I can name the best part of a dozen players from last night's team that would have their magnets on the board before Ollie, and then a couple more who missed due to injury & illness. In alphabetical order:
  • Atkins
  • Cameron
  • Dangerfield
  • SDK
  • Guthrie
  • J. Henry
  • Holmes
  • Miers
  • Smith
  • Stengle
  • Stewart

When available Blicavs & Kolodjashnij also.
On current form, I think you can add Dempsey, Laws and Sully to your list as well. They're actually all more important to how we're looking to play (and even to how we're generating scores) than Ollie is right now.

His form is concerning and I'm hoping he turns the corner soon.

You're bursting through the the middle of the ground you see Neil Cameron Dangerfield and OHenry in front of you, who are you going to?I'd suggest Dangerfield down there makes OHenry's job harder this year as Danger will always present at the ball and 9 times out of 10 will be used no one wants to piss the captain off.
OHenry may need to add another string to the bow IE lead early lead hard straight at the ball carrier create a different option.

I'd be kicking it to Neil Cameron Dangerfield, for sure. Given I suspect he must be Patrick's lesser known yet reputedly more talented twin brother.

Unrewarded running that creates space for others. Contesting against bigger opponents in the air.

That is just as important as defensive work, and even less glamorous.

When was the last time Ollie played in the vfl for Geelong?

Round 4 2025 🤷‍♀️

At the same time, if we look at last night's team you could say that question applies to about 80% of the team who are all pretty settled in the seniors since they've broken into it. Clohesy, Mullin, O'Connor & Stanley are the only ones who've really found themselves dropped back to the VFL at times over the past season, though Clohesy has never really cemented his spot in the seniors, while Mullin has played a few more games he would be seen as a fringe player still

SDKs VFL run late last season was due to returning from injury and same for Mannagh to start this year

Unless you're seen as a fringe player, it can be a lot harder to find yourself dropped from the Geelong side due to due indifferent form

Let him have a go at replacing his brother's spot for a few weeks?
Will help him defensively, he has footy smarts, good disposal, good mark, not much shorter.
We get Kolo back soon anyway.

Does someone know how to get running stats etc?

Someone just kept sticking out for me last night. Bowes.
I wasn't looking for him at first but I just kept seeing him. The guy was down back one minute and up forward 30 seconds later.

He was doing a lot of harassing and chasing last night. You need those players and I was impressed.

Sdk was dropped from the senior team at the end of last year.

Mannagh played significant time in the vfl because of performance issues.

Clark and knevitt.

There are plenty of players who oscillate between vfl and afl.

Ollie has played zero vfl games for Geelong. That is very telling.

The fact that Stengle is also struggling for form, makes me think, there is something going on that it is making harder for our forwards to get decent delivery and space in the forward line. Even Cameron is struggling to find space in forward 50.

I don’t think dropping Henry would help us or him. Our game is not as connected as it was last year, we need to find that connection to push the top teams.

Sure, but telling us he’s indispensable or that we have fewer forward line options? I’m a supporter, mostly, of Henry but if you think there isn”t room for a fair bit of improvement in his game atm, I’d be surprised.

We've dropped him behind the ball before, potentially when he's brother has been injured in game

Not sure they'll look for that move for a full game if Blicavs returns next week, and we've got SDK & O'Sullivan playing behind the ball already

I use the AFL App, click on your desired match and far right option of 'Tracker'

Bowes doesn't get a mention in the top 5 for distance covered

😂 SDK wasn't dropped

Following his knee injury against Adelaide he underwent surgery; like plenty of others before him he returned via the VFL rather than throwing him straight into the seniors upon return. Without that knee injury or surgery SDK would have played out the season in the seniors

Mannagh had played 2 senior games, including one as sub before undertaking the usual path for new draftees at Geelong with a decent run in the VFL to assist in development - it's not like he was an established senior player at the time. Since being back into the senior team in rooms 17 last year, he hasn't found himself dropped to the VFL for form concerns

I never said that he couldn’t improve. He is a very young player, he will definitely improve.

But is he indispensable? Yes

Is he crucial to our lineup and structure? Yes

I am a bit more positive on Neal's game compared to most here

He had 3 shots at goal from memory 1 long range that was on target but didn't make it his goal and the behind from the pocket whilst also marking multiple times at or just inside 50 and passing to a team mate.

Now was it a great game no but it wasn't a bad game.

I think our biggest problem at the moment with our forward line is that they haven't played together a lot.

They have only played what 15 or so games in the same forward line without Hawkins in it and add to that they now have the magnet that is Danger inside 50 which just draws our players to kick to him.

The last quarter last night they finally started to click a bit together which could be due to getting used to each other or it could have to do with coaching changes or Melb cracking.

Give them time and if by after the bye they are still dysfunctional we have a problem.

Decent defensive pressure I50 as well. :winkv1:

SDK was fit for the finals last year and the club selected Stanley over him.

That is dropped in my book.

Established or not, Mannagh was dropped and played vfl for an extended run.

Going to need a few tall defenders against the crows.
