No. Hence why he can only be played as a ruck that rests forward.
Happy if Lobb does that.
I reckon McCarthy should get a reprieve. No one in the forward line played well, I don't know why he is singled out.

You don't want to go in tall against Richmond so I'm happy for Lobb to have one last go in the ruck. Not sure he's much value if he isn't playing ruck anyway.

OUT: Colyer IN: Blakely. He ain't flashy but it's obvious the role Conca plays in the team. I've got no idea what it is that Colyer is supposed to be doing. Barely remember him using his pace at all.
I want McCarthy to play against the tigers.

Richmond are missing Rance, Cotchin and riewoldt. Alex Pearce goes on Lynch. Someone has to stop Martin.

I don't mind Lobb as a resting ruckman. I don't care if he gets double teamed if that means McCarthy kicks 4-5 goals. If Cam gets dropped that's fine. Need the talls to dominate this game.

Ed Langdon is a favourite of mine but his kicks inside 50 are so loopy they are really hurting us maybe try this

Out - Colyer , Swita and Cam Mac

In - Cox , Duman and Blakely

Ed as small fwd to keep the pressure on and give Duman a crack on the wing for some more penetration by foot

McCarthy ? You are either a running machine who can get on the end of others good work or you need to be able to win your own ball

He's neither , probably would've been a good player 10 years ago but it seems like the mercurial type players are getting pushed out of the game if they can't adapt and add more strings to their bows

Don’t think we were outbodied. Fyfe, Mundy and Tucker did great.

Feel this is reasonable.

Not when Fyfe + Mundy were in I agree. When one was out, especially fyfe, I thought they were able to clear it from congestion a little to easily which is probably a strength of theirs.

In any case I think we can all agree Blakely will add something.

Cox might not have dominated but he did play in a defence that dominated and he did things that you say just wow . There was a play down the wing where he won the ball and then did a side step that a big guy shouldn't be able to do and then delivered a lace out worm burner pass. Cox is to good for the WAFL and needs to be in the seniors. He can also take a good contested mark something that has deserted Cam.
Blakely is a no brainer so Cox and Blakely in . Cam and Mr invisible Colyer out.

Players gave their all, but this game highlighted our lack of composure trying to set up, control the tempo when we had the ball. Plenty will
Give me heaps for that type of thinking and shout out it was a finals style game.
But a score so low won't amount to anything, and if we want to play this way you need more contested players. Cox playing gives us a
Forward, ruck, defender, and allows Lobb to go forward to pinch a few goals.
Hogan, McCarthy, need to roam, on the move to shine with the ball kicked out front, they were wasted against the Crows, cop the blame
but that is fingernail depth analysis.
Cox, Blakely are too good for wafl, but that type of delivery, forward set up is still our weakest link.

out: McCarthy, Brayshaw
in: Darcy, Blakely

Lobb to the forward-line in place of the invisible man, McCarthy, Darcy to first ruck.
Blakely an upgrade in the midfield.

Richmond don’t have many tall forwards and have a lot of quick smalls. Dangerous for our big ground.

Maybe hamling has a rest, clearly injured, and we bring in blakely to go to the middle and the likes of Conca / Cerra have more time rotating back

Can’t see too many changes except changes to make us quicker and give guys a rest if fatigued or niggling injuries

Out- McCarthy, Collyer
In- Blakely, Darcy

Lobb to go forward, Blakely to half back, Cerra to stay in the guts. Conca as cover for both off the bench.

Hi all,

On a game related note, I can't help but feel this isn't going to end well for us if we play like we did on the weekend.

Early whispers we might be missing Rioli and Vlastuin as well, could be 1,200 games + of experience missing for us!

All the best for this weekend!

Not going in it lightly. Hell, Port did that and you managed a famous victory. Your injury list is really truly awful. Rance and Riewoldt but add Cotchin and Rioli looked really sore. That’s your best defender, best forward, best inside mid and best small forward. Honestly that’s tough.

I think Lyon will have learnt from Ports mistake if that makes sense.

Yeah it's not a great looking injury list, but it is what it is. I'd be very shocked if Rioli played.

Doesn't help when other blokes who are on the park are badly out of form too (Martin / Lynch)

Out - McCarthy, Colyer
In - Cox, Blakely

I'm torn on Darcy & Lobb. Clearly Lobb is not providing us with any advantage at stoppages or centre clearances but our defence is absorbing that and we are countering from that. Lobb can cover the ground really well, but can be worked over physically and then his athleticism does from his game. Darcy in my opinion is nowhere near mobile enough to carry an entire game, but at least he'll make a contest at stoppages.

I also hate Taberner pinch hitting in the ruck, it sucks the life from him.

We really need to figure out what Cox is and commit to developing him, he is showing some special abilities but of all the players on our list, I'd say he's the one who most needs exposure to develop.

