Chortle you pick one
Was weird watching him in the VFL earlier in the year. Spent time in the midfield and looks like a tortoise. Put him in the forward line and was more of a hare.

Truly bizarre to watch.
There're plenty that can find a yard or two if there's a goal on offer as opposed to a long chase down the wing.

Lets all be realistic here, we are absolutely no chance in this match, compare how Richmond played yesterday to any of our past 4 games and they are miles better than us. If we can get within 30 i would be surprised especially with Stewart out.

Heads up. You spelt pessimistic all wrong.

The keys to beating Richmond.

- don't allow their tall defenders to set up the wall in the centre of the ground when the ball is in our defense. They use this to their advantage. They force a quick kick from the their forward 50 stoppage where they have the numbers out the back. We need to be more careful moving the ball from defense and spot up targets rather than kicking blindly under pressure. Force the ball wide if we have to.

This is the big one imo and why they're such a great side with their forward pressure. They either force you to over handball in your defensive 50 and cough it up or bomb it long to the Richmond wall. We have a habit of over hand balling in our defensive 50, I think the instruction just needs to be to bomb it long near the boundary and hope 1 of our forwards can be in position to at least punch the ball over the boundary if they're out numbered and out positioned.

We did a lot right last time we played them, we just lacked the polish and had some pretty ordinary turnovers that allowed them to run away in the last qtr.

Bring in smith who in tandem with Stanley and our gun mids will ensure we win over 80 per cent of clearance. Hawkins and Menzel will have a field day up forward. In our last two weeks we have won both games due to a small period of play where we have dominated the clearances.

Make it happen. Play to our strengths rather then try to mitigate our weaknesses.

We can win even without Stewart.

Changes from last time we played:

IN: Menzel, Henderson, S Selwood, C Guthrie, Narkle, whoever replaces Stewart.

OUT: Parsons, McCarthy, Gregson, Zuthrie, Murdoch, Stewart.

Despite the loss of #44 we will field a significantly stronger team to last time on Friday.

What killed us last time was not having a second tall up forward to take some pressure of Hawkins. Menzel may not be a KPF but he will definitely help, and it’s vital we keep Henry forward and replace Stewart with someone like Thurlow to keep the structure the same.

We probably should have beaten them last time. It was a few costly turnovers due to poor foot skills and our lack of forward accountability that was the difference. We had a really good structure against them in the final too but fell away late after Martin took over.

I think it's time for either Abbott or Smith. If we're going to make finals we need to give Stanley a chop out so he's not cooked for when the real stuff starts. This game will be close so it's important we're not using a makeshift ruckman against a team when the match is tight towards the end. We got away with it against Melbourne because they decided to rest Gawn early in the last thinking they had the game in the bag.

The way i see it is we aren't realistically going to go to far in finals just doing what we're doing.
We need to find that extra difference. 2 rucks could be just that.
We've got nothing to lose anyway.
I agree. But I have a question for you.... Do you think the coaching staff will do this. ..
I think No. .

How would you know how Richmond played? Weren’t you watching our game like the rest of us?

I'm conflicted with this because I'm a big advocate for the Smith/Stanley combo.... But Stanley has been playing so well as the 1st ruck.

This is where we miss Sav because he's a good CHF/2nd ruck, which is what we're missing and the only other CHF/2nd ruck we have is Buzza:thumbsdown:

Can't take Blicavs away from FB now so the question is do we play the extra ruckman and push Stanley forward or do we keep Stanley as 1st ruck and somehow keep manufacturing a CHF/2nd ruck chop out?

IMO don't know.

No point watching the game if you think we've already lost it before the first bounce, just leave bigfooty for the week and don't comment on the result in the autopsy thread either.

I think we will win, by 1 or 2 goals. I think the team has been building to this game, and with the glimpses I've seen I think they have the proven form to beat the tigers if they bring it for the full 4Q (Which is hard to do, you can't really play the game you want for 4Q against Richmond, they're good enough to stop other teams' games).

Richmond remind me of the good Freo side a couple of years ago, plenty of non talented committed folk to a gameplan that works sprinkled in with an AA forward, an AA mid and an AA backman. If we can make Richmond question their gameplan, we are almost there at beating them.

I cant agree that we are no chance... and in some respects I think it maybe advantageous to see them keep winning...

I do not think we will have as much time to move the ball on as what we had yesterday We must really put effort into getting back off the mark.. be handy if Scott even mentioned something about players being held after a mark slows play down ..doesn't mesh with what the afl are trying to achieve.. but we generally are a bit lazy , or its something that has not been emphasised. Really see some sides that are drilled to really get back quickly so they can move it on without any smother.

And we have a tendency to handpass to a player thats being sweat on .. , a little more heads up and kick the ball if thats the best option, Rich will Nuc the ball carrier if we over do the handpasses

No team is unbeatable.. but we know who is on top and the favourite. How our kids standup etc will all be indicative of where we go this year

Stewart a big loss :(

What I’d prefer to do is bring Thurlow in for Stewart, give him a chance as a rebounding defender and not a wingman, then keep Henry up forward as I like him as the 3rd forward.

But if Scott is so set on putting Henry down back for Stewart, then I’d definitely want Smith to come in ahead of Abbott/Buzza.

Out - Stewart
In - Thurlow/Smith

Off the wall selection, but id like to see Miers come in.
Strikes me as a big game player and would be interesting to see what he does.
We know Jones aint really an answer this year, and can we just forget about Linc.
Also its time to bring in Z.Smith. See if we can stretch the Tiges with 2 proper rucks.
Not really expecting to win so worth trying a couple of things.
In: O'connor, Miers, Smith
Out: Stewart, Kolo, Guthrie

This makes zero sense. You FINALLY have Stanley playing like a
Ruckman, and you want to
Upset that Apple Cart and make him okay forward half the night? For the love of God please no.

I’ll say it again. Tigers are a small forward line. We don’t need another tall in. If Henry is in fact gonna go back, bring in a small player who has pace and tackles like a demon. Who can roll up through the midfield and use the extra space the G provides. Henderson will take Jack. That leaves Kolo to take he next tall that rolls through. And Henry to be 3rd man up, which is what Stewart usually does.
So the replacement is a forward, and hopefully someone mobile who’ll tackle and pressure.

So that’s Jones or maybe Crameri. Jones the better tackle pressure player, Crameri more experienced.
