He is partially correct though.
Just because AFL isn't going so well in Queensland doesn't mean Australian Rules isn't doing fine up there. As Ive said before, family up there reckon grassroots is going gangbusters and participation rates are through the roof.
Participation levels in Qld are higher than SA.

Ofcourse they should be worried.
This current state doesn't have to be permanent though.
It will be hard though, they just can't seem to keep any of their kids.

True they're doing well - but they seem to have forgotten about their main profit making product - the AFL premiership comp. It's the VFL

Brisbane has plenty of talent on their list. They have far more top draft picks on their list than we do for instance.
They employed a poor coach and lost a shit ton of money on the stock market.
We do? We only have 4 top 20 draft picks on our list: Rich, Mayes, Schache and Hipwood.

You're the one missing the point, the AFL helped you out by giving you draft picks and $ just coz you wasted it doesn't mean it didn't happen
I have to laugh when Port people point the finger over assistance. Are you actually aware of the amount of financial assistance your club has received? :drunk:

We've been given two PPs in the last ten years, used on Blease and Trengove. Neither have done us any good. My point is about what really helps a club out of the doldrums. I'm not saying Brisbane shouldn't get picks, but picks are the last piece of the puzzle. Fix the back end: admin and FD especially.

If only brisbane could be as lucky as the hawks and win a trio of premierships....wait a minute...they did..not that long ago. Teams cant be awesome year in year out. Especially if they drop the ball on a good rotation of talent. Pretty hard to start from scratch.

That's not the priority pick's fault!

Yeah because at the time we needed, to get back on our feet independently we needed help. And we got $. As did your club.

Saying basically your saying "look the AFL gave us picks and money and we wasted it so it will never work for any other club" okay mate.

What are you talking about? Where did I say the club wasted money? Clearly, the acquisition of Roos and the clean out of the FD, which the money assisted with, has been a massive contributor.

You and I have been over this.

I can't be any clearer. I've said repeatedly that picks shouldn't be ruled out for the Lions. But those saying they've helped us are wrong. They haven't helped us.
That's not the argument though. You're missing the point. Completely missing it. You Melbourne a Victorian club obtained help through the AFL when you needed it. Brisbane hasn't to the same extent.

People need to stop saying that as 2003 may as well have been a lifetime ago in AFL terms. I mean Melbourne have turned over 70% of their list in 4 years.

Easy to say for a supporter that has done ok in the last 10 years. The supporters who havnt seen success for 30 years or more would give their left nut to have seen their side win 3 in a row only a touch over 10 years ago

I dont really think so. 13 years is not that long ago. What are "football years"? A year is a year. Ask St kilda when their last one was.. 50 years or something. We cant start crying foul cause we havnt won one in ten years.

Which F wit at the AFL thought the Lions didn't need priority picks or other assistance? Do wee really need another Brisbane Bears?

Wake up AFL before it is too late!

Brisbane fans aren't asking for support to win flags. We're so far off even thinking about a flag. And we should be precluded from any support because we won 3 flags 13 years ago? I don't get this line of reasoning.

What the Bris fans want is to be competitive and actually operate at an AFL standard. There are areas in which we have made errors. There are also a hell of a lot of things we need to do as a club. But we also need support in quite a few areas...the support isn't going to win us a flag...it's support which is needed just to get us to an AFL standard.

The problem is we've played finals 1/12 times since 2004 with things obviously not improving anytime soon (Another three years at absolute minimum and that's with a miracle). We're not aiming for a flag...we just want to be competitive in a difficult market. 19/20yr old fans will literally not have many/if any memories of the glory days - they'll have only known a Melbourne Demons-esque team their entire life. This gets especially worse for a club in this sort of situation if they're in NSW/Qld - Why would the average person get into Aussie Rules or even stay interested when that's on offer compared to something like the Broncos?

If the AFL dont give the Lions a PP this year then they never will give it to anyone

I'd just be happy with them not tampering any more with the freaking academy system.
