Senior List
I can't continue watching Chris Mayne. He saps morale too often in closer games although, having said that, Freo was never in the game today.
I'd like to see Alex Pearce used as a swingman and Langdon used in the link up role Mzungu used to play so well. An injured Clarke will make way for Sandi. Jonno in, Pearce out. If Jonno not fit then Silvagni.
The other player who has been let off lightly is Sutcliffe. He can't defend and these days he's lost his run and carry too. I'd like to see Hughes transitioned into his role, he seems to read the ball well and defend one-on-one better. Sutcliffe, I hope, can regain form but may do it more quickly at Peel.
Silvagni should never have been dropped for Pearce; I want to see a role for Alex because I think he has really improved the distributor side of his game and because he is such a competitor. Mora will also want to get a gig in the backline. So watch out Spurr, some of your decision making today was unacceptable for a member of the leadership group.
Suban and/or Barlow are also on very shaky ground, saved only by the number of changes already and Blakely needing to improve his own kicking. Barlow's disposal by foot is awful though. EDIT: And, of course, Bennell's injury
I agree with Gekko71 that the team seems to be struggling with the mental load of a change in game plan and focus on short, precise passing. I think this will take some time to fix - possibly half a season, like the Eagles under Simpson. That being the case, if we're going to lose a few during this period, they might as well play some of the kids who are the future anyway. Surely more interesting, too, even if we lose than the eyesore performance today.