I understand the frustration and temptation to point the finger at some of the forwards and think that dropping 'player x' will fix all our problems, but that's just not realistic or accurate.

The reality is that Adelaide defended exceptionally, and set up behind the ball really well all day (just as we did). There was a lot of dirty ball coming in, and even when we had our chances going forward we didn't execute the kick. At times we simply panicked.

McCarthy was literally 'best on' just over a month ago and is still ranked in the top 30 forwards in the AFL, Matera kicked 9 goals in the two weeks leading up to yesterday, Hogan is a Ferrari and Walters is elite. Swita had a difficult day, but still managed 6 tackles and needs the chance to grow and learn - he's shown decent signs in the previous 3 weeks.

I sometimes have to remind myself that we're still in a rebuild and dumping players like Brayshaw and Cerra just stalls this.

Blakely's game at Peel deserves reward and is clearly best 22, and surely Darcy and Cox are close. They are all important for the rebuild. It's also pleasing Schultz was busy on the weekend and clearly wan't to put his best foot forward. Shows great fortitude of character. If he keeps knocking, eventually they'll have to open the door. Logue got through as well...baby steps.

I totally agree with previous posters that Richmond cover the ground really well, so dropping Colyer would be a risk, but jeez he'd want to start getting to more contests. Just the 11 for him this week. He's a really handy player and great to have on the list, but turns 28 this year so I'm not sure how much of a part of the rebuild he'll be here for. I'd be asking him to go pack to Peel and get Blakely's numbers and force his way back in.

Taberner needs to sort out what's going on in his head. His brain-farts are weekly now, and after 7 years in the system should know better. They are getting worse. It can't be long before Ross gets sick of them. If he sorts them out he has a really good career ahead of him, if not he's as useful as a Casboult or Butcher.

Lots to look forward to next week and confident we'll bounce back at home and give a really strong showing.

IN: Blakely
OUT: Colyer.

A couple of thoughts after reading some gibberish in here.

Switta - One howler after a terrific game and we are calling for his head? Where is our defensive pressure from up front going to come from without him?
Brayshaw - Possibly his best game of the season yesterday and we are going to drop him? Give me a spell. Yeah his kicking is poor but he is starting to get his hands on the ball more and his attack and pressure around the contest is terrific.
Cerra - By no means am i advocating dropping him but i thought we seen yesterday why he isn't playing big midfield minutes. He doesn't have the tank to play full time in the midfield for mine. His two way running when he was in the middle yesterday was not ideal and it wasn't through lack of effort.
Cox for McCarthy - Does it concern anyone else that this leaves us with a trio of Cox, Tabs and Hogan all of which has ZERO confidence in their kicking?

Out: McCarthy
In: Blakely

Play Blakely as a mid and put Walters back in the forward line where he belongs, with occasional stints in the middle for impact. Blakely can switch with Cerra at half back.

If any of the defenders are sore, Duman comes in unless it is Hamling / Pearce then Cox plays back.

If a mid is sore, Duman comes in and Conca goes into the middle.

If Hogan or Tabs is sore, Cox plays forward, I would still drop Cam back to Peel until he is right. Schultz played well at Peel and is next in line if a small forward is sore.

That was an insanely intense game, and it wouldn't surprise me if one or two struggle to come up, but otherwise I wouldn't change too much. Our issues are more maintaining structure and composure under pressure than manpower, let's back them in and give them time together to gel.

I thought it was Brayshaw's best game for us given he only played 60% of it. He used the ball a bit better by foot and was standing under high balls with more confidence. They are clearly still managing his loads carefully, but if he progresses to consistent game time of around 80% he'll be accumulating 25+ disposals regularly.

Out: Colyer, Tabs
In: Blakely, Darcy

I've had enough of Tabs, attack me if you want

I think we need Lobb out of first ruck and Darcy in.
Then the issue becomes choosing three out of Lobb/Tabs/Hogan/Cam/Cox to play forward and 2nd ruck. I don't think we can carry four of them in the one team, so two miss out
I reckon if you look at that list we only play one of Tabs or Lobb, they are the most similar to one another.
So if Darcy starts to make the ruck spot his own sooner or later I reckon it's going to come down to a choice of playing Tabs or Lobb as the 2nd ruck/forward. So out Tabs is going to be in the thinking, either that or out Lobb. Maybe not this week, but if Darcy comes good like we hope, it will.

One thing i don't like about Andy is that he occasionally bites off more then he can chew by foot.

Once yesterday (and he has done it a few times recently) he has come in board by foot and tried to pin point a pass but given the lack of penetration / power in his kicking given it back and cost us the other way.

He chews with his foot?? Is this a result of that coward Gaff?

Happy if Lobb does that.

Yeah he'd probably go alright as a 2nd ruckman. I just don't think he's better than Tabs/Hogan at the forward part so you aren't really gaining much if you play him there and drop one of those two.
