Nope, can’t say I will ever be embarrassed by Freo picking Fyfe for a game of football.
I'm not embarrassed.
TBH I'm worried for Fyfe.
Fyfe is a legend.
But for the majority of 2024 he struggled. No knock on him, his body let him down. And this on the back of a disappointing past 3 years or so.
It would be a miracle for him to shine out there tomorrow.
Much more likely he gets shown up.
That's not right for a true champion and someone who has given his all for the club and for us.
I just want the best for him.
I don't want to patronise him. But he wouldn't be the first champion to struggle to see that he's not ready to deliver.
I hope I am wrong.
If Fyfe has a day out we will thrash that nepo baby.
LFG.

Id be ok with Darcy if Fyfe wasn't in also..

I'd be more happy if Fyfe was in and Darcy comes out..

Draper hates physical touch so I'm hoping he doesn't become a liability in the wet

Strange hill JLo is going to die on. Actually, it's not a surprise anymore - literally everyone is questioning the two rucks.. now it's questioning Fyfe who hasn't played in 6 weeks

Yeah exactly this... if you're gonna risk him, let him do it at home in front of the fans, not on a wet slog on the Gold coast in front of 50 people.

Why not hold him til after the bye and play him vs North at home? This feels an unncessary risk, as does an unfit Darcy in the wet. We could've played Aish and NOD instead and be no worse off imo.

Everyone is getting a bit worked up on the Fyfe thing.

I see no way that he isn't the sub which means providing we don't get an injury early he is going to be lucky to be involved in the game for more then 30 mins.

Sure, we are all worried that his body may not be up to it. But, it seems they are going to use him as the sub in heavy conditions that are likely to suit a big body like his.
I think it is pretty obvious that this is his last year and he and the club are keen to see if he can contribute to a very inexperienced team that is all over the place. It’s a role of the dice, sought of if not now when? I think everyone is comfortable with the risk and there is no long term plan.
Hoping to see a good 30 minutes from him and a possible role going forward.

They wouldn't have put him in if they thought he couldn't do 30/45 mins.
He doesn't have to be defensive, just big body getting the ball out to the others.
He's pretty good at that

Yep, if he plays 30 mins and has 6-7 possessions all of which are handballs, and the game is on the line i will consider that a win.

bit of overreaction around here. Two time brownlow winner who can play forward and mid is not a bad sub. Presumably Darcy will come off for him half way through the third quarter, injuries permitting.

Fyfe also a break glass emergency if we are getting clowned in the middle. For mine they are the best midfield in the game, and also the best half back line.

We have come back into a bit of form, I think we’ll give them a shake.

Time will tell if people over reacted or not, but the cupboard is really bare at the moment. Aish is probably the only non tall player who could reasonably come in.

NOD is more underdone than Fyfe, and is only ready for half a WAFL game.

The majority concerns are
1. The team being too tall and slow. I think this is fair, as we have played poorly when we have gone tall, and the last two weeks when we have gone a bit smaller, we have looked a lot better.
2. Playing underdone players coming back from injury. I don't think this has worked all year. Darcy looked average early in the season, and having him play 2 or 3 games in the WAFL would help.

My only defense of JL is that the options are so limited, that he has obviously gone for players who playing well and has sacrificed structure. I think this is a mistake. It will be interesting to see how he selects after the bye, when hopefully 3 or 4 players are back.

Also, if Aish and Brodie are not playing this week, they must be delisted at the end of the year.

Question: Who picks the team each week?

You're assuming that no-one will get injured early ie we won't need the sub for what he's there for. That is a significant risk before you factor in playing an elder statesman who hasn't played for 279 days or whatever. Risk x Risk = Oh Dear.

If the plan is for Darcy to hit every contest with Witts like Nankervis did against Xerri, then ill get behind it.

But im hoping JL is doing all this for the LOLs. LATE CHANGE: Darcy OUT with knee swelling, Aish IN.

I am praying the footy gods will be kind, and regardless of how well or how many minutes Fyfe plays tomorrow he comes through unscathed. The thought of his career ending with his last game as the sub, in the dung heap backwater that is gold coast, is too much. He deserves way better.

Rain during the game should be to our advantage. Hardly ever rains in SEQ during the winter months.
I remember playing there for 5 or 6 years and never did it rain on game day.
Climate may have changed a bit in the last 50 years though. Still I am led to believe that the weather system bringing the current rain to the GC area is unusual.
