Mackay starting... I’m loving this rebuild

It's really quite disturbing that we are able to get a player like David Mackay to nearly 250 games, but can't seem to figure out what to do with Fogarty - a potential match winner.

A better midfield experiment involving Fogarty would be one where he was played in the forward line and we simply instructed/taught our midfield to kick out in front to a lead or at worse, kick to space.

Would also be nice if our Fwd Coachs taught/instructed the fwd line to create space for each other.
Kinda oldschool I know.

Whether we like it or not Fogarty hasn't produced at AFL level either as a forward or mid to demand selection.

3 games is not enough to make that decision, particularly when we are carrying other players with less long term value.

If in 2 games time he was still tracking poorly (even though I'd give him the season) then yes.

If Fog is out I genuinely give up and will refuse to watch us this year.

And Nick's has lost me if that's the case, as it's clear he has no vision for the future or how the hell we are going to win our next flag.
Why? Fog has done nothing to deserve his spot, and nothing to indicate that he'll be a part of our long term future.

Come on, we just picked Mackay. Performance isn't a criteria we are using for selection (and neither is development by the looks of it)

It's what lost us the game, along with being too short down back.

So yes I care.

Trying to 'win' games by structuring up correctly at this stage of our development lacks any long term vision.

I don't care whether we win or lose games this year, I want a bloody flag.

OK and explain why we bring in a 32 year old average player to replace him then? During a rebuilding year ffs...

Well DMac was BOG along with Worrell and Frampton last week so it kinda is

I mean we've brought in a 5 gamer and a 2nd gamer too......

Having the wrong structure hampers development. Doing things like playing Doedee on far bigger opponents harms his development.

Fog out isnt a massive surprise. I dont mind it if he can go back and keep working on his new role.

Apparently only 65% TOG last week. He needs better conditioning and one of the coaches said he needs to work on when to expend his energy and when to save it.

Its a worry that Worrell cant get a look in with no Hamill and no Brown.....whose spot does he take if not those guys? Kelly or Dudes I guess but sheesh.

Unlike you I look at Fogarty objectively, I just hope the midfield experiment is over because if he's to make it at AFL it will be as a forward and unfortunately for Fogarty Himmelberg looked half decent last week and he offers some relief in ruck for ROB.

I'd have him take Kelly's role.

I’m glad he got a decent block of games in the role, but he struggled to get involved after half time. With Sloaney back next week there is no need for the Fog midfield role at afl level until he shows consistent form at sanfl level.

Crows: "Darcy, we want you to play a new role, one you have never played before at AFL level. We'll see how you go"

Fogarty: "Alright, but this will be difficult for me. I've never played that role before, and I suspect it will take some time to work out"

Crows: "No worries, look this is just a development year. We're picking you not because of SANFL form, which let's be honest has been inconsistent, but because we believe you can succeed at the next level and want to develop you there"

* Three weeks later *

Crows: "Darcy. What the hell mate. We expected you to be amazing in just three games! Instead you were pretty poor. **** off. Into the SANFL you go"

Dropping Fogarty and bringing in Mackay

Feels like we've hit the panic button after 2 losses
Feels like they wanted 2 players who could play in defence, and wanted to bring Berry back into the team ASAP.

Mackay isn't replacing Fogarty - Berry is. Mackay & Murray are replacing Hamill & Brown (choose whichever permutation you prefer).

I suspect that Mackay doesn't play if Brown wasn't injured. Fog was being dropped for Berry regardless - and that's a clear upgrade.

I do find it funny that some posters defend Fog to the end of the earth, but want McAdam dropped. Despite being slightly out of form, McAdam is still generally more consistent than Fog and is still young in afl terms.

I wanted Rowe dropped. Some of his efforts were disgusting in the Hawks game.

If by "BOG" you mean "had a lot of disposals on the stat sheet" then sure
