When I heard it I was worried his ego was writing cheques his body couldn't cash, now I'm hoping he wont be sent off to Hong Kong to fly cargo ships full of rubber dog shit (ala Greenwood and Wells!)

OK Maverick :);)

If that keeps happening though, you'd think the lineup will be very different round 22 compared to round 1.

It will be very different either way IMHO. Irrespective of whether we win or lose. This team will look very different come end of season. The club will have a plan beyond throwing every available player in the team from Rd 1 and dumping every over 28 that isn't a gun.

I'm not saying I wouldn't prefer a few things different (I'm on record as saying I think both Durdin and EVW were worth a run already) but I can handle waiting a handful of weeks as we rotate through them. Playing more than the 4-5 new players each week won't tell us much about those new players because they'll get lost in the chaff of us getting obliterated.

We've still got, what 4-5+ players in this week that were not established best 22 last year in Daw, Garner, Simpkin, Hrovat, Williams, Dumont (probably a couple of others). A little bit of patience is needed. I'll be the first to back teeing off if there is no real plan apparent after 6-8 rounds.

Everyone take a chill pill - acting like we are a top team and last week was unexpected.

Like others said earlier in the thread - you've got to back the senior players to bounce back
Or at least give them that chance.
Scotty T can at least snipe tomahawk or danger at least.

The younguns didn't do squat last week - so they are sent back to work on things. They will be given other opportunities.

Great to see garner back and the others as well - they all give us a more dangerous look.

I certainly feel sorry for all of Preuss, Mountford and Hibberd. A great thrill last week to get selected and play their first senior game.

However, if they are feeling hard done by and elect to drop their heads, then before they do so I suggest they have a look (a talk to would be better) the great Michael Tuck. The games record holder until Boomer surpassed him last year, if I am not mistaken he played over 70 VFL reserves games before establishing himself in the seniors at Hawthorn, going on to have a wonderful career. Like the 3 out this week, he too was dropped in the early stages of his career.

Hopefully with these boys the taste will have been so good, that they will knuckle down and work their backsides off to get back in as soon as possible.

No shame in being dropped; many a star player has felt the axe over the years. It is how they react now that is so important.

Sure. Cunners straight back in.

But i'd have dropped Swallow or Gibbo instead. I like both, but they aren't the future and were ordinary last week.

I concur. They just seem more round 17 moves than round 2.

All three dropped will get their chances again.

WTF?

We've got more chance of getting double that amount of goals out of a Daw / Goldy combination. No matter anyone's views on Daw he's the only one out of the 3 (and with Waite out arguably the only forward we have) capable of a 7 goal+ haul.

7+ goals, haha.
I hope you're right but I highly doubt it.

Preuss had two ******* effective disposals last week!! ******* two!

Goldy kicked 3 of the ******* four goals. I know you dislike Daw and that's fine but **** me am over the level to which he is judged in comparison of others. Two ******* effective disposals and you're all over him FFS?

Preuss in about three years will be a gun first ruck- can you hang on that long or will you jump off?

I don't dislike Daw, just think he has no football smarts and the gimmick should end.
Preuss on the other hand will make it as an AFL player and this year especially I'd like to see him along with others get as much game time as possible.

Ps: your question on jumping off is insulting.

I'm sure they may be but I'd rather be bold than safe. Playing near finished players and losing anyway doesn't help us, just puts the reset further back.

Win with them sure, I'm ok with that. Which we can do Sunday, i for one am not writing us off.

You have to laugh that we retired Boomer and Spud, who were playing well, to play the kids and we end up dropping the kids to play Thompson, Hansen, Daw and Mullet (who have collectively been underwhelming, aren't kids and are unlikely to be around if and when we ever are a position to have a crack. They have had an eternity to secure a position in the best side on merit.

Settle down, Hong Kong is full of Aussie Bankers, Pilots and Teachers, not toothless inbreds waving umbrellas and swearing incoherently.

This team is an absolute disgrace.

For a side that is supposed to be rebuilding its list. We have 6 under 23 year old players that have genuine talent in that side. Garner, McDonald, Dumont, Brown, Simpkin and Hrovat...

It's seriously alarming for our future that with the current list position, to only have those 6 players in the side.

Instead of playing Durdin, VW, Clarke and Mountford they are playing Hansen, Thompson, Swallow and Gibson. You know what is the most frustrating part? That despite playing these "senior" players, we will still lose.

Changes are alright, but looking at that 22 on paper is depressing, if this is what we've got to look forward to in this "development" year, im glad im going to Europe for over 7 weeks mid season, dont think I'll be getting the AFL live pass now.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts as well. To me this team looks far too much like 'playing it safe' than it does 'developmental'. We actually did ok against the eagles last week, throwing 3 kids out of the team seems too much for me. I would have liked to have kept both Mountford and Hibberd and allowed them to adjust to the pace and gameplan properly. At the very least we could/should have retained one of them.

I have an uneasy feeling in my stomach that I may have over estimated the likelihood of the selection committee's philosophy changing, something that has been my biggest gripe the last few years.

Perhaps there is a bit of damage minimisation due to playing the Cats who Brad might rate. Im not as angry as some about this. It's not like Ray, NDS, Petrie and Nahas has come in. Garner is a good in, Cunners ditto Daw (as close as we have like for like for Waite) Mullet is the only so-so ones. Would like to see the young guys get another go but I am sure they will soon enough.

Maj would want to perform, his form has been nothing short of shithouse so far this year.

Come on Pykie, you know and so do we, you'll be checking the games out on the AFL website. You wont be able to resist.

They have my money but as far as I'm concerned the club is full of shit at the moment. Sorry but i dont follow blindly.
There's a space somewhere in the middle. If this first week or two is symptomatic of the year, I'm totally with you. For me, it's too early to fully discern a pattern, though I can understand why you and others might draw a conclusion from past behaviour.

I'm disappointed in these decisions mainly because it doesn't set precedent for a cultural change, its poor and self centered on the coaches behalf. And now has the potential to set doubts into the players heads not knowing the direction that Brad is heading. Poor form for a leader!

Yeah I think I could drag 100 plus posts of you saying Maj isn't any good. It is pretty clear you don't like him, so cut the bullshit!!

Massive big tick for Supercoach Scott and the rest of the selection committee this week....Great to see some A grade young talent in Daw and Garner returning to freshen us up.....but by far my biggest cheer is reserved for a rockabilly vagabond with a laser left foot and a heart of gold....Fishy Mullet come on down!
