The truth is that he was bloody awful the last two years. It doesnt mean that we shouldnt congratulate him on what in reality was a fine career for our club. 100+ games and a premiership.

Ezard Im semi shocked about. Mainly that weve delisted him but kept Ware on the list. Ezard improved a massive amount this year but I guess in my opinion he was probably the least likely of our kids to make it.

That 2004 draft is looking pretty average at the moment.

I just refuse to be a bloody hypocrite when all season there have been so many of us coming on the boards asking why he is playing week after week and wishing to hell that he would be dumped all together.. he is delisted and all of a sudden.............people are making out that he was one of the greatest players to ever play for the Power...........give me a friggin break

Sure, I think everyone agrees that the correct decision has been made. This doesnt mean that his fantastic years never existed.

Definatley a big cleanout. Have to say it was needed though. A lot of us wanted this big re development of our squad and the club is definately doing that.

We definately played Melbourne in 98 at Alberton. I think we may have also played North Melbourne there at some stage too.

The thing I remember about the Melbourne match was a Demons player whacking one of our guys behind the play and starting a fight, and then two minutes later he went off on a stretcher with a leg injury.

Gee i'm really glad that not too many people here have taken Matthew's delisting very harshly or anything... after all he was a key member of our premiership side. :thumbsu:

Dare i be the first person to suggest that Bishop might move into the coaches box next season.... ;)

To be fair though some people didn't attend games on a regular basis until we won the premiership so I guess they can claim that they never saw the best of Bish.

Signs are that Darryl Wakelin will stay on the list for another year so Bishop might not be a bad choice, at least he doesn't have too much more hair to lose. :D

Give me a friggin break, no one is "making out" that. And it's not hypocritical to tactfully choose your moments.

A hypocryte you are not.

There are names for people like yourself but that won't add anything to this discussion. :)

BTW, name someone who wouldve played his role in 2004 finals campaign.

One day guys like Michael Wilson are going to be over the hill, and maybe even a detriment to the team. We might even scream for their non selection a year or 2 before it actually happens. Bagging him/them the day they are delisted will be bad form as well.

why cant people post the friggin truth. You bag him all season and suck up when he is sacked.
Because a lot of us can seperate that
a) we never had any problem with Bishop as a person
b) we thought he was an integral part of the side from 2001 - 2004, including our GF.
AND
c) he's been crap since 2005 and shouldn't have been picked to play. And when he was, he played like crap and deserved his performances being bagged.

Now that he's retired and can no longer keep a youngster out, why would people highlight the third point over the first two? It doesn't mean we suddenly are trying to disassociate from it, just that at this time you rightly praise the good he's done for the club, not the drop off due to age, injury and form the last two years.

Ware just ran out of chances really. It was said on another site that he was alledgedly arrested after the GF last weekend and it seemed to be confirmed by a couple of Dogs supporters there, though they did say there wasnt much in it and it didnt go any further.

Although I called for his axing, I will still pay homage to a past great of the Port Adelaide Football Club. His current form dictated that he had to be delisted. Thanks for the memories from 2004 and before....

Also, would like to wonder what young defender was put on the table at trade time for Bish's delisting to be done after trade week?????

Bishop was kept on the list with the hope that another club would offer something for him. No need to delist him prior to trade week.

Nowhere near as good either, just for the record.
There is always some middle ground but there is a huge difference between appreciation and the outright dismissal of a player that served our club well for seven years, the last two were disappointing but you can't dismiss his first five.

BTW thanks for your "tasteful" comments about one of our players on the main board or Bay 13 or wherever the troll thread was at the time you posted in it. Poor form IMO. By all means voice your displeasure at his selection while he's still in the squad but the guy deserves better than the abuse 2 or 3 individuals here have poured on him since he was delisted. At least one has since acknowledged that Bish made a good contribution for a number of years.

Sorry but I beg to differ. IMO Bishop was a waste of space and was never a useful player. We would have been far better having Bassett in the side, as shown during the 2001 finals when he murdered every opposition forward he played on.
Bishop gave us nothing.

I think I recall Bishop being named our best player in the 2002 finals series.

And really where is Bassett now? If he was any good as a long time footballer he would have made it at the Western Bulldogs especially considering how small their backline was at that stage.
