Out: Bassett (inj) Mattner (omt.)
In: Maric Vince

FF: Welsh Griffin Johncock
CHF: Stevens McGregor Porplyzia
C :Knights Van Berlo Reilly
HB Mcleod Bock Torney
B: Massie Rutten Doughty
1R : Hudson Edwards Thompson

I/C: Shirley, Ricciuto, Maric, Vince

Key changes are:
  • Mattner out, cannot tolerate his brain fades. If he is to be of value to the team, then FFS he has to play on the wing and be told to be more attacking. He should regularly be kicking goals from outside 50
  • Vince in, his form has been great for the eagles and can add much needed flair to the forward line
  • Griffen to play permantly up forward. Bring in Maric to backup Hudson. As a real tall up forward hopefully he can relive the burdon on welsh getting the oppositions no.1 defender.
  • Johncock up forward. Been saying it for weeks, don't need the attacking instincts of Mcleod and him down back. Is a luxury we can't afford anymore.
  • Bock and Stevens in straight swap. Basically Stevens provides more mobility up forward and reads the ball very well, has impressed when thrown up there. Also I trust Bock down back much more than Stevens in decision making...he is also a bigger body. Don't forget that Bock made his name in 05 as our CHB.
  • Van Berlo as our centreman. I believe he has taken the next step and can start leading our midfield.
  • Roo on the bench, use him as a pinch hitter until he regains full fitness. Got exposed today against west coast.

If Richard Douglas can not get a game after his heroics yesterday then he never will.

For mine:

In: Maric, Douglas, Goodwin
Out: Griffen, Doughty (won't happen), Basset

Lining up like:

FF: Welsh McGregor Johncock
HF: Thompson Bock Reilly
C: Van Berlo Goodwin Knights
HB: Mcleod Stevens Mattner
FB: Douglas Rutten Massie
1R: Hudson Shirley Edwards
INT: Ricciuto Maric Torney Porplyzia

I'll second that.

Griffin - Has burst onto the scene and has impressed big time, but boy he struggled today. Tried hard, but really struggled. Time for the lad to go back to the SANFL. He should do well.

Doughty - High possesion tallies, but what does he do? One of those guys who will get 25 touches and you'll think "really?". No hurt factor, not quick, average disposal. So so player.

Bass - Did not look good at all when he left the field. If he plays next week, he won't be 100%. I think we've learnt what happens when you play injured players today. Although I thought we might have done this after last years PF.

OUT:

Bassett ( inj ), Bock or Stevens.

IN: Douglas, Maric - Griffen to play predomiately as a forward.

If Goody and Burton are fit then they will obviously come in. If not, I think it's time we dropped inconsistent players ( Bock or Stevens ) to send a message to the group.

In: McIntyre, Maric, Douglas, Vince
Out: Bassett (inj), Stevens, Mattner, Doughty

I wouldn't drop Stevens, instead, move him up forward: good mark good kick for goal. He will deliver you 2-5 goals a game as a forward. There are advantages in having so-called versatile players who can play across the ground. However, some players get a little lost if they are not very certain of their definitive role in the team. Chad Cornes is a gun and has adjusted well now, but he has had a few issues with ever-changing roles in the past. I think now that some of your talls are coming back, Stevens should be given a defined role in the forward lines and he will deliver. He just needs a huge dose of confidence and a clearly defined role in the team structure not being a bit-part player who plugs holes due to injuries across the ground.

In: Burton, Vince, Douglas

Out: McGregor, Porplyzia, Basset

Pfft, way off the mark, of course depends on who will return from injury etc. But McGregor still doesn't impress me and Porplyzia has been a little off colour of late.

Guys you are dreaming if you think either of Doughty, Stevens or Shirley will be dropped. Whens the last time a player was dropped except for, Vince, Douglas or Jericho??

Not to say it shouldnt happen. Stevens should stay up forward and I would love to see Shirley get the flick and try either Douglas or Vince in the middle. If Shirley isnt being used as a tagger, then he isnt damaging enough to get a game as a midfielder. Vince and Douglas play in the SANFL as midfielders and burn but when they play for us they are in a pocket or a flank. Try them in the guts!

Why the **** do we need to drop Mattner? Maybe we should drop the players who are struggling for form.

You didn't watch/haven't been watching.

He was dreadful, and he always is when we play this crapshack brand of defensive footy.

He isn't a 3rd defender that Craig tries to make him. Watching from directly behind in the 2nd quarter while Jones tore him a new one rammed that home quickly.

Very slack defensively. He'd give him a good 10 metres before deciding that he probably should chase and spoil.

To be fair to Mattner hes a winger.

Thats where he should be playing, or at least running off the half back flank.

Shouldn't be made responsible for someone like he was today because he is lazy, and doesnt have the defensive awareness

But then why do we play this defensive crap? We SHOULD be playing attacking footy, as you saw last game against the Kangaroos he was great! And now we drop him for this crap game plan. He still wasn't worst on field today, probably sub-par but no that bad.

Oh and by the way, I stayed from start to finish for the game. And Jones did not rip him apart.

Out: Four points...

I don't think the AFC will overreact and drop a bunch of players. I have never seen NC wield the axe and don't think he will this week. Boyle out with a hamstring makes Bassett's loss easier to cover anyway. Douglas for Bassett will be the only change IMO, unless Burton or Goodwin come up.

Porplyzia has been a little off colour of late.
???

He was great today, our only forward who looked dangerous in the first three quarters, lead up the ground nicely, clean hands all day...

Was he even playing up forward today? I'm a fan of Jason and he had flashes of brilliance today, but his effort wasn't there. Chasing and tackling etc. He has to live up to that awesome Adam Goodes run down ;) But seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if wasn't dropped, he just needs to go that one step further and produce the type of footy he was playing earlier in the year.

I thought Porps was pretty good today. Nice hands in the forward line but then went back and struggled a tad.

I thought Porps was VERY, VERY good when up forward.

He had clean hands, set up a few scoring chances and looked very dangerous.

Completely disagree Crow*Girl.

I can see your point. Well, does anyone make way for Douglas (besides Basset), or does he sweat it out in the SANFL this week?

So I suppose me suggesting Roo be dropped would not go down too well then? ;)

Seriously, if we had the luxury of bringing Burton and Goodwin back next week, I'd move Bock/McGregor back to cover the loss of Bassett. Burton up forward to replace them. And Goodie straight back into the middle.

Just realized I forgot Douglas... got to reward him for his performance this week. Hmmm not sure now.
