Feel for Wigg here. He misses last week's SANFL game as our emergency, Curley dominates and leap frogs him as a result.

Now Wigg has a bye.

Misses 2 games in a row.

Poor strategy from our team selections again.

He really needs to be in for Douglas or Mackay.

Happy for CEY though. He's deserved another crack. What do we do if he gets 40 possessions?

Was Thommo dropped? It's actually pretty logical. Shooter needed a rest, first year, every game, big hit but Tex's injury put it off a week. He kicked 4 in an 82 point win as last marking forward standing. It doesn't mean he doesn't still need a rest.
No doubt. I thought he would have been energized by his game last week and being able to take it into this game and see if it continues.

Ill get in early...

Changes v Freo:

In:
McGovern, Thompson, (Jacobs if fit)

Out:
CEY, whoever plays worse out of Mackay or Seed, (ROB if Jacobs fit)
Possibly Atkins - and possibly "managed" again - if he puts in another performance like his Essendon effort.

Did you see McGovern being "rested", to make way for Walker? Thought not. Henderson presumably not fit. Came down to a choice between Wigg & CEY. Turned out to be 3rd option, instead of 4th. I can live with that.

29th player used this year.

Still think Menzel, Hampton and several others would be ahead of him if they weren't injured (or returning from injury). Think I'll stand by that call - CEY still not in the top 30 players at the AFC. Correct then, correct now.

Only came in as a result of them deciding to rest Thompson. Still not even close to being in the best 22. Probaby won't play again this year. Think I'll stand by that as another correct call. Correct then, correct now.

McGovern is being rested, he's not playing SANFL. It's standard for young players across the board. He will be straight back in next week.

Selection committee get it right again.
I'd love to see Wigg play too but his time will come.

Surely they'd be interchangeable?
Yes & no.. it's more complex than that. What it boils down to is that Henderson, Mackay and Seedsman are fighting for the same position(s) on the field. The current ranking is:
1. Henderson
2. Mackay
3. Seedsman

So, if McGovern returns next week, that probably forces Seedsman out - not Mackay, as is the common assumption around here.

McGovern dropped this week, but not last?

It's back to dropping first year players for no reason again? Good signs!
Think McGovern was always getting a rest at some stage. Would have been last week except for Tex's injury.

If Walker doesn't come up this week, McGovern stays and perhaps misses the next one.

I'm loving our approach. No longer best 22, one week at a time. Now actually managing our squad with some brain power and keeping half an eye on September. Certainly beats the moronic full bore one dimensional approach we've always favoured.

If it wasn't for the D-Mac blindspot and VB's cameos, selection would be an A+ this year.

I reckon they had a plan to rest Gov in one of the last two games and even though he found some touch, still needed to rest him. He's pretty raw so I don't have a problem with it. Would have been nice if he could have got some momentum.

I'm also betting walker was good to go last week as well and sauce was fine this week. I'm glad to see obrien get a gig and it's good to get him a taste in a low key game.

I'm interested to see how thommo goes with a break but it didn't help him earlier in the year. A part of me would love to get him back in and performing okay just to see him out on a higher note than not finishing out what should be his last year. He doesn't deserve a spot given his form lately. CEY is a decent replacement for him and is in good form

Hasn't Henderson played more SANFL games this season than either of them?

No doubt. I thought he would have been energized by his game last week and being able to take it into this game and see if it continues.

I'd argue being one of only 2 key forwards and then the only one woukd have energised his mind. I expect it would ultimately have been counterproductive to his physical condition. Or at best, not beneficial

Good to see you're posting your usual anti-AFC trolling, overly-simplistic (and therefore completely pointless) analysis.

Kind of helps that we're actually in a position to rest players though - playing extremely weak teams at this time of the year, with a finals position already sewn up. When was the last time that happened, if ever?

Suspect we would have seen a lot more of it in the past, if we'd ever been in circumstances like this before. Most of the time we've either had a tough run home, a moderately long injury list, or been fighting just to make the finals in the first place. None of those circumstances are conducive to "resting" players.

It may seem that way but you need to have an emergency that can come in at a minutes notice. Last week Wigg was that player. If not him it would have been Milera who missed out on a game. Not our fault we have another Bye either, just have to play the ball as it lies.

Does anyone else think we should rest Brad crouch before finals ? Have him cheery ripe or will the week off before finals suffice ?

When is the last time he played 13 games straight without getting injured ?

He needs the opposite of resting at the moment. He's building nicely.

And if Wigg was in, we'd feel for Cam. One of those two had to be the hard luck story. CEY has probably been more consistently tearing it up in the SANFL I'd say.

Are you seriously trying to split the order in which Seed and Mackay returned to the side so that you can maintain Mackay is ahead on your imaginary list? You have no idea who's ahead of who, I doubt the coaches are keen to make a call. If you want to take the higher ground, then admit it's close right now and could easily go either way.

I'm sure you can think of some opportunities we've had if you try really, really hard.
