2 reasons for this.

1. The number of journos made redundant over the last 5 or so years.

2. Consumers attention span has dropped and they only want a 1min read, and don't spend 15mins reading an in depth analysis.

Disagree. The main reason is that the AFL and clubs freeze out anyone who is too critical or does too much digging.

Journalists need the info fed to them by the AFL and clubs to keep writing articles so they don't want to burn those relationships.

There are lost to be concerned about when it comes to these types of selections, but I think there is a bigger issue here.

Whenever we get a new player, they come in and play with a sense of freedom. Dare I say a bit of spunk and enthusiasm. Then we coach it out of them. We end up with a carbon copy of what we already had, rather than what the player was recruited to bring.

Whenever we get a new coach, we get a glimpse of a change in philosophy. Then we somehow manage it out of them. We end up with exactly what we had previously, with the same mistakes made over and over again.

The questions is - how does this lunacy manage to survive despite all the changes??

Of course there's an element of not biting the hand that feeds them, but look at journalism more broadly. It's not just sport where there is a lack of 'investigation'. How often do we see something on the news about an incident and the first investigation is to get a quote from the subjects FB page.

Look. To be fair... the bloke is a legend of the game and a legend of the club.. he gave us all so much to cheer about for all thise years and his record is impecible..


But I just dont think he’s the right bloke to be head of football. I reacon he’d be opinionated and expect his opinion to be listened to and acted upon by everyone below him.. and he would definitely see Nicksy and the rest of the coaching and selection panel as below him.

he loves the club.. theres no doubting that.. maybe that love clouds his decision making.

But he needs to step aside.

If he really loved the club he would allow him and his ego to stand aside. He thinks he is "the answer" which is delusional. Just because you are a great player does not mean that you will make a great administrator. His playing record is without question. I still rate McLeod as our best player to grace our club but Roo would be in my top 5.

That's not a reason to be in the team, it's a basic requirement to play footy at any semi-professional level.

If you're playing wing, you need to get the ball 20-25 each and every week, not once a year.
