well that seemed to be the role MaCaffer played in the finals, where Medhurst was basically "missing in action" (dropped for prelim).

I see MaCaffer as a good old "utility", in that he will be able to fill a gap wherever we need him each week.

Players like that seem a little rare now, so he could be in our best 22 by years end, just because of his versatility.

Will be another rookie success story at Collingwood.:thumbsu:

This makes me very happy :D and yeah I agree you rarely see the utility players anymore so it's another brilliant selection by our club. I have a few mates who follow other teams Poorthorn, Carltank & Norf and they always give me the hell that we're no good when it comes to the draft, but we do find those rare hidden gems everytime and Mac is one of them!

I am not suer about Macaffer as a tagger.

In my opinion, the most important thing you need as a tagger is elite running ability. You need to make sure that when your target is about to get the ball, you are able to be there with him - which means both fitness and speed. Macaffer has strengths, but they are not necessarily in his running (compared to alternatives).

I definitely prefer Macaffer as a fourth marking forward pocket / forward flank (similar to Medders right now), who also has some ability to push onto a wing for a bit or a half back flank.

For the tagging role, I don't see there is anyone better than Barham for it, otherwise McCarthy, Wellingham, or even Rounds could be looked at. But I don't think we need someone in the 22 whose job it is to specifically be a tagger, we just need all our midfielders to be sufficiently defensive.

This is very true, we've done fine without a tagger in the past, we need to worry about our own game not the other teams, I think this is why Heater will/would be a great addition to the midfield group aswell good defencive skills.

If Sydney really did offer us O'Keefe for Nick Davis, then I should shut the hell up about Sydney stiffing us in that trade week. Pick #21-odd and subsequently Bo Nixon was a shocker of our own devising. :(

They did but rok had shown nothing at the time and was home sick (yet nonvic side wanted him).

Sydney were shafting us and pick 21 was better then a straight swap for rok, in hindsight well that's a different story
