Preview Changes round 22 v Carlton

Eughhhhhh

* Collingwood, but also a shitty defensive effort. ANB seemed slow and tried too hard to take on tackles. Until his goal late was sloppy. Maybe a swap for Harmes?
I dunno, doesn't feel like we necessarily had bad individuals but as a team let them through too easily. Bloody good game but with a decent clearance team coming up we'll need more ways to score.

Harmes in for Sparrow, JVR in for someone. I don't know who, as I want Brayshaw in the middle still, but * just give the kid a go and see if he can at least force a contest. I just don't see how we compete this year with Brown as our sole KPF

No idea wtf we do with that forwardline. If the blokes down there can't get it done, then Joel Smith, Chandler or an untried JVR or Laurie aint making any difference. Probably Harmes for Sparrow or Melksham. That seems about it really.

I bet Goody plays it safe and backs our system to win. That might be enough to win the next two games but I think we need to be tweak our lineup to capitalise on our midfield dominance if we're any chance to win another flag.

We need a second KPF alongside Brown. I'm all for JVR being given a shot or we can go completely Hail Mary and put J Smith up forward. Both of their jobs should be to purely compete in the air. I'd have one of those in for Melk, as decent as he's been recently.

I also think we need one more damaging half forward who can actually hit up a player in space. I'd bring in Chandler for Sparrow. I don't think Sparrow is doing enough as a flanker, and isn't in the midfield as much now Gus is our 4th banana in there.

So for mine, it's JVR or Smith and Chandler for Melk and Sparrow.

I think Harmes will come in for Spaz. Chandler a chance for sub I reckon. I like Chandler but is he going to offer more than our other small forwards? I don't know.

Whilst I appreciate the epic forward pressure has been a key part of why we're in the top 4 mix, I think our forward line balance is off. I think we need two talls, two mid sizers, two smalls - and if I have to squeeze somebody for JVR/JSmith to get a run, I think it's unfortunately Spargo.

I also think we're missing a bit of compsure in the backline - I feel we need to get Bowey back in, at the expense of either Rivers or Hunt. Again, they're stiff perhaps, but them's the breaks.

Finally, we need Chompers in the team. Allows us to give Braysh more time in defence if needed, or Trac more time up forward if needed. Jordon or Sparrow have to make way. Again, stiff.

No way Melksham for Brown. At least Melksham isn’t getting shoved around like a 16 year old playing his first game in the seniors for the pines. Brown is useless. Harmes I agree with.
Brown despite some ordinary moments had 2.2 and 7 marks. Melksham just want involved at all. I want two talls in this week.

Agree re Brown, disagree re Melksham. He is playing his role. Was a quiet night for Fritta

No wholesale changes at this point.

It was a good game and we should have stamped it out late in the second/early in the third after a dominant first half.

I thought Melksham was ok in his role of what looked like a defensive forward role to stop Moore impacting too many airial contests.

Can see Goodwin going with Sparrow or Rivers out to get Harmes back in.

Sparrow is a sacred cow that needs slaying. Doesn’t go when it’s his turn anymore. For a pressure mid/HFF to have zero tackles in a high intensity game when a better player in the same role is wearing the vest is an indictment.

Agreed. Now Gus is back in the midfield mix, that means there's even less mid time for Sparrow.

I really like Sparrow as a prospect but he's not a great flanker or pressure player. I'd much prefer either a specialist small forward in his role, or another tall forward target.

We don’t have a specialist small forward. We have small forwards, but they aren’t special. The fact our KPF gets shoved under the ball every contest definitely doesn’t help them, however.

There is a difference between specialist and special.

Kozzie is a specialist small forward ... and can be special, too ;)

We’ve got a whole bunch of small forwards desperate for a chance. Maybe they’ll bring the pressure. Goody sounded annoyed for the first time in his presser, time he grows a set and drops some favourite sons like Sparrow and Spargo. Brown not great but nowhere near as bad last night as people are making out. Spargo and Kozzy have themselves to blame.
