It's easy in hindsight but we looked tired and a team screaming for a bye

Also for all his perceived flaws we look much better with SDK in the side
The real player we missed in the first half was blitz around the ball or on the wing like last week.

That’s the real pain with the SDK injury. Surely Stewert, Zach, Jack and CoS had it covered.

I didn’t think we played that bad outside the first 20 mins when we couldnt win a clearance. Just mind numbing errors that they punished everytime. Reminded me very much of the GWS game. Just rope a dope.

So further to posting about no luck, if you can make the connection, here's Scott:

"We thought we were getting enough chances to be competitive, but it just felt like one of those nights where, I sort of said this to the players, what could go wrong did go wrong. That happens, it happens to the best teams."

Thought Jack Martin criticism was harsh, still a mile off match fitness wise and made some mistakes trying to take the game on but at least he had a crack, will be a good player when it matters if we keep him out there.

Every time we play Brisbane Harris Andrews destroys us. Back when Hawkins was playing and worse now with Neale. Tonight was typical and was accentuated by slow movement into the forward 50 and often bombed in. Neale would run under the ball and Andrews would protect the drop zone and mark the ball, hardly contested because Neale had already taken himself out of the contest. Andrews had 12 intercepts including 10 marks. He killed us. Andrews is on the slow side so Neale just needs to lead early and give a target. But tonight Neale just stood at center half forward with his hands stretched out like Frankenstein's monster. Surely that's a forward coaching problem. Who is the forwards coach?

Best thing about the game was the atmosphere prior to the bounce. But beyond that…very little to cheer about. Irritating game and some pretty annoying Brisbane fans around too
Can understand Brisbane fans enjoying it. They went in as considerable underdogs and they had lost their last 13 matches at Geelong. Plus Brisbane dominated the game. 10 out of 10 tipsters in a paper I glanced at in the morning tipped Geelong to win. Brisbane played a great brand of football as well often going down the middle and slicing up Geelong's zone. Add in a couple of minor speccies and the demolition was complete.

That was an utter disgrace. Enright milestone game 2.0

It completely changed my perception of the clubs chances this year. If we are capable of a capitulation like that, mentally, we are not a hope in September.

We read too much media this week, drinking the bath water how good we are.

Pretenders I think we are, unfortunately.

Great game from Connor O’Sullivan. He’s going to be the next Harry Taylor.

Feel sorry for Danger, he deserved more.

Yea they had me fooled. Genuinely thought we were a chance. No way this lot are achieving anything this year. Embarrassing, arrogant, pathetic bunch.

I find it concerning that there are a number of teams now that we just reliably lose against. We're no longer the team that nobody can figure out how to beat. It does make me wonder if Chris Scott is starting to run out of adaptive plans against these sides.

This is silly. Think you'll regret posting this in a day or two. You'd be hard-pressed to find a younger team than us who's performed as admirably as we have. Young teams have these brain-farts. It's part of the process. Holmes, Smith, O'Sullivan, Neale, Dempsey, etc. They're all still kids.

As disappointing as last night was, some might like to reflect on the mid season rut we were in last year. Getting belted by GC, Carlton, Sydney etc and losing to Port/GWS back to back at home. We were 7-6.

Win the games we are favourites in from here and we will finish top 4 minimum, but maybe even top 2. Then there will be a chance for redemption in finals.

Just thought it made us look like w***ers really, not sure of the need to americanize our game day experience constantly.
I’d rather the tshirts then all the crap on the speakers. 🤣

I think you've just answered your own question in back to back posts.

It's a team in transition. A mixture of young players who are prone to lapses, and veterans who play in fits and spurts, all while being a quality midfield rotation short.

It doesn't mean we can't do anything this year, but it does mean the game has to be played a certain way for us to win.

We'll be dealing with that inconsistency for a couple of years I suspect. Our ceiling is higher while playing youth, but our floor is lower too. That's footy.

The thing I can't get my head around is that we only had 1 less clearance, and had an equal amount of turnovers as Brisbane.

It certainly didn't feel that way but maybe it partly explains why we still ended up with about as many scoring shots.

If I had to guess, our turnovers were more costly and severe (including missing much more basic kicks), while our clearances were much scrappier and less damaging.

Also, when the Lions weren’t turning it over they were moving the ball brilliantly well and with deadly efficiency.

When were we that team outside the back half of 2022?

I take it you were at the game and didn't see the vision of the Ashcroft goal. There ends any faith I would have in him to play a high pressure final. One thing getting beaten in a contest, being that oblivious is a fatal flaw.

If we play Brisbane again this year with a full or close to full strength team we will beat them, especially if it’s dry

Are people really attacking the crowd shirt thing, I thought it looked cool on tv.

No one sensible and with a modicum of joy is attacking it. People love free stuff and it served well as a waving spectacle as they ran through the race. As a PR stunt it was designed to put a few more bums on seats. Surprised they put out recycle bins.

Che? Like who? GWS at home by about a kick usually. Seems to not matter in September.
Brissy have beaten us the last 3 times but not by much, and they have been in the top 2 teams in the comp for the last 3 years- hence it’s not a surprise. So it’s annoying but I wouldn’t have thought that concerning. I’m pretty hopeful that if we play them at the g, we are a better chance than at kardinia park. They looked very good last night though, so everyone might have trouble beating them.

I guess nobody is winning the flag this year then?

Brisbane got demolished at home by Collingwood and lost at home to Melbourne.

Collingwood got humiliated by GWS.

Crows scraped home against Brisbane due to Lions' inaccuracy, but have barely beaten a top 8 side otherwise.

Dogs simply can't beat the top sides.

Neither can the Hawks.

Nor the Suns, unless the game is in Darwin...
