He certainly was terrible on Sunday. I'm struggling to recall a single clean possession or any redeeming feature of his last game. That said, it can happen to young players, but he certainly wouldn't want another game like that. Personally I'd drop him, he needs to halt the slide before it becomes an avalanche.
He was rank but I'd rather they persisted. I thaught Gov looked cooked at Simonds but he bounced back. Think Atkins provides something not many can produce. Needs a good game pronto though.

Forgot we don't have a SANFL game, great that will really stuff Wigg around. Maybe Tex rests another week, ankles seem to pull up ok or you miss 2/3 weeks.

That really is a good question. How long should they give players who are out of form?

Senior players are generally given greater latitude. The selectors know what they're capable of, and that the problem is probably going to be temporary, so they're given time to ride out the storm.

Younger players aren't necessarily given as long. This is where the real man management comes into play. It could be that the player is just going through a rough patch, in which case they'll probably persevere. It could be that they've been found out, and need to go back to the SANFL to work on some things. It could also be that the player is "cooked", particularly at this time of the year (i.e. towards the end of the season). The hard part is knowing which is which.

The selectors could have been forgiven for dropping McGovern after the Geelong game. It was easily the worst game by a Crows player this year - and that includes anything & everything that VB & Dmac have achieved. 2 disposals - 1 kick, 1 handball, and the kick went out of bounds on the full. He also managed to concede 2 frees against. Even VB and Dmac at their worst haven't gone close to reaching those dismal lows. Instead, the coaches showed faith in him and continued to select him. He rewarded them big time, with the best performance of his career to date.

Tex was out. He'd already played 17 games in the structure. He would have been mopey at his video run through, that's for sure. In the forward set up I think they get longer than other sectors.

The Tex injury probably saved McGovern from that very poor performance although I was more concerned with his efforts in the previous weeks rather than the Geelong game. We were totally out-coached in that game, I'm not surprised McGovern had no idea what was going on.....neither did the rest of our forward line or midfielders. I think overall our selection for most of the year has been pretty good I think with the exception of round 1 (the absence of Hartigan).

Out sauce, Mackay
In: Menzel & Rob

Mackay wasn't bad on the weekend, but will he stand up? Don't think so tim

Menz is a guy who makes things happen, and in finals where moments happen you need inspiration

He doesn't have to be involved all the time, he has to take his moments.

We've seen him do just that for Carlton. Playing a safe plodder over him will not serve us well when we're in the trenches looking for a moment or a play to break things open

Menzel....... really ??

So Charles and Menz are mixing it up? Dougie goes to Mackays role?

Another bye? Can the SANFL just **** off?
Maybe one of the reasons for our low injury rate is that the SANFL team has byes once a month?

Douglas seemed to play a bit more midfield last week. I'd like to see Menz moved into that Douglas forward role since I think it's a bit of a waste of Dougy and not to his strengths.

Agree that Menz could play Dougies role. I'm also thinking SANFL is more of a bunched up cluster funk re trying to get a form line on how he'd be able to create in AFL.

They are seriously screwing Wigg around. Didn't we have an SANFL bye directly after the last game he missed due to emergency duties? Too professional a coaching group for it to be accidental, too stupid for it to happen again for it to be deliberate. I honestly don't know what to think.

Menzel that is Hilarious

For the most part I thought Rat was ok. Got it a bit, but did compleyely butcher it by foot, which is normally his strength. Still a kid, but certainly didn't have trouble finding it which is half the battle. Would need at least a couple more like that before he becomes part of the discussion. Especially considering latitude shown to players whose experience should have removed games like that from their repertoire.

Anyone who thinks we drop Atkins is insane. There are so many other players that should be on the chopping board before him it's not funny. In fact I'd probably drop about half our team before I even considered dropping Atkins.

Rowey said on AA today that Thommo will be rested. He sounded certain. Not that that means anything though.

Couple that with the fact he said, "Really?" <mopey voice>, when Bicks said VB will struggle to get back into the side and you realise Rowey really has NFI and should take the blinkers off once in a while. I would have looked like a psycho at that moment cos i was yelling at the radio.

I would hope he's rested.
