I'm maybe in the minority on this one but I don't love Colby in the guts. I think he's too small for a modern AFL midfield.

How's he going to effectively stop a Bontempelli or Cripps when it's his turn to go? He's 5'11 and weighs 80kg wet.

He's talented and useful elsewhere.

If size was the metric then you would never play the likes of Neale, N Daicos, McCluggage and Pickett against those players either. I'm talking CBA's where it's all twitch muscles, reflexes and separation speed. Same reason Hawks run Watson through there.

We do have a history of mucking around unnecessarily with player development.

I think that we need to stick with Dovaston for a stretch. We need a small forward who can threaten for goals. He hasn't shown it yet but the ability is there.

AO and KP are both narrower, longer grounds than Marvel (or the MCG).

5-10m longer than the grounds in Vic and most grounds.

Both smaller overall tho, and the original post was talking about AO as if it was bigger than what we're used to.

Its longer than we're used to. Our kicks were going shallow inside 50 at times. Plus a bit narrower and a bit less space means a motivated team can shut down options and create pressure easier. Even more of an issue at Geelong.

Agree, thinking we give him 6-7 years to learn. Daicos, Neale and Pickett had at least 10 years of experience before playing well.

We have form when it comes to drafting players for a certain position and then "developing" them elsewhere, like our KPD Dawson that has over night become a 30% TOG ruck

Agree though the reason I think we can't play Kerch in the midfield is just because he doesn't play accountably enough, and our midfield already lacks defensive consistency.

Because he is not a defender and his influence is vastly superior moving into the forward 50. Actually, lets pop him in defence along with LDU and Harry, pop Xerri at CHB and Curtis in a BP.

Assume you have never actually watched them play. All of them are solid defenders, Colby is not. Also glad we are taking players who can hit a target inside 50 away, doing a bang up job so far
