64-39 inside 50 loss last week.

Woeful in defence but just as bad up the ground. Powell, McKercher, Zurhaar and others very lucky. The first two might be young but there's nothing worse for guys missing out playing VFL when those stinking it up in the AFL team don't get dropped.

Sure. It may be difficult for coaches to just blame one or two out of a whole midfield group that was collectively smashed and likely had everyone making the same positioning/balance errors at stoppages.
They get a week to respond and learn from the vision. We'll find out people's character in how they respond.
Those who don't respond in the right manner will come under scrutiny for Thursday's game in 5 days time.

That's a logical assessment. If so I would have preferred reading heaps this week and giving ourselves the best chance of beating *.

You still have to win contests, groundballs and execute basic fundamental skills as defenders.
GWS defenders were up against it with inside 50's against, but they defend like stingy bastards who hate conceding.
I'm sure the heat will come on the mids who don't respond to that smashing.

He's only been bog against the Blues. The week before he was good, but more dominant this game and got coaches votes.
Good chance he comes in on Thursday given the 5 day break between games. Maybe he takes Merrett?

Phillips has been basically BOG for three consecutive weeks in VFL (including the Collingwood praccy). Meanwhile Wil Dawson has been objectively poor in the VFL.

But we still have people writing Phillips off and wanting Dawson to play.

Nope, had to be done and I like the message it sends to other senior players. They're on notice. This is the type of selection I have been waiting for. Although I think Phillips probably deserved a crack instead of Powell or LDU.

Agree. Very happy with these messages being sent. Im okay with young players having opportunities to learn and okay with senior players being punished for not doing as asked - and expected.

Also happy to see Dawson get a run as I’ve felt he has been written off by this match committee.
