Do you think Ballard will play more AFL games than Weller Rodney? Potential comes into rating a player not just the past 20 games.

I see where your coming from and you probably right but some times luck comes into it and where you end up. Freo very strong in mid field but have a look at tigers, Anthony Miles could not get a look in at GWS goes to tigers as a rookie gets elevated early and has not missed a game since.

So what is our offer for McCarthy? If 22 + next years pick isn't enough we'll have to part with a player with currency.

That's if you believe (like many on here) that next year presents the last opportunity for a premiership.

In reality - it doesn't. Our team in 2017 will be far stronger with the likes of Fyfe and Neale hitting maturity, Weller on the wing replacing D Pearce, our young key players also hitting that 22-24 bracket

Is the view to sell the farm now for a single player to give us a shot at next year? Or wait one year for him to request a trade home, pick him up for far less and keep our key players together?

It's not just about short term 'needs' but the longer term picture ... for what it's worth i'd throw our first two picks and Suban in as a trade option. Two picks and Weller is obvious overs to be presenting for a player who in 12 months time will ask the same question again and be available for closer to market value. I'm happy for the club to back it's current position

Exactly. We need Barlow for next year to compete for a flag. Weller isn't required for this due to Bennell arriving at the club. Time to pay overs for a Key forward and have one last crack before a mini rebuild. Selling the future for 1 year out of 8 isn't exactly torching the club. The players we are bringing in are also 20 + 22, not exactly old timers and the comp will be wide open next year as surely the Hawks will run out of juice.

As above - do you 'sell the future' and lose a potential future gun in trade for a crack next year, or do you take next year as a development hit and have both players the year after for the future?

Therefore Suban + Mzungu + DeBoer + Hannath = McCarthy.

So GWS are willing to do a trade.They just want the best one possible. All that noise about a contract being a contract is just that. Problem is getting a player who would say yes to being sold down the river.

Nobody can take GWS seriously when they talk about the integrity of a contract. They managed to shake loose Griffen last year.

This is pure speculation from me, but I think what has happened is Freo put on the table pick 22 + 1st rounder 2016. GWS then wanted a player, which we offered to do (I have no idea which player). GWS wanted Barlow, and Freo said nope (perhaps Barlow refused to be traded? I don't know). On Sunday night we have the article saying that Freo will only offer up its picks.

My gut feeling says that with Steve coming out today means Black has probably changed his mind about leaving norf.

NORTH Melbourne midfielder Ryan Bastinac is set to join Brisbane in a move that could land the Roos pick No.17 in return.

The Lions have tabled a four-year offer for Bastinac, 24, and are eyeing him as a replacement for wannabe Collingwood midfielder James Aish.

The deal for Bastinac would see Brisbane give North Melbourne No.17, the selection the Lions received from West Coast for Jack Redden.

In return, the Roos would potentially give Brisbane a trio of later picks, including No.34, No.38 and No. 40, boosting the Lions’ points balance to bring in their two academy players.

But the Kangaroos are set to keep Aaron Black, with Fremantle bowing out of the race for the out-of-favour forward.

After tracking him all season, it is believed the Dockers have cooled on Black, despite likely missing out on Greater Western Sydney forward Cameron McCarthy as well.

Aish wants to join Collingwood, but the delay on Adam Treloar’s move to the Magpies has buoyed the Kangaroos’ hopes they could still land Aish before tomorrow’s 2pm trade deadline.

The Kangaroos are believed to have offered Aish upwards of $400,000 a season.
