Changes Round 11 vs Demons

I think most people would agree our season is in jeopardy. If we get most back from injury apart from Darcy, i think we can still make something of it - But if we lose another couple were cooked. At that stage, we should be saying to Libba, Treloar, and a few others, your season is done, were evaluating youth.
If the club is set on JOD then we MUST do as you say and play him and buss together for the rest of the year. Give them time and experience. Id also say to Buku, tell us your plans for next year. if he wants to stay and the club want him, sign a deal. If not, you in the twos and we play guys that we want to look at.
Guys like Hynes, Charmichael, Kennedy, Dolan etc should all be prioritised to see if they have what it takes., Play Sanders and Hynes in the middle with one of bont and ed. Give them the minutes and let them develop. If it doesnt work, you know at seasons end.
Need to start being more professional as a club and making decisions early like NHL, MLB etc. no more of this being happy with just making the finals/wildcard. its top 4 or nothing. If its nothing, develop kids, delist at years end, draft and reset again with more experience in the kids.

I think making the top 6 is still worthwhile if you can do it. Especially because you'll be highly advantaged in your first match.

Anything below 6 is a waste of time though and you'd be better off finishing as low as possible. We aren't making the 6 so we might as well focus on next year.

We need to bring in Butts, Butters and El Souki as a minimum to have a crack next year.
all depends on whether there's a gap between top four and the rest or if the top 6 is even. if there is a gap, whats the point, but if we finish 6th and have beaten 3 of the top4, sure have a crack. Anything else should be a reset for next year.

Yes Buku is the interesting one, has improved but defensive IQ leaves a little to be desired, though from the sidelines its easy to judge as we don't know how he is being instructed to play.

Disagree with you in relation to Hynes, I am very concerned with his work ethic and desire to attack the ball and man when needed. He is being gifted games as it is but he is not ready for prolonged period of times in the middle and frankly I don't think he has shown enough to deserve it. Not for one minute giving up on the kid but he needs to prove his worth.

Who is Baku?

Do we have the whole Capital of Azerbaijan playing in defence?

100% on Buku. When we had a full list and he was playing as a 3rd tall, he was actually doing great and you could see the improvement in his game. He read the play, joined a contest and marked or spoiled when required like a 3rd should. Once we lost lobb and jod, his game shit the bed because he was forced to play a role he's not made for. He had to play a tall defensive role and was doing that like he was still the 3rd, 15m in front of his man zoning off. When your defending an actual man, you need to close those gaps and angles down, make body contact and control where you want your opponent to go. Either that was his lack of footy IQ or he was instructed to play that way - which is also wrong.

Im not saying i think Hynes will make it. But if were going to evaluate a side and see what we have, we have to give guys like that time. He was drafted as a mid and hes a big body which we will need when libba retires, give him the opportunity. For mine, hes way behind. refuses to kick, is very unsure of his game and fumbles a lot. But hes also playing as a fp/hf more than a mid and is in and out every other week which plays with confidence. GIve the kid extended time. if he doesnt take the opportunity..... see ya.

We're a 1about a 17-20% chance of making top 6 if we beat Melbourne this week.

No use pulling up stumps now. We made finals from as unlikely positions in the 2019, 2020, 2022 seasons.

Certainly not at that stage yet, but a couple more losses and a few more injuries can change things quickly. I'd like to atleast get through one game injury free, seems like we are losing multiple every game.

Of course, but with JOD back this week (and I think he's been a bigger out than the tone of the discussion here, I think he was better to end last year and start this one in my view) there's every chance we find some sort of similar form.

There's 13 games to go - and while I don't disagree with the idea that we can use numerous games for development, I really don't think there's a huge difference in 9 games for development vs 11 or whatever.

In JoD, English/Cleary
Out Williams Emmett/Davidson

Move Buku forward for more marking and scoring. Cleary can take Fritsch. Bramble to the Wing.
Problem with Buku forward, is his forward pressure and tackling is non existent. Too many zero and one tackle games.

Any chance Treloar plays?
If both teams agree to not run or go above a fast walking pace he'd fit in but based on his last game he needs to leave the change room a minute or so before the rest of the team to get to the run through banner at the same time as them

Yes, playing AFL games is better for future AFL performance than playing VFL games
The same reason you are not allowed to play a kid from under 12s in the under 16s is why Emmett should not be playing AFL. It's both dangerous and a waste of time. He needs at the least a season to play against men in the VFL. Imagine what he has gone thru - all his football has been against kids of a similar size and strength to himself - he is a physical stick figure and we throw him in the turmoil of centre bounces against physical beasts. We are not giving him a taste of it, a chance to find his way in a pocket but actually relying on him to help us win the game.

Now, maybe you can try this once - apologise to the kid and plan out his development in the VFL - then when he has some form in the VFL maybe try it again after 10 weeks. To repeat this cruelty consecutively 5-6 times - proves that the entire match committee under Beveridge is both incompetent and delusional.

Saw Will Minson on the Front Bar last night, he looks in better condition than most of our players, can we bring him back on a game by game contract?

Haha not the worst idea. Bevo didn’t want to play him when he was 30 and still near his prime though
