He's being opportunistic because he's is using the dissatisfaction of the working class and their disenfranchisement from the political process (a direct result of austerity measures employed by the Tory government) to promote his particular brand of dog whistle politics.

My opinion of Farage is entirely down to his long history of barely disguised xenophobic comments, and bullshit stunts like this

'dog-whistle' politics is itself a dog-whistle, given how often the phrase is used whenever anyone dares question mass immigration

lol

can you understand the attitudes of the (non-london based in particular) british working class who have been screwed for the last 40 years in opposing ANY immigration that spreads more thinly scant public resources and potentially jeopardises their employment or employment prospects.

hell, even their perception. remember these are people who haven't had the benefit of family money or an education and the prospect of a cushy job on the continent or their EU exposed share portfolio isn't front and centre in their minds.

Britain's working class haven't been screwed by immigration, they've been screwed by globalisation, technology, England's declining political influence etc. Blaming immigration is the laziest possible response. In an era of declining birth rates and ageing population, immigration is not only essential, it generally drives growth.

False dichotomy. Immigration is the otherside of the coin to globalisation. Globalisation arbitrages labour that can be offshored, immigration does the same that can't. You can send a car factory overseas but you can't offshore your local electrician, carpenter, chef, etc.

To pretend you can have one without the other is nonsense. Both are used by the elite class to drive wages down for their own enrichment.

There is no evidence that immigration drives growth other than under a Ponzi styled economy where only economic inputs and outputs matter as opposed to improving standards of living. Unrestricted immigration drives down the standard of living.

they've still been screwed. and high levels of immigration by transient workers isn't helping them.

Your post received the response it deserved. Unbridled gibberish.

As your comprehension skills are about as sharp as a bowling ball, I'll lay out my views on Brexit in simple terms:

- I believe that the main reason for the leave vote was disenchantment and disengagement from the political process, by those who've suffered the most from austerity measures.

- A range of spivs and chancers have used this to push their own barrows (i.e. Farrage and Boris to name a few). My reply was calling out said poster for being in the latter camp as he/she/it was stating that those in the remain camp were blaming it all on the xenophobes
I do agree with the reasons you gave, but would add that the foreign policy of the west is also biting them in the ass. People can see that not only are they going to be forced to intake huge numbers, but it was the establishment pro war camp who are always in charge that caused the crisis by intervening in far away countries, dropping democracy bombs on relatively peaceful and prosperous nations. Also the media has cried wolf once too many. Only truly foolish people take the drivel spewing forth from the msm as anything less than manipulative tripe.

Can't argue on those points (bar the forced intake of "huge numbers")

You could say that about most pollies these days, they belong to the "political class". I find it highly hypocritical that someone who was a commodity broker before his current "career" would be castigating others about their work history
Ironic, but its sure as anything exactly what his supporters who are blue collar types want to hear him say.

at least we're charging them 320k for a medicine degree and not letting them work in general practice anywhere but the sticks for at least 10 years.
Not international students but overseas trained ones who come to work in the sticks and have to spend time being supervised in hospital, a lot are non productive with poor communication skills and poor clinical judgement.

You should take to the streets to complain how unfair democracy is. As in Britain the "stay" crowd have dissembled the whole "leave" vote as racism, they want London to secede, older voters sanctioned and more referenda until they get the result they want!! Then this morning there's a massacre in Turkey, the gateway to the EU. You truly cant help some people.
Maybe they will argue the old people vote should be thrown put particularly if they are on aged pension or cognitive impairment- because they will be dead and the current youth suffer consequences of old people vote...

This is clearly not a serious post.

Why is he not allowed to point it out? At least he can argue to have worked outside of politics, and even if you don't think his work history is 'real work', he can at least recognise the failure of the political class to connect with the people, something most of those opposing him cannot do.
Commodity broker does not equal work.

Good work there Mr. False Dichotomy

So Boris has fled, it looks like the options are Gove or May.

Thats not great.

May will be a stabilising force, but Cameron lite, though more pro big banks and tougher about immigration.

Generally the Tories are completely detestable, however at least May could bring a semblence of order.

Looks like Gove will get the hardcore voters who wanted Brexit. He's been in a reforming role twice before as well. Could well have the skill to severe the chord.

Actually I suspect whichever of Leadsom and Fox finishes higher will get much of the conservative vote. Gove will be hoping get enough Boris supporters, rather than having them leak to May (who will be on the final ballot, thereby nullifying those extra votes) and the others (who may replace him in the final two).

Knew Boris lacked ticker.
