Ok - let's keep it civil and not the usual Buddy s**tfight.

I am interested to read people's thoughts on where Buddy sits in terms of AA selection for 2010. There has been no real fanfare for his season but in terms of forward positions, he still stacks up pretty well.

He currently sits 4th on the goal kicking table yet has missed 5 games through either injury or suspension. Add to this, he is probably playing consistently further from goal this season than any of the other top 10-15 players on the goal kicking leaderboard.

16 games, 56 goals and consistently collecting either side of 20 possies playing a long way from goal. Has he done enough? If not, who is in those forward spots? 6 on the field and allow 1 on the bench gives scope for 7 forwards. Without being a dominant force, is he in consideration?

Will definately be close. Has the second best goal average in the league this year, and fourth overall goals. Also averaging 18 disposals @ 106 SC points.

I dont see why he wont be considered, let alone get a gig.

He would be a chance, obviously Jack is guaranteed a spot, ditto LeCras. Paul Chapman, Steve Johnson, Brad Green, Alan Didak would be fighting it out for the flanker spots. If you don't consider Hall as a CHF for the AA team then Franklin would be every chance i'd think.

If Goodes is considered more of a forward this year then he'd probably give Franklin a run for his money. Kicked less goals but makes up for the difference with assists and has him covered everywhere else all over the ground.

Franklin is an absolute lock for all Australian selection. Avgs 2nd most goals for the league, mist disposals as kp forward and most metres gained. If he hadn't of missed 5 games then he would be fighting it out Riewoldt for the Coleman and we wouldn't be having this convo.

Forward line will read:

Didak Franklin Chapman
Hall Riewoldt Johnson

Lecras the bench if his lucky.

I'd rather have Nick Reiwoldt at FF, if you make allowances for injury then I'd still take Nick.

Yes and that's because you're ignorant.

Franklin has averaged 18.4 disposals per game and 3.5 goals per game this year. Both those stats would be CAREER BEST averages for Nick Riewoldt.

Statistically speaking Buddy has Nick covered already at 23. Wait until Franklin is Nicks age. Game over

If was All Australian for handball over the top goals kicked in the goal square then yes

 How many times has that happened this year? 2-3 times at the most. If anything, Franklin's inclusion should be based on the fact that he creates more of his own goals than other KPF's. He has been roaming the ground a lot more, kicking goals after first getting possession on the wing, etc. He has been playing the 20 posession, 3 goal game like Brad Johnson (or maybe Pav?) used to much more than most of the other KPF's who spend more tme in the goal square.

In terms of AA selection, to not add my personal influence of bias, I would refer you to Aussie Gun's AA team (whose opinion I highly rate). Though not one of the first picked, he has Buddy in there, which is good enough for me (I think Aussie's team is pretty much how they should do it)

Ive heard this mentioned a few times... Who's first?

I think the AA forward line will look like this

Didak Hall Chapman

LeCras Reiwoldt Johnson

Buddy might make it onto the bench but the way the AA selectors are they are liable to name him to a HBF

Didak, LeCras, Hall, Jack Reiwoldt, Steve Johnson, Brad Green.

If Franklin made the AA team, it'd probably be a bench spot. Imo.

Franklin obviously suffers from having higher expectations than others (because of his unique skill set and because he kicked 100 goals in the H&A at such a young age. Now, it seems that unless he kicks a big bag of goals he musn't have been that great, but...that is not the role he plays and is not the only measure of how much he has been influencing the contest (I often used to hear how Franklin was thrashed if he lost one or two marking contests or if had 8 shots on goal but missed a bunch)

For example, I decided to look up the men posted above who are AA candidates and vying for his place - LeCras, Hall, Johnson and Green (Riewoldt gets FF as Coleman winner and Didak gets HFF as the usual 'midfield rotation' spot).

Interesting that Franklin gets more possessions, lays more tackles AND kicks more goals than ALL of them.

In terms of Supercoach analysis (for what that's worth);

Franklin 106.6 average
Green 95.7
Johnson 90.5
LeCras 82.8
Hall 81.5

(If not for the big weighting of frees against (which is often interpretation based, particularly for Hall and Franklin), I expect Franklin would have been further ahead of his rivals)

Edit: upon re-checking, Brad Green does get 1 more possession per game.

Everyday of the week. Up high on a HFF.

The bigger question will be, does Ablett replace Swan in the AA forward line this year with Swan as an onballer?

I'd rather have Nick Reiwoldt at FF, if you make allowances for injury then I'd still take Nick.

If it was picked purely on exposed form of games played, then Nick would be a lock. However, while Buddy has missed 5, how many has Nick missed? 10? Might be just too many. Does anyone think Nick Reiwoldt will be selected?

Mind you, not sure why you mentioned who you would rather have as FF. Buddy is nowhere near being a FF these days and the other Reiwoldt has that spot sewn up in any case.

Buddy gets picked as CHF, HFF, Bench or not at all.

Line those 6 players up for a real game.
Add Franklin. You can only pick 6 of em.
Buddy in every time.

Well yeah, but its the best team for this year, not best overall. I would choose Nick Riewoldt over say Hall, but that isn't an option this year either.

Franklin may get in, but regardless of his averages he would struggle based on how many games he has missed. Be a bit wrong to pass over Hall as well, particularly since with how influential he has been at the Bulldogs.
