Gawn will dominate in the ruck. And his impact is key to who will win.
It doesn’t matter if Sweet, Vis, or both play.

Gawn will also go forward. And they will kick to him more times than not down the line.

I actually think Esava, around the ground is a better match up, and I’d gamble on effectively using Esava in a negating 1 on 1 ruck/tagging role.

I’d play Sweet (or Vis) and then send him forward after centre bounces. Playing as a target and a big decoy forward - forcing May and/or Lever to man them up. Hopefully giving Georgi, and maybe Jez if he gets a game, more space and better matchups.

Maybe this can be Plan B. But Gawn and his impact on the game - is pretty much the game.

If GWS had a semi decent ruck, we lose last week.

Not really sure what people are expecting him to have said in that presser to make it more interesting? You never get much from any of these pressers, from any other coach in the whole league.

The most refreshing thing is he didn't say something like "we will need to be at our absolute best to have a chance to win this one, Melbourne are a helluva team" even though Melbourne are 14th.

Yup, ppl read far too much into these pressers - especially when asked questions by the reporter. The only time to pay attention is if the coach brings something up himself, without being prompted.

Everything else, you're going to get cookie cutter responses that mean nothing.

Let Gawn win the ruck battle around the ground. Just ensure we come with a game plan that doesn't consist of kicking it to him in every marking contest around the ground.

It's not the ruck battle that we need to worry about - it's the around the ground dominance. We may not kick it to him every contest, but he will make it feel like we are.

Agree with this. The ruck contests are important but what's far more important is running and carrying with the ball and not just blindly kicking it up the ground to Gawn who will kill us.

Overlap handball, run and carry, get Gawn out of position for the kick. I'd rather we scrubber the ball along the ground into the 50 than kick a ball to the hot spot if Gawn is standing there.

Also our ruck being mobile enough to get into a dangerous enough position to drag Gawn away and us being smart enough to lower our eyes and use him.

Our gameplan should be chaos ball on the ground and get our smalls to go to work. This negates the aerial impact of May, Lever and Gawn in their defence and we should just play one tall in MG and go with a full small line up.

I wouldn't mind if parts of the game, Rozee spent time up forward while Burgoyne covered him defensively. Liddy or Lorenz in
