I would feel the same way, but damn has his age gotten away from him. Definitely has courage, heart and balls but you might be overrating his pace and skills. In the years he spent lost in the wilderness with a stuffed knee he went from zippy youngster to genuine plodder, finds space because he reads the play well and works hard.

could have had a much stronger career had it not been for injury. Sadly though, even if he could offer more than Wright, VB, Mackay on any given week he's still just as much a stop-gap in the grand scheme of things.

If his dodgy goal kicking was fixed I think he could be a good Sub.

Don't remember Martin ever letting us down. Has pace, courage and is all heart. Never upset to see him selected. Has skills and the balls to take the game on.

Agreed...would think Atkins and Lyons in for VB and CEY...like for like, and would prefer Martin to Wright just to give us a bit more run. Really thought Cheney would come straight back in actually...from what I've seen he reads the play well and doesn't drop his head (I'm assuming it's really the height match-up's we've brought Shaw into the squad for - and Pods for that matter). Either way, I'm not too disappointed with these changes.

Pre/post game celebrations aside, I couldn't be less interested in this game.

I don't want to be a doomsdayer, but the script is predictable. Half their team will have career best games, just you watch.

It will be the usual story, we'll bleed early goals. We'll come back in the 2nd and hit the front, but port will then go on to win by about 5 goals.

If VB was a definite best 21 all season, surely you are outraged when he is dropped after putting in a similar performance last Saturday under very difficult circumstances?

I did think he was stiff to be dropped after only one average game.

Yeah. The quality of his kicking has dropped significantly. When he first got to the club, I thought he was one of our better kicks.

If he had nailed more of those shots last year he probably would have been selected a few times this season.

I'd rather him in the front half.

I love him taking the game on but occasionally it's a bit ridiculous, whereas a Jaensch type is a little more circumspect. He'd be like a Pittard in that respect.

One on one, he's pretty poor imo when he's the defender in the back 50. As an opposition coach I'd isolate him deep. This isn't due to lack of intensity though (unlike Henderson), so his defensive/contesting work around the ground as a mid is ok.

Sure I wouldn't want him in defence but I don't want Mackay there either. Unfortunately we could probably add Henderson to the above list even though I've traditionally been a fan.

I cant believe journalists and various footy show panel members are shocked by vb's demotion. They obviously havent watched us play all year or have rose coloured glasses on like nt rabbit.

I'm happy VB is out. Give him a month to find some form. If he doesn't, he doesn't play. Simple. Probably Martin in for him, who can play pretty much anywhere on the field, and certainly will do a better job of whatever VB was trying to do.

CEY I can understand given Campo's explanation of two quarters in three weeks. Could've just as easily done it in the firsts, but Atkins deserves a go.

IMO Mackay and Wright should go out for Lyons and Pods*. Lyons has been playing too well in the magoos and hopefully can get a few weeks playing inside mid, and probably as a small forward, he can find the goals. I say Pods over Samshaw because we need a contested mark in F50. He's the best we've got, and at least can more often than not bring the ball to the ground where our smalls like Eddie, Jets and Jenkins () can take advantage. I know Pods for Wright isn't like for like but I think we can use the height to stretch their defense, and Pods can swing back if need be also. Martin, Atkins, Knight, Lynch and Charlie can all play through the wing at various stages.

So my changes;
In: Martin, Atkins, Lyons, Pods
Out: VB, CEY, Mackay, Wright

*These are the least likely to happen, or Lyons will come in rather than Martin.

We can fit Lyons and Rat in for VB and CEY but id almost give Pods a game instead of Wright. Provides similar (minimal) defensive efforts but can take a grab and kick a goal.

A few people would lose their marbles should he be picked, but as far as form goes he's as good as any we have. Or do we persist with Wright until Kedge or Grigg are ready to go ??

In the Crows v Magpies SANFL games Pods manhandled Clurey with ease. If they bring him in Clurey is his most likely opponent.

We have an actual advantage there. Stretching their backline for height and size. With decent ball delivery it could be a match winner. Would also take Westhoff from the forward line if these guys can get on top of their defenders. I would rather Hoff playing loose across HB than loose up forward kicking goals.

The flipside is we lose a mid/smaller player. Although if that is VB we effectively lost him ten weeks ago anyway his form has been so poor.

I would roll the dice on this and have Atkins or Martin as sub.
