Um, no, they didn't.
They were allocated draft picks as per the draft rules at the time.
Brisbane last year (& probably this) are asking for additional assistance.

I would have thought absolving all AFL debt would help more than a draft pick.
Especially if said player left the club a year or two later.

Are you really that daft that you can see the difference?Lol, they were given priority picks under priority pick provisions in the AFL rules. The rules still allow the AFL to give clubs priority picks, all that has changed is the qualification point.
Even for a master obfuscator such as you Jeff, suggesting that these clubs weren't given draft assistance is about six bridges too far.
If they're not making repayments to the AFL, what difference does it make?I would have thought absolving all AFL debt would help more than a draft pick.

Rules are objective. Concessions are subjective.

Probably suits the AFL to carry the debt on their books.
Whose fault was it when Carlton, Hawthorn, Melbourne, St Kilda and Collingwood were shithouse and got draft assistance?
You do know a PP doesn't need to be before pick 1? We could just as easily get and end of first rounder as a PP. We don't necessarily stand to get pick 1.Assuming the AFL give Brisbane a PP this year, they've actually benefited by the AFL changing the rules on PPs.
If the ladder positions don't change between now and the end of the season, they'd be getting pick #2 & pick #5.
Under this system they'd get pick #1 & #3
I'm sure Lions supporters would still find a way to whinge about it.
So all the draft picks GWS & the Suns got are just part of the rules open to everyone? You've jumped the shark on an Evil Knievel rocket car.
Priority picks still exist in the rules. They are a concession either way... all that has changed is that they aren't automatically triggered by pure win/loss numbers any more.
Priority picks are draft assistance no matter which way you try to spin it. You've screwed the pooch on this one.

What do you mean? I don't think we will get pick one if we get a PP at all tbh. More likely around pick 20 i.e. end of first round. Not sure which part of this offended you.Yeah.
I'm sure you're smart enough to work out which type I was talking about.
(FMD, the hair splitting from Lion fans gets tedious. Too desperate for any sort of win)
The AFL Commission have always had the power to grant concessional priority picks.I have no idea what point you are trying to make?

*sigh*Wrong
Under the old system you needed consecutive years of 4wins or less, were the only team that met the requirements.
Fremantle / Essendon (if they stay at 4 wins or less) would have qualified for end of first round priority pick thou.
So no additional benefit under the new system.
*sigh*
I was talking about the rules in place that resulted in most of the priority picks TBD was whinging about.
