the moment he was drafted he made it clear that he was only playing the one season with brisbane & he gave his all by winning the rising star award

never jumped ship, had the opportunity when port came into the league & stayed

Is football not a "Team" game, should we not look at the career of each footballer and thier contribution to making thier "team" successful, this would decide who would be the better player.
In this sense, I think Ricciuto would just tip the scales in his favour.
As a captain he is more revered by his teammates, by far a much better captain than Buckley, He leads by example in every game that he plays.
To say that he has no skill is probably one of the dumbest things said on this poll. Both players are extremely well skilled and with that said, Buckley probably takes the skill debate, but only just.
On field presence, there is no debate, the Roo is head and shoulders above Buckley. His influence on a game can only be matched by Voss and Hird and more recently which is surprising, Aaron Hamill.
While Buckley is indeed a champion, I dont think that at this stage he is a better player than the Roo.
Ricciuto for mine, but not by much.

football is a team game, but the players dont get a say in the players they play with

for feck sake adelaide won a premiership without the all conquering roo, so obviously they didn't really miss him much.....

bucks obviously doesn't go starting punch ups at pubs to garner the respect of the playing group like the roo, he just puts his heart & sole into his football

its quite clear that roo doesn't need to influence games as much as buckley because he has always been surrounded by champions mcguiness, jarman, mcleod, hart, smart, bickley, edwards, goodwin..... buckley has had g.brown, willo & burnsy

think u should watch games in 02-03 when collingwood played brisbane, buckley & voss would go head to head & bucks always played better, just the fact that brisbane had another six a-grade mids to collingwoods probably none

he even won the norm smith playing against voss et al in a granny

buckley would have been brisbane captain if he had stayed there instead of voss & arguments wouldn't even be raised!!!

I like Bucks actually mate but the ROO is a better player and has acheived more then Bucks can imagine. To have a Brownlow Medal and Premiership medal round your neck is a bigger achievevment then Bucks Brownlow and Copeland medals. But has far as skill goes they are even

Ricciuto has led, and contributed to, a team that has had a number of stars in the midfield. Buckley has stood out in a team with fewer stars. That point goes in Ricciuto's favour, not Buckley's.

...I can only put this down to an anti Collingwood sentiment or lack of care factor from non Pie/Crow supporters. In all reality, Bucks is a whole echelon above the Roo.

the fact that adelaide were able to win a flag with riccuito not playing shows that he wasn't really missed

much easier to get stats in a team that is winning & has other champions because the oppo cant tag everybody

buckley was getting double teamed & his team would be smashed in the stats yet he would still get his 25+ touches

bucks has won every medal you can win based on talent

the only award he hasn't won is a premiership medal but that is about being in the best team & bucks team been poorer than roo

adelaide won premiership without roo, clearly his value to the team aint in the same league as buckley who pretty much took on the mighty brisbane midfield on his own in the 02 grand final & won the norm smith medal for best on ground as a result

If he was in a good side he would have teammates such as mcleod, goodwin, edwards, and in the past bickley, modra, smart, hart taking votes off him.
