I've been pretty pessimistic all week but if the ins are Hogan/Garlett/Kent/Smith then we should be winning this.

Good ins but Carlton are playing pretty good football, go through their results, much improved on last year when they handed our arse to us after the Hawthorn win. No melts from me if we dont get up this week. So long as the effort is there, what will be wil be.

Yeah I won't be melting either, I can see Carltons midfield running rampant. Just think we've got enough quality now that we 'should' win, but it is still an even game.

I think will a fully fit team Hogan should play as a CHF. He has a huge tank and really good field kicking.
Yeah, I tend to think with what we have Hogan as CHF, just to make sure he gets his hands on the ball and gets into the game a bit, and Petracca as deep might work, stick McDonald on the wing.

You're far too balanced and measured these days. Are you mellowing in your old age?

Found something new to yell and scream about, my mrs cooking.

If the effort is there we absolutely should be winning, it's a good side that we're putting on the park.

normally i'd be very concerned about midfield pace but I don't think Carlton have a lot of pace through the middle. Cripps and Oliver are similar and I wouldn't say that Murphy is all that quick, maybe Gibbs will give us some headaches.

Wouldn't mind seeing Vince do a run with role with him, think whoever out of Docherty and Gibbs that isn't tagged will run riot. Would love to have Brayshaw available atm, his best is probably enough to negate Tyson being injured

It's really bad timing for him ... this is just the opportunity he needs, the prime movers are out injured, giving him plenty of time in the guts. I reckon it would have really been the making of him. Oh well.

It's an interesting game because we have had key players out all season, and Goodwin has found ways to manoeuvre matchups throughout a game until we can clamp down the opposition and get a run on.

Last week we were totally knackered and hit out peak number of injuries for the season, not to mention we were playing a very good team in Sydney.

This week we have some of our forward line back. And Goodwin will no doubt come up with some elaborate midfield rotation and planning that will include Lewis, Vince, Neal-Bullen, Harmes and Hannan more often than they would most other weeks.

I can see it working, Carlton is not Sydney, they will drop off in their level of play at times, so if we bring our intensity for four quarters then surely we win this.

We are still a good chance of winning, putting my money on Carlton @ $3 doesnt mean i think we will lose, it means i thought Carlton are well over the odds. I dont bet with my heart, i bet with my head. Blues into $2.30 now the last time i checked btw. #valuetown

Exactly. That's the correct way to look at it, except when it comes time to put my carefully considered bets on, I scratch my chin and decide to go down the stupid path anyway.

Melksham has played that role really well since they sent him there, sick of people wanting him dropped every week when he is chipping in with a goal and shutting his man down.

As much as I'd like to see it, it can't happen. He'd either have to be dropped, picked, dropped, picked, dropped, picked, dropped, etc, or perhaps AFL > VFL > Dev league > U18s > U16s > U14s > U12s > Auskick > umpiring... or something.

we will know in the first 5 minutes if the dees will win.
if they immediately start bombing to hogan in the goal square with 5 blokes on him, im switching off.

Or if the ball spends the first 5 mins in carltons forward 50

The good thing about that is ... we'll now have TMac and Pedo down there who are good contested marks in their own right, so there is no need to just bomb to Hogan every time, as there is 3 genuine options. The best we've done previously is having Watts (whose strength is out smarting his opponent rather than out muscling him) and Weideman (who I don't think anyone had much confidence in winning the contest) I think this is probably our most dangerous forward line this year, which is amazing to say without Watts.

This is a pretty similar situation to last year: playing Carlton in a game that we must win to stay in the finals race.

Last year the very issue was the effort, it appeared. If we bring it tomorrow, I agree with the ins we should win. Although Hogan is a real unknown at this stage.

Petracca deep with Hogs high is a great structure imo. Problem being that we'll need trac in the guts for a fair bit if we are to be competitive in there.

Agreed - we'll know in the first 5-10 mins

Just FYI we are playing on Sunday :P

What was the actual story again? Did he not inform the club about it when it happened?

Reckon that MFC page mixup is legit, it'll be Hogan/Smith/Kent/Garlett in. Topkent its time for our boy to show something over the next month otherwise he'll be looking at the rest of the year in the magoos.

I mean seriously Goodwin should be saying 'boys! This is the time to be in the team because you might be in Melbourne first finals side in a decade'
Kent is good enough to be first 22. He needs to sort it out

Petracca and Mcdonald can rotate deep. I'd tell Hogan to never be deep unless he feels he has a mismatch. Outside of that on ya bike son and come at the ball carrier

Oh lol, not happy about that. I'm gonna got to the G in my dees gear anyway and stir up some pies and bombers flogs. Actually I'm okay with it, feels less foreign than last week's Friday night foray

Yeah that's it. Actually Pedos not a bad option deep to be frank.
