With Marsh out and Ponting likely to be rested the question is who should come in?

For the opening slot either Dighton or Hughes should be considered. I would go with Hughes and give him some experience. Another interesting one could be M.Hussey as an opener.

For the Ponting slot they usually go with Hodge but not sure how long he is out for. Either Dighton at 3 or push everyone up and play White at 6.

Personally I am not convinced Warner should even stay. He can only hit pull shots and it would appear the opposition have figured him out.

We desperately need a spinner as well. McGain should come in.

No to dighton, he is almost 33 if there not going to play hodge or katich then why play dighton he is a bit to hit and miss like warner also.

Give hughes a go seeing the ball like a beachball atm, he had a pretty good 20/20 and one day season thus far. Not to mentio is 230 runs in the recent shield game.

Hussey is just startin to find form batting a 6. I woud try Hughes as opener, white to bat at 6. Or cud they look at North or Voges in the middle.

Don't move Hussey again! Plus it seems he too maybe rested. I would give Warner the series if he doesn't perform then ship in back to get more experience with NSW. May as well get Hughes in, he and Warner have an understanding at least.

I also like the look of Callum Ferguson, would get him in that middle order and then push Dussey up to 3. Or could do the same with Voges who OD record is crazily good.

In: Hughes, Ferguson, Voges, Geeves
Out: Marsh, Ponting, D Hussey/M Hussey, Johnson

Johnson is a Test bowler, so rest him up. The others just need some time off. I also would consider dropping Hopes for a spinner, but that could leave Australia a bit light on their batting.

...and bowling. Fancy having one of our shit spinners as the 4th bowler over Australia's most economical and better performers whilst still retaining a crap spinning part timer as the 5th bowling option.

Voges has had a crap season hasn't he ?
Although that's a good way of getting in the Aussie side [i.e Symonds and Hauritz].Surely North is in front of Voges.North hasn't done much better with the bat than Voges but his bowling has been very handy.

Perhaps Hopes could open with 'One Hit Wonder' Warner, then bring in someone like Geeves or McDonald that can bat and bowl down the order.

I'd go for Hughes to Open and Katich to come in at 3.

If you're looking at smokies -no batsman is hitting the ball better than Leigh Carseldine at the moment, he would be a massive chance if he wasn't 33.

Klinger has been scoring plenty of runs in the FRC but his strike rate is lower than you would want it to be.

Perhaps Symonds could come in to replace one of the Husseys in the middle order but his form and his mental state may prevent that from happening.

Voges numbers have been ok but not outstanding.

I agree Hughes for Marsh. Agree Katich maybe the option for Warner if next 2 are crappy. Otherise Hodge opening.

Agree on letting Johnson resting up and poor more time into Hilfy. Would be keen to see Nannes / Dorey / Geeves.

White needs to be blooded. V talented at FR Cup but needs time.

McGain is not a crap spinner. He is probably one of the best 20/20 bowler going around and is fantastic at 50 over game as well.

1 Hughes
2 Warner / Katich
3 M.Clarke
4 D.Hussey
5 C.White / M.Henriques / C.Ferguson / Hodge (if fit) / A.Voges
6 M.Hussey
7 B.haddin
8 J.Hopes / A.McDonald / L.Carseldine / B.McGain
9 B.McGain / D.Nannes / B.Hilfenhaus
10 N.Bracken
11 S.Tait

IMO Hughes and Katich should come in - Hughes is playing great in all forms of the game, and would fit straight into the opener position. Katich into 1st drop - he is very versatile in batting position and has shown lately that he can be a very aggressive batsmen - his ton against Tasmania in the 1st innings was sublime.

Warner should get the rest off the 1 day series to prove himself, he was looking great the other day v SAfrica until was run out unluckily. I don't think we should tinker too much with the batting lineup, especially with M Hussey looking better down the order.

Katich at 3 probably works, the form Clarke is in atm you don't want to move him like we did with Hussey. What more Hughes, Warner and Katcih have played a few games together so they will have an understanding of each others game.

Warner
Hughes
Katich
Clarke
Ferguson/Voges/White
M Hussey
Haddin
Hopes
Hilfy
Bracken
Tait/Johnson

I reckon he'd a good choice, but as you said his age will prevent the clown selectors from picking him.The odd thing is they may pick a 36yo [nearly 37] to debut in the Test against SA in a few weeks.

One would think injuries aside that certainties to play are

Marsh
Warner
Ponting
Clarke
M Hussey
Haddin
Hopes
Bracken
Tait

Johnson and David Hussey are the only ones in the firing line you'd suspect. Hussey for mediocre performances and Johnson as rotation to rest him.

Having said that, With Ponting and Marsh looking like outs, you'd suspect they'll be safe to keep a fairly stable team.

Should be interesting who is brought in. White looks likely but would require a fair rearrangement of the lineup. It'd be nice to see Hilfy come in and see us go in without an undermanned bowling lineup, but that isn't going to happen.

I would like to see Hughes get a crack. How close is he realistically?

How about Australia's best ODI player?
I find it fascinating how everyone gets brainwashed by the media...
Roy has done nothing wrong (onfield) he is ready to go according to his psychologist.. Why not bring him in?
He failed for QLD on the weekend, big deal, he has never really made many runs for his state anyway. He is a different player when representing Australia.
Off field he has did some silly things, nothing bad enough to put his head on the chopping board.
God forbid there was a picture taken of him with a bong in his hand or he smashed into a car whilst drink driving..
Bring ROY back and you watch the difference in the Aussie team, he is the missing link in that team right NOW..

Voges is a certainty I think, especially now with Ponting out. The middle order is very brittle at the moment and Voges is a real grinder, the selectors will want his steadying influence out there. His record this year is better than I thought, too. 311 @ 44

Opening spot is tougher. Hughes would be my choice but he hasn't set the world on fire in this format so far

Agree and when you add his overall OD record which is him averaging 46 after 60 odd games it is a dam good effort. He also can hit it big when needed.

Best side:

Katich, Watson, Ponting, Clarke, Symonds, M.Hussey, Haddin, Lee, Bracken, Hilfenhaus, Tait.

Current side:

Katich, Hopes, Clarke, D.Hussey, M.Hussey, Voges, Haddin, Johnson, Bracken, Hilfenhaus, Tait

Might as well try someone new in the middle order with Ponting rested. Must also have 5 genuine bowlers.

Edit: I forgot about Voges.
