I get that, one of those 5 had to be sub, but it was what Gus didnt do in the quarter he was on that makes me questions how fit he is.Surely if there was any doubt then Young would have got the call up. Probably has more to do with 5 underdone players being 1 too many for comfort and Gus was the obvious choice out of Wingard, Hartlett, Trengove and Ryder.
Burgo aint on the selection committee. He might not have been asked - can Redo go 90% of the game time in the ruck? That is fully match fit. Burgo was probably asked a few different questions and based on his answers things were balanced up.You could be right here about Kenny... However I don't really see Burgo as a risk taker and I am pretty sure this side of things comes down to his call, not so much Kenny's.

I know he isn't on the selection committee, but there is no way Kenny would be picking a player than Burgo hasn't endorsed to be fit enough to run out a game.Burgo aint on the selection committee. But you are stuck in this mindset that he has to be able to spend 90% of time on the ground going flat out like a mid fielder. He doesnt. Ken and co. would go to Burgo with a few scenarios. Burgo would say which ones Redo could handle completely and which ones he wouldnt. Then Ken and co. have to make decision about how much risk they want to take.I know he isn't on the selection committee, but there is no way Kenny would be picking a player than Burgo hasn't endorsed to be fit enough to run out a game.
I never had it stuck in my mind that he was going to play 90% as a flat out midfielder dude. I said you could confidently assume he could run out the full game if it was required, otherwise they wouldn't pick him. However that full game certainly does not mean he has to ruck the entire game and not spend spells up forward resting and on the bench. But you are stuck in this mindset that he has to be able to spend 90% of time on the ground going flat out like a mid fielder. If the base scenario is we want him to start in the forward pocket be able to put pressure on his defender for the first 20 minutes, then ruck the last 8 to 10 minutes of the quarter, then for the next 2 quarters we mix it up between forward line and the bench but has to ruck for 8 to 10 minutes for both of those 2 quarters then subbed off for the last, then Burgo has obviously said yes. If the extreme scenario is that he has to ruck 90% of the game then I reckon Burgo would have said no. So the selection committee then assess the risk of the in between scenario's happening and Burgo probably has in put into that.
If Ryder goes off the ground for the rest of the game after 5 minutes of play then I have no doubt we will be stuffed and Redo will be extremely fatigued in the last quarter.. But what is the percentage that is going to happen? 1%? Ken would be prepared to take that risk IMO.
