Significantly worse. My issue with weller was the extent to which his man ran off him. Yes, there were plenty of others, but I was actually responding to a post that Weller gave great effort. I seriously disagree with that view. Anyway, Im not sure why some here take such offence when you say a player who had five possessions didn't have a great game. Particularly when the opposition players who played on the player dominated to such a degree.
Not an offense , as I mention earlier before the match it is better to play Weller against GC where bulldog is a bit stronger than ablett lead GC.

Being serious though, what about Mayne's game were you happy about? Very little defensive pressure, didn't lay an effective tackle. Poor field kicking going at 60%. Tabs took more marks than him!!!

He was better, period. It's pretty hard to standout at half forward with some of the hospital balls we were just sitting up for the dogs to mark and counter attack with.
Moist I consider this game a write off asame as Richmond last year. We won't grow until we take risk.

How does Barlow and Mayne continue to get games? both have performed poorly for the last 2 years.

Mayne is unreliable and can't kick straight while Barlow can't spread or kick at all. Both out of contract end of year and I hope we don't renew it. That's $800k free cap space right there.

Significantly worse!

Drug test! Somebody drug test this man.

Exactly right, we need to learn to take the game on and move the ball quicker. Problem is, we don't have a lot of players with elite kicking skills. But yeah today was shocking. When Stephen Hill is missing targets you know there is something wrong. We never really got going apart from a decent third quarter.

I agree with you and it pains me to say it. Both very loyal clubmen but time is running out for the pair of them and it sucks because they are ripping people off the field and both love everything about Freo.

Yep. Five possessions what a dominant game. Im going to step away from insulting you back, but for crying out loud it would be nice if there was some impartial judgement about the performances of Weller.

Mitchell is slow but his decision making and ability to train himself to use both side compensate that.

If 3-4 changes is the most we can hope for.....
Out:
Clarke (inj)
Clancee
Mzungu
Suban

In:
Sandi (Will bolster our midfield and give us first use)
Johnson (Interceptor and provide more run out of backline)
Langdon (Literally can't be worse than Subes/Mzu. He showed some good things last year and will only get better if he plays AFL. Mzu/Subes have hit their ceiling and are not going to get better)
Mora (If he's fit get him now because it'll take him time to get back into AFL football)

I hated Mayne's game. All I am saying is that it would be nice that Weller doesn't get a free ride from criticism. Yep, I though Mayne's man didn't win as much of the football as Weller's. That is all.

Where has anyone said Weller had a dominant game? He was average at best but when you judge him against his peers he was one of the better players out there. Remember that was his 4th game of AFL. That was Mayne's 151st game.

I think Dawson was the only player today that can hold his head up high. Sherro did alright too, considering he was one of our most inexperienced players out there.

Weller will only gain proper AFL-standard match fitness through...playing AFL games. A bunch of them. We've seen plenty of times that running out WAFL games isn't sufficient preparation for when faced with the huge lift in intensity and physicality. This isn't the end of the season, there's no cumulative fatigue, the best times to give him bulk games is now.

Yep agree

He had never played enough game time because Lyon held him back during NAB cup and today he became a required player. Just give him game time and he might get up to speed. Sometimes its the only way Ross will see if he's up to it.

I think there won't be wholesale changes after this game, because the problem wasn't about personnel, but about effort and composure.

The worse performers were the midfielders, who are normally Fremantle's strength. Do we drop Fyfe, Mundy, etc? Of course not. Do we drop the scapegoats who will only be replaced by more scapegoats? Maybe, but to what end?
Yes, start to get games into players like Langdon, and get Sandilands and Johnson back in the team, but until there is a player ready to take over from Mayne and the others who performed badly (like Ballantyne), we have to rely on the players themselves to return to the form and aggression we as spectators are used to.

So:
In; an aggressive, proactive approach to getting the ball, and moving the ball forward quickly.
Out; the attitude that the few will do the work for the many.

And if Fremantle can't improve in those areas over the next three weeks, play the kids. But I think they will be able to.

Further to that Weller played permanent high half forward. We got 31 inside 50's for the whole game. 7.5 a quarter.
How many possessions are you expecting?
We had 4 tackles inside 50 today.

Who got those? Weller...every...single...one...

Yep and he has the biggest upside. Unlike seasoned players who couldn't hit targets. If he gets dropped then Freo will never move forward.

Sorry, but if anyone deserved to be dropped it was Weller. He was destroyed by the Bulldogs half back flankers. His fitness is below afl standard at the moment.

Yeh ,I like Weller and he will stay in but the play youth at all costs brigade are pumping up Weller to try and prove their point. He wasn't that good today.

Langdon's kicking in the last Peel game was apparently terrible from some of the reports. Id give Weller another chance, but geez some on here seem to not evaluate his play with any degree of impartial judgement. He was terrible today.

And you have seen the kid hit targets all day. He couldn't have kicked any worse than Spurr today.

Would it be better to play Weller against GC at home than a big lost against WB? Like I said I do love Weller game today but we really been outsmart by our opponent game plan today with their simple football compare to our perfect football mention by Ross.

The focus on Weller is missing the big picture. He was no world beater, but he offered more in the forward half than many of his much more experienced team-mates. His ceiling is unknown, he deserves a run to improve and show what he has to offer.

He wasn't but neither was anyone else. What's the point on playing the same mature players who have stopped developing and instead have regressed?

When our best mids like Mundy and Fyfe play well they bring others into the game. It's a confidence thing and we lacked it today.

Weller is hardly being pumped up but other teams back their youth in for longer amounts and some sink while the cream swim. Only one way of finding out.

It's not about bandaid solutions it's about developing the future.
