Oddly his scoring metrics were way down pre concussion - it didn't feel like he was playing that badly - but they've picked right up since his return. Maybe a bit more instruction to attack and advance to half forward as opposed to wing areas.

Anyway he is a big barometer for our ball movement so it's a good sign he is once again getting involved in a lot of scores. The goals should give him confidence too.

Stewart has been way better than Sicily since returning. Chalk and cheese. He's just a good player with some limitations now (as opposed to superstar interceptor), but is not a ticking time bomb with ball in hand like ranga James.

He's been better but both are way below their previous levels. Sicily was enormous last year. I'm not sure what has happened to him?

COS will get there. I give him the benefit of inexperience atm, but I just don't know what to make of SDK.

He's a real ordinary player atm imo, and our backline looks unbalanced. I'd give him a spell in the VFL if it were me, but as others have said it's unlikely to happen.
SDK is going ok. He is likely a victim of a laconic body language, as well as his mistakes being magnified because they tend to happen in very dangerous places.

I like to think of it as the Josh hunt corollary.

COS is super talented and will be a future star, but we need to get him out of defence. I think/hope he ends up playing up the field sooner rather than later. It feels like this stint in defence has been a way to ease him into the team and teach him a few lessons. I hope it ends soon.

He is going ok, but is very much a victim of his high standards. Because he is not in automatic AA form he is considered to be “out of form”.

Thankfully the emergence of others (ie. Zuthrie, Lawson, etc) means we can cover for his moderate decline. In seasons gone by we would have been stuffed.
Stewart's intercepting, especially in the air, has taken a fair hit. He's using the ball well though. It's not surprising that having all of Stewart, Humphries and Duncan in the same backline has correlated with our scores off turnovers/defensive chains exploding. We are feeling Stewart's defensive drop off, that's all - he isn't bailing us out in that area 90% of the time like he used to.

Stewart is playing no where near as badly as Sicily.

Stewart is contributing, just not dominating like he has in the last.

Sicily is actively a detriment to his team winning games.

I think that the head knocks have taken a bigger toll than he would like to admit. His in game judgement is just not as good, and the knee injury has meant that he doesn’t have the explosive athleticism to outrun his mistakes.

Having said all that, he is still doing a job and certainly a positive contributor to our performances.

I agree I like COS across HB, not deep, but then I don't have confidence in SDK wherever he is.

I can see his laconic nature, but I want to see him overcome his shyness in a contest.

Got to watch the replay and if you get a chance pay attention to Stanley in the middle of the last quarter. He was fantastic.

Without going into play by play he had multiple hit outs to advantage ,( setting up Dempseys much needed goal)., the pack mark and goal, tough ground ball get and tackle leading to centre clearances and even linked up down back for an important clearance when Eagles were pressing.

Stood up when needed.

Gee, Kelly and Stokes really went out like players still in their prime. Stevie J, 2 goals 6. Could have had a bag! I totally forgot Charlie Cameron was once a Crow - Dangerfield gave him a blast for not going hard at the contest at one point:p

Josh Walker and Nathan Vardy both looked the goods here...
I certainly never forgot Charlie C was a Crow, he kicked 5 goals in the 2017 PF to help smash us to kingdom come.

Maybe it was the post season bruhaha the Crows endured but can you imagine releasing a young 5-goal in a PF small forward the following season? Crazy, although at least we got good value out of Tim Kelly with his 30 and 3 in the 2019 PF, helping is get Jeremy. But that was a huge loss for the Crows.

Re COS - what sort of roles up the field to you see for him?

In my view he looks like a key defender who just needs to put on a bit of size to compete with the really big key forwards.

But I didn't realize how much leg speed he had. That run through the centre last night was blistering. Big guys with speed and skills are a huge asset with the way the game is played today. I can definitely see him having massive versatility in years to come.

Yep. Completely agree, especially your second paragraph. The young lad looks a twig out there and also looks a likely type with great wheels.

Also listened to him being interviewed after the game, impressive. Future leader?

I havent seen the game yet , later in the week i will probably watch a replay of the last qtr when the Cats pile on the goals and that will be about it and ive only read the last page of this thread

But i would be interested how some of the say lesser lights played , Mullin , Mark O , Duncan , Atkins and O Henry , and the Sub did he move like a senior player when he came on

I am on record as saying he has the upside to be an AA calibre wingman.

He would be a nightmare to match up on, and it would take advantage of all his strengths.

I don’t like what I see from him in deep defence at this stage, but I can understand why we are playing him behind the ball. I just think he will only fulfill his absolute potential until he gets into more attacking positions on a more regular basis.

SDK has shown that he can play high level deep defender in the right system.

J Henry and Kolo make him an immensely better defender when they play alongside him.

We have a new leader in the Coaches' votes. Still unsure if he'd crack the Bulldogs best 23 but a nice first half of the season in the bag.

Interesting that a forward who was well held for 3 quarters gets 2 votes and the bloke who kept him quiet only gets one.
