I was in favor of resting McGovern at some point this year but this is the worst possible time for it.. he has finally found some really good form.

Surely we could give him another week to keep gaining confidence and then rest him?

Meanwhile I'm willing to bet money that Tex is still carrying something and won't crash a single pack.
They want him fresh to go to WA (home state)

In what way was I wrong, The Coaches pick him because he versatile, Does not make him a good player but gives them options, Not too many other players give the same level of versatility.

Wing and HBF are interchangeable.

He's not playing forward.

So who are the players left on the "Why oh why are they still in the team" list ... is it just down to Mackay and Douglas?

Who is the guy being left out that everyone is screaming to see in the 1's? CEY? Wigg? Grigg? Menzel? I mean, there has been some chatter about these guys but not anyone demanding to be included ... has there?

A bit surprised to see McGovern out, but he's listed as "managed", which is code for "rested". They didn't use the word "omitted", which is what they do if a player has genuinely been dropped.

I guess it makes sense if you think about it. I suspect they were planning on resting him for last week's game, as his previous month had been fairly ordinary. I wouldn't be at all surprised if his recovery feedback was along the lines that he was becoming exhausted. Then Walker got injured, so they couldn't rest him after all. Walker's back this week, which just means that McGovern gets his well earned rest a week later than they originally planned.

He has and can play in the forward line, problem this year has been his shit kicking for goals 2-10, when he had a run up there. Watch some of his games,
Problem is he will be in the side until all our small backs hit top form. Or our back up inside outside runners that can play defensive put it beyond a doubt. which nobody is. Remember MacKay is very good at positional play off the ball.
CEY needed to do one thing this year and he would have played 10 plus games. Work hard on his defensive game off the ball. he did not therefor MacKay played more games. As it stands Wigg playing a few game as a defensive small along with good runs on the ball has given himself a chance to push MacKay out. next year.

Does anyone else think we should rest Brad crouch before finals ? Have him cheery ripe or will the week off before finals suffice ?

When is the last time he played 13 games straight without getting injured ?

Honestly how on earth is 400kay still getting a game? You can not tell me playing Wigg in that position isn't more beneficial to the team.

Yay for ROB and CEY though

Also McGovern is bloody stiff plays his best game and gets dropped, poor form AFC

Mackay will never be dropped in favour of a junior player being promoted from the SANFL. It simply won't happen. I reckon that whilst they have legitimate ways to do it, the selectors will avoid choosing between Seed and Mackay. Unless either has a shocker this weekend, they'll both line up against Freo. Port game might orde their hand if no injuries occur because we won't be resting anyone for that game.

Agree. Let Gov build on his newly found confidence and give Tex a further weeks break before launching on his finals campaign.

Nope he's had enough resting

Seed is the ideal player for the long deck at subi and also finals at MCG

I guess my confusion comes from McGovern not getting dropped after the Geelong game on form , plays against Essendon and shows a spark of life. Then he is dropped after showing what he can do. Dropped/managed/rested is all the same. If he got dropped after Geelong it would have been in the interests of resting anyway.

Good to have the Texican back. Your turn for 6

Was Thommo dropped? It's actually pretty logical. Shooter needed a rest, first year, every game, big hit but Tex's injury put it off a week. He kicked 4 in an 82 point win as last marking forward standing. It doesn't mean he doesn't still need a rest.

On a side note, are all the 'anti-resters' now going to claim the players listed as 'managed' have actually been dropped?

-CEY 4th in line this week
Did you see McGovern being "rested", to make way for Walker? Thought not. Henderson presumably not fit. Came down to a choice between Wigg & CEY. Turned out to be 3rd option, instead of 4th. I can live with that.
-CEY not in the top 30 players at the AFC
29th player used this year.

Still think Menzel, Hampton and several others would be ahead of him if they weren't injured (or returning from injury). Think I'll stand by that call - CEY still not in the top 30 players at the AFC. Correct then, correct now.
-CEY not in the coaches plans
Only came in as a result of them deciding to rest Thompson. Still not even close to being in the best 22. Probaby won't play again this year. Think I'll stand by that as another correct call. Correct then, correct now.

Regarding Mackay v Milera v Wigg ....it's not a comparison of who's better
They have different roles, different attributes and different levels of experience

Milera IMO is going to be a champion, which Mackay is obviously not ...... But I've said the team is already inexperienced, and so how much more do you introduce without systems breaking down in finals

Wigg could also be a good player, but he's not a Mackay link player type - Milera is probably closest to what Mackay brings & is his obvious replacement at some stage
They're not like for like but they can feasibly be shuffled into the team instead of him.

I don't like the experience argument, I think this is a very dangerous assumption to make. Mackay was, without doubt, a liability in the Hawks semi final last year. Absolutely no doubt. If someone like Milera had been there instead, would we have lost structure - yes I know he wasn't on our list yet but you see my point.

Experience isn't intrinsically a good thing. It is normally a good thing because usually only good players keep getting games. Average ones get left behind. So experience isn't the reason Mackay got all these games.
