I completely agree with the latter part of that, with our key need being that forward who can ruck, rather than a ruck who can go down forward like Luey, but I'm not sure if having Naitunui and Maric jumping over you for two weeks is going to do an 18 year old a whole lot of good. But if you think that Andrews can provide an 'equal' option to Luey, then by all means Andrews should be stuck with. Unfortunate not to see Dawson out there for the reserves after quite an impressive game the week prior. Amidst all the gloom, I really believe that the last couple of drafts have been very good. Obviously it'll take a couple of years to really see, but the early signs are good... Aish leaving is another issue altogether, how handy would a McCarthy be about now haUntil he can provide a viable option equal to or better than Andrews has been then he will play 2's with Martin our main ruck IMO. Andrews looks like a natural forward who can ruck a bit, which we need moreso than a decent ruckman who can pinch hit forward like Leuey.

It's a real shame. Lynch really struggled last week against Davis, but he'll feel a bit more confident against Clarke, particularly with no Patfull there to help out.
Unfortunately I think we're going to get blown away again. The Suns aren't lacking in attacking firepower.
I think it's the Suns smalls that are more likely to hurt us. Bennell, Martin, Garlett, etc.
Not here to shit-stir, just felt like contributing a bit.
I was at the game and honestly thought your backline did a pretty good job for the most part. The poor efforts in the midfield had the ball going to the right places all the time for West Coast.
My biggest concern though, was Cutler. He looked an absolute mile off on the weekend. The four of us sat there and groaned whenever he got the ball. Couldn't do a thing right.
I know all about poor kicking. Kane Mitchell is one of my favourite players. Trust me, I can overlook poor disposal if the effort is there, but Cutler's certainly wasn't. The ball landed in his hands by accident and he gave it straight back the opposition. It's very hard to get any kind of drive out of defence if your leading disposal getter in the back half is hitting opposition players on the chest inside 50.
Plenty of players struggled to have an influence for the Lions. Cutler had an influence, sure, but you could probably attribute Eagles scores proportional to the final margin, to his efforts. Was your worst on the ground by a long way for mine.
I really do hope you beat the Suns next week and I reckon you will. The endeavour, for the most part, was there against the Eagles, but you just weren't good enough.
I'm now where near experienced enough in AFL watching to know the full ramifications of this suggestion but it would be fun to see:
1. When Rog comes back to defensive anchor (he said several times that it takes him a couple of weeks to get used to a move if he moves from back to fwd)
2. Justin Clarke goes up forward and skittles a few packs. He's got a few strong contested marks and has no shortage of tank or courage or boot.
Stef Martin can stay in No 1 ruck
How would forward talls of Clarke, Luenbergererereerer (re Pink Panther) & McStay go.

McStay has 2nd or third defender and can come in for his "drifting in from the side" or speccy mark Luey can be the pinch hit ruck and we have more than enough mozzies/rotating mids/floaters.
Clarke also adds defensive pressure up forward
Defensive 50 is the obvious question mark but would be fun/interesting to see and take some pressure off McStay
I think his reading of the flight of the ball is probably the best out of the youngsters. He has a few marks where no one else went near it and he judged it just fine. I think he will be an asset where ever he ends up forward or back. But at the moment unless we sign up tom hawkins rance and or carlilse we need him up forward.I thought McStay was a little better this week as a forward, although that's not saying much.
However, in his short stint down back there was a mark he took so comfortably, reading the flight so naturally, which suggested to me that in the long term he's going to be a significantly better defender.
