Where's the plan?

Chopping and changing what we want week by week.

Our plan for developing our side should have been locked in during the pre-season

I agree, at this point in our rebuild - we should be focusing on developing how we want to play and how we want to get to a flag. Now is not the right time to be chopping and changing from week to week, based on the opposition - as winning and losing games right now is not important.

I hope they do persist with playing him in the SANFL midfield. It's the best way I can see for them to get him properly fit.

Having said that, their primary instruction to him should be to lay off the protein shakes and lose some of his excess weight. He's carrying 5-10kg of excess musle bulk (not fat). If he loses that, he'd be far more agile, quicker and more mobile. That's his best chance of releasing the quality player inside of his "Incredible Hulk" like body.
He has slim down from last year and will continue to do after another preseason. He will come back in the team as a forward. Really it’s him or Himmelberg in future weeks as Thilthorpe can pinch hit in the ruck.

Here's a quick guess for the game

GWS have brought in Sam Reid, who will play forward and tag Smith. As a result, and exacerbated by poor selections that failed to strengthen our run from defense with Hamill out, this will completely stifle our transition. We will struggle to move the ball out of D50 and 3/4 quarters will be a carbon copy of the second half against Hawthorn last week.

They need a replacement for Brown. Worrall is not it. Neither is Borlase or Macasey or Murray. Jones is still being trialled as a back. There is literally no one else to replace him. This is why we kept Mackay on. We should be glad they had the presence of mind to keep him in reserve because we’d be f’ed otherwise.
They didn’t need to bring in Mackay as they were too short in defence last week anyway.

And it probably was.

Fog was dropped, he didn't perform that well

Why? They were never going to pick 3x 195cm+ defenders in the same team, and Murray has been selected ahead of him all season.

His chance will come, but for now Butts & Murray are ahead of him in the pecking order, and there are only 2x KPD spots available in the team.
Is he a kpd or a third up intercept or a wing?

I could just barely stomach (but not really) dropping Fogarty if we didn't bring back Mackay and looked instead to develop other players like Worrell.

But we did bring back Mackay. It's extremely short sighted of us. Suggests we don't really care that much about using the AFL side as a development tool for players like Fogarty
They're selecting Murray instead of Worrell - a 1 game player instead of a 0 game player. Get over it.

Is it just me or do you think he looks to have bulked up again since that pre-season photos hoot of him where he looked quite lean?

Agree, needs to get on a Soccer players training regime.

I can tell you don't watch the SANFL if you think both play anywhere near a similar game and would be selected over one another

I think he's just got Murray in front of him at the moment. They want to give Murray a decent go for now. I expect that we'll see Worrell in the back half of the season.

Talia will be back by then.

Worrell should have replaced McPherson, who was vying with Brown and Rowe for worst onfield last week.

Who will be sub? Jones would be a terrible call - kid needs SANFL game time to learn his new role.

its Worrell or Jones or or Fogarty or Frampton

yikes

And yet you continue to irrationally defend the club.

Enjoy reading about Mackay on the weekend - what a thrill for you.

FTFY

It's really quite disturbing that we are able to get a player like David Mackay to nearly 250 games, but can't seem to figure out what to do with Fogarty - a potential match winner.
Fogarty needs to start showing something - then, maybe, the selectors will start to show some faith in him.

They've tried him in the forward line, but he doesn't get involved enough (5 disposals is nowhere near enough). They've tried him in the midfield, where he's proven to be little more effective than a witches hat.

End result: Berry comes back from injury, and Fogarty is forced out of the midfield to make space for the up & coming midfielder who has actually shown something.

OK and explain why we bring in a 32 year old average player to replace him then? During a rebuilding year ffs...
We didn't. We brought in an 18yo kid, playing his 6th AFL game.

Mackay is replacing Luke Brown - a 28yo, 172 game veteran.

It’s probably good that Fog goes back to the SANFL. He’s not that far off, just need to know how to find that ball another 9-10 times. He uses the ball at 80-90% efficiency already.

What are you talking about? We've got Mackay in to provide that valuable run and carry and eventual dump kick down the line to an outnumbered contest.

He wasn't doing much in the SANFL before we selected him. So why did we? And why then did our selection criteria change to be performance based after a couple of weeks? Why are we chopping and changing him around?

And most of all: is this what a team should do to develop players?

I'm not convinced Talia will be back until the very end of the year

Guess who's back, back again.

He’s like some sort of non-giving up junktime disposal chasing in the last quarter to get to 17 guy.

Remember there was actually those who thought him being signed on last year didn’t mean he would get games in front of all those youngsters coming through 😂
